- Whilst Pamela Colman Smith is most famous for her illustrations in the Rider Waite Smith Tarot deck, she was also a prodigious stage and costume designer, folklorist, poet, illustrator and women’s rights activist, being a figure in the suffragette movement. She is credited as the first person to publish Jamaican Patwa (Patois) in written form, as well as illustrating the first known depictions of the Jamaican (African & Caribbean) trickster figure 🕷Anansi🕷 the spider man. This video is a brief overview of the book "Pamela Colman Smith, the untold story", published by US Games Systems. Pamela (Pixie) had a very full and interesting life, in this video we explore her time in Jamaica, the influence it had on her and also look at her work on the famous tarot deck. 🇯🇲 🇬🇧 🇺🇸

Incredible video and glimpse into the life of Pamela Colman Smith😍 Thanks for sharing this, Wayne!
My pleasure!
I wish someone would make a movie 🎬 🎞 🎥 about Ms. Pamela Colman Smith
@usgamessystems sounds like an opportunity
Wow. thank you so much for this.
Thank you for watching
Wayne, thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I am, and have been for decades, affectionately known as Pixie. Wait for it... the story of Anansi the storyteller spider spirit has been deep in my conscious mind ever since my mother Nancy, visited Jamaica. Today, a spider was on the door of the "buggy" I borrow to drive around town. If that's not weird enough, I do have sinestesia, also go into a trance while listening to music and draw artwork, write channeled messages, and was a student of theater. My father is a Smith. The Spirit in me litetally did ahappy dance with such excitement while listening to this. Thank you.
P.S. When I walked into this place I was visiting today, the first thing I said to anyone was, "How's it going, Pam?" (An employee here)
Beautiful story, thank you for sharing it with us. Continued blessings
I read her mother was Jamaican in several accounts.
Awesome!
Convinced me to buy the book. Intriguing.
There's still so much left to be said about the true history of things ( by the tellers of history), and the real lives of people behind the things we enjoy. I'm happy you found value in this.
@@rodneyillustrations 🙏🏾Congrats on the tarot deck.
Thank you for sharing this! I knew the element of her biracial identity, however had no clue that she lived in Jamaica and told Anancy stories. I got pulled to start working with her deck. I used to have Rider-Waite deck when I was younger and have used other decks and kind of avoided the Rider-Waite but have been feeling the call to work with a more traditional deck and decided to honour her legacy by selecting the Smith-Waite. Love that I found your video!
Respect
