Thank you for this video!!! I went out for a ride with my son with our Hobie outfitter yesterday. And we thought about if it is possible to make a Sail kit our selves. I did not expect to find such a clear instruction with meassures and material advice. Many, many thanks. Maybe we will try this out next month. Best regards from Spain!
Look like it’s going to work out well. Did you design any sail shape to your sail sections so to have a draft? I just competed building the rigging to secure the mast to boat and now looking to design shape in the sail material. If you have any suggestions, will be greatly appreciated.. Thanks for your video.
Honestly I knew nothing about sail design, so I copied the exact dimension from Hobie's sail instead and it works very well. I imagine a sail for a boat would need to be more beefy than these ripstop fabric, you might need real sailing fabric. Good luck and please tag me when you complete so I can check out your sail as well, cheers!
Are you able to tack a zig zag pattern and therefore go upwind? I was thinking that you might need a centre board for this, but mybe your mirage ‘wings’ do the same job!

Did you build the sail? How did it turn out, please share a video of your adventure, cheers!

Yes the bottom of the kayak extended down so it acts like a center board so you can tack easily and go up wind.
i know that i am pretty late to this video but do you know the exact type of fabric you used?
Yes, I have the link in the Description of this video for you.
would this sail work on a Hobie mirage 2 person kayak ? if not, how much bigger would it need to be ? TIA
Yes, I have that kayak too and it worked just fine. You can scale it up by 1.5x if you like to go faster! Cheers!
