The theros mess kit is something you should have a factory reproduce for you too sell, its pretty awesome! I bet for the self-reliance outfitters im sure they would be interested in that kit with their alcohol stove. I love it, or you could even make alcohol stoves that would fit inside! Super cool!
I really like my serbian army mess kit. I have a bunch but this one hasnt been topped yet.I wish they made it in all stainless. I've considered the swiss kit with the trianga stove as well. These stoves are only going up in price so now is the time to get them.
Is it the type with enameled pan that the plastic canteen fits inside and two other plastic cups fit on top? If so, the idea is similar to the historic early 1900's Preston mess kit which is on my list to find some day. I can certainly see the benefits.
I have a Coleman kit in stainless steel (from about 1990). It doesn't have the fire/fuel module or windscreen, but it nests three cups and one pan, and I pack a little pop can alcohol stove in it, so it's somewhat similar. It had never occurred to me to bake with it or use it as a space heater, but now I want to try.
Just make sure there is plenty of open air flow due to carbon monoxide brother. Old canvas tents without bottoms, zippers, and air tight materials are safer in this situation. You definitely want a draft in this case
I use mine with my trangia stove and it is great! You just need to bank it down a bit as it gets Real hot. Also you can get a good replacement strap from At The Front with their WW2 Paratrooper strap.
That is cool. I have combined a Czech mess kit with a basic Trangia alcohol stove kit that can do the same thing. I didn't realize such a great idea was already out in the world, but I should have known :) Thanks for the video.
I used my Czech mess kit as a Dutch oven to bake a french bread of the 2 cups of flour size. Also used it to mix, knead(with my fist)and rise the dough. For baking, I put the dough in the lid and inverted the pot as the top. Baked the usual manner in the coals.
👍 Very interesting video. I agree an excellent cook kit. Would still be a good idea today if someone reproduced in stainless steel, titanium, or even anodized aluminum as non-anodized aluminum creates some health concerns.
@@honorableoutfitters Many companies are now reproducing older proven cook systems. An excellent example is the replica stainless steel Swiss military mess kit being marketed by Self Reliance Outfitters. But, as you say hopefully some day.
You could also use that bottle marine and said over some coals on the ground they don't have to be in the bucket. Much like a canteen burner. You could even lay a couple pieces of wire acrost to hold a smaller pan. It would have to be something like heavy duty wire. Unless you made a cross section potholder but, that's just an idea too. Truth is we already have stuff for that be a waste of something so historic
Not for a tightly closed tent. Think older tents that did not have an attached floor. I'll try to do a video demonstrating it this winter with a thermometer and CO sensor.
In an enclosed tent, absolutely and you would only want to use embers. If your tent is like a wheelen tent or a shelter half(not enclosed) it is like sleeping next to a fire.
A complete one would likely fetch $75-$100 when the market is good. Inflation/recession has everyone holding onto their money so the value of collectibles in general are sinking currently because the buyer just can't afford spending extra money so hard to say at this moment. A well laid out auction generally determines a good honest value.
Coffee is potentially good on any occasion with anything. Lol. That's why coffee completely rejuvenates and is sociologically compatible with hard work. Mormons are not allowed to have hot beverages. Cool history
Love your channel. The historical content and presentation style are always top shelf stuff!
Thank you kindly! I appreciate it.
I've never seen this mess kit setup. Very interesting, thanks for posting. You did a great job showing us this handy kit and explaining its history.
I appreciate it!

It's one of my dreams to do that, hopefully not just a pipe dream.
I'd buy one.

I like hunting for these kits.I prefer no plastic though.

Great information and a nice surprise never seen this kit before
Thanks, I am pretty proud and thankful to own one. It is very versatile and weighs nothing.

Thanks for the tips! I was keeping an eye out for a similar one on Ebay but my hope of that happening was pretty slim!
Sorry I missed it live. Your presentation was/is terrific, and as usual very informative. Thank you sir. Keep it up..
Thanks brother, that means a lot!
Nice kit. Good video. God bless. From Glenn CATT in Massachusetts.
I appreciate the support, God bless and have a great Sunday!
The Trangia is the modern version... interesting. Thank you.
I have a Trangia on my wish list to compare some day. Do you have one and do you like it?
@@honorableoutfitters yes I do like it. Had it many years and it has served me well. Take care.
😮😊thanks looks like a very nice kit for sure. Take care. 😊
Thank you my friend!

Thanks for the info, now I need to check out the Czech kit!
@@honorableoutfitters There is no windshield like in the Theroz but I bet one could be fashioned.

Some day hopefully. The capital to reproduce them is just the beginning of the difficulties of it. Finding a maker is the second.

That is brilliant and I am not sure why I hadn't considered that adaptation! Thanks brother!!!
I stumbled appon your videos and love then. Great job.
Thank you and I am glad you enjoy them. Happy New Year!
Love your channel, still say the bsa kit is #1
Thanks! I also generally prefer it and mine sees the most use out of all the other kits, lol
Very cool, thanks for sharing!
Thanks brother!
I would like to see this kit in action! And I'd like to see the space heater idea as well please!
ua-cam.com/video/0BvXuEMjwg4/v-deo.html
I still need to do one with it as a "space heater"
Sweet! I look forward to seeing that when you post it! Thank you for the link to the video! You're the best bro!
I know first hand that This man likes his coffee crunchy. 😂
lol! Just a bit on the dark side! Happy Thanksgiving my friend!
Charcoal: space heater? What about carbon monoxide? Otherwise, this seems to be a smart and versatile kit.

Great stuff brother love your passion! It’s inspiring!
You sir are an inspiration and I appreciate your support.
@@honorableoutfitters thanks brother
As far as a space heater, would carbon monoxide be a problem? Otherwise, nice.

Coffee is the only reason I get up in the morning 🌄 hahaha 🤣 jk .. or am i !
It's a pretty good motivator for sure!
Very nice video I never heard of these
It is so different that I was immediately drawn to it when I first saw it 1.5 years ago!
Great video. What do you think the value of a Theroz mess kit is.

Thanks for the information. I actually just picked one up. But it’s missing the spoon and coffee cup
That's cool and they are hard to come by! I am missing the cup too unfortunately :/ I hope you enjoy yours as much as I like mine!
Hi. Where can I buy this kit or something similar?
Trangia is the closest I have found friend. I have a dream of getting the Theroz reproduced but it is going to take awhile. amzn.to/3KXqn45
Maybe Trangia based their design on that system.
I have wondered the same thing! So many similarities...
Go to 6:55 to see the mess kit.
How'd you like the kit? It is still my favorite. Cheers and thanks for the support!
This is a cool channel
Thank you, I greatly appreciate it friend!
That's neat
Have u ever heard of Preston mess kit
I have and it is on my wish list...I had one in my sights but could not justify the $400 that the owner wanted. I hope to get one some day. :)
Got a swiss army knife no need for the grabber
There you go! Knowledge is the most powerful tool and will go far to fixing things, going without, or adapting! The SAK is so versatile!

Seven minutes for the reveal.
What is your favorite cook kit?
@@honorableoutfitters Bcb crusader mk1 1 mug with mk2 burner and dragon fuel. Pocket rocket gas if I remember to buy gas canister
More like the worst mess kit ever made. This is a flaming piece of trash.
