    It's probably going to take 2 years for my work 365 license to update to include PY but so looking forward to more advanced charting capabilities. Saving all of these for future reference. I always love when you find a workaround for something MS tells you that it can't be done :)

      @@ajarivas72 I've been using Spreadsheet programs for 40+ years. I code in VBA, Python, C++, Java, and 8 other computer languages. I started wtih VisiCalc, then Lotus 1-2-3, and finally Excel. I've had a home licence for everything, and am part of the 365 Insider program and 365 Developer Program. The problem is that the file I create at home can't be used at work, which is where it's most needed. My work is very security sensitive which is why it takes so long to roll out updates.

    For me, there are two irritants.
    1. I'm on the Insider Programme, but not the Beta Channel. So I can't play around with it yet.
    2. Given that we don't know how much of the new functionality is going to be placed behind a paywall (thanks Microsoft!), it could prove to be an anti-climax. I remember that you said once that you and other MVPs lobbied Microsoft NOT to paywall Power Query/Power Pivot and won. Fancy picking up the challenge a second time Mynda?? We're rooting for you! 🥊

    So great to see examples of what you can do with it. Unfortunately I have to wait two months at least to start practicing. Future question: you make dynamic charts, for example in the title of a graph referencing to a cell. In Pivot/Excel you can do so to refer to the page field. But if you have multiple selections, you can not refer any more ("multiple fields"). Maybe Python can??

    • @MyOnlineTrainingHub
      @MyOnlineTrainingHub  11 місяців тому

      Great to hear you're excited to use Python in Excel, Bart! Yes, I'm sure Python can display multiple selections in the title. You can also do it with Excel using the TEXTJOIN function: www.myonlinetraininghub.com/excel-textjoin-function

    • @MyOnlineTrainingHub
      @MyOnlineTrainingHub  Рік тому

      You can't use any Python interactive charts by Plotly, Seaborn, Matplotlib.... yet.

  • @roywilson9580
    @roywilson9580 Рік тому

    Nice work-around. It is great that Excel has the ability to use the extended range of charts available in the Python packages but wouldn't it be easier to just build the full report in python and display it in a browser window? There are some pretty neat Python packages out there that allow you to do just that.

    • @MyOnlineTrainingHub
      @MyOnlineTrainingHub  Рік тому +4

      Sure, if you know Python. I find getting nicely formatted charts easier in Excel. The Python chart labels, legends, borders etc. are ugly and require coding to change them. Excel chart tools are point and click, so for Excel users who don't have Python skills and who need a chart that's already natively in Excel, it's easier to use them.

    • @roywilson9580
      @roywilson9580 Рік тому

      @@MyOnlineTrainingHub yes I totally agree, but would say that anyone who can manage Excel formulae and Power Query M or DAX for Power Pivot would not have a huge learning curve to start to obtain some pretty spectacular results, especially if using some of the amazing packages available to do a lot of the heavy lifting for you.
      I am finding that, even as a relative newcomer to python, using python and it's associated libraries is pretty intuitive. The hardest part of the process was getting set up, and even that was not overly difficult to work out with a little patience.
      That said, Excel will always have a special place in heart and I will get excited about every new development that refines the way it handles data.
      I look forward seeing more of your videos dealing with this topic in the future and getting to use this amazing new feature. It seems that though I have it there is a bug in my implementation that stops excel from recognising the =PY function along with several other people I can't wait for MS to iron this out!
