Excellent! I built a shooting board for the same purpose but mine leaves the wood flat and tilts the plane. Either way this is a great way to have perfect miters.

I've had the parts cut for an angled-surface shooting board of my own for a few months now, and will also build the donkey's ear feature--but I wanted to comment here on a possible insight I just had, watching your video.
One of the benefits/reasons for *having* a slanted/angled shooting surface is to do exactly what Veritas is doing by angling their blade. And by using their shooting plane (with the angled blade *AND* the angled shooting surface), you're essentially minimizing the value of the plane's angled blade..... Angling the shooting surface has more to offer a regular plane (non-angled), at least. What do you think--am I wrong?
I'm also curious about how you dialed in the 45's for the donkey's ear. I have my own thoughts about how to do it for mine, but would love to hear your insights/approach to how you made it 100% "perfect, since that's such a critical adjustment.
Beautiful work--and food for thought, at least!

Joel Winter great insight my friend I had to go out and put my plane in action to see what you mean..my conclusion is it’s still a Benefit having the 2 angled surfaces. The down hill slant of the board as well the angled mouth of the plane. It is minuscule ...If you remove the slant on the board it will engage less of the blade, with the downhill slant the blade makes contact to the work piece at the top of the blade and as the plane is pushed through the cut the blade is essentially rising. I wouldn’t say the value is minimized, rather it’s just not hurting anything. Weeeow a lot to think about on a Saturday morning.

Joel Winter as far as getting it perfect it was quite easy, i just added tiny shims to the bed support where needed and made my fence adjustable (knurled brass knobs).

Do It Newitt I forgot another benefit you get with the sloping ramp is that you’re using more of the blade-not just the bottom part. Wish I could afford one of those shooting planes and the track. Beautiful. Gotta make my own!

The miter is 45 degrees to the end, but is it 90 degrees square to the edge?
