I have been working on unique surfaces lately and framing with different sorts of non-traditional methods. Adds a sheen without making the surface super shiny. You can even layer it like hot wax.

If you could PLEASE start off each of your videos with 1: Today I am painting on a gesso treated canvas/woodpanel etc and 2: I am using XXX type paint. Then start off. This would bring your videos up to a new level and would be rally helpful. Thanks!

Generally speaking you don't want to use cold wax with acrylic, as the cold wax has turpentine, which will not mix with the acrylic paint. However, if you want to use the wax as a finish/varnish once the acrylic paint is dried, then you can use the wax, but only in that capacity. If you are using oil paint, you can use the wax any way you want.

It was once a beautiful, large painting, oil and cold wax, that sold for 20K in the 80's. It went for $0400.00 due to the repair work that was needed.
I wonder, do you need to use some kind of varnish again over this cold wax finishing layer? I'm worried it will start to melt if temperatures are warm, or is this not a case?

Wondering what the ratio of thinner to oil paint you poured? Is your intent to dull the saturation and achieve a chalk finish? How does the oil paint bind when using this technique and are you restricted to fewer layers because of it?

I may have missed this info but I'll ask anyway: Oil painting almost never really dry. If you apply cold wax like you did with a roll of towel paper, wouldn't that alter the paint and become a mess?

Ich selber hasse bis jetzt alle Acrylfirnisse die ich ausprobiert habe. (schade ums Geld) Bin zur Zeit auf der Suche nach Kaltwachs…in Deutschland nicht so einfach. Also selbermachen…lieber nicht…habe schon so viel Zeug in meiner Wohnung rumfliegen. Ich nehme auch schonmal einfach Acrylbinder mit oder ohne Wasser. Heute werde ich ein Bild mit Senellierbinder (leicht stationiert) versiegeln…mal schauen wie es wird. LG
Hi Nick. Can coldwax be used on top of acrylic? Does it protect the paintings from fading as opposed to sealing it with a matte varnishes? Also, i noticed the white paint u mixed was more liquidity. Oil paint comes thin also? Thank you so much for giving us ur time.
This video was quite disappointing. Not because it wasn't good within it's limitations, it just left so much information out about the use of cold wax. So many unanswered questions in the comments that should have been addressed in the video.

Can you use cold wax on a finished acrylic painting as you just demonstrated on an oil,painting?

You can't mix it with acrylic. You can paint over acrylic with cold wax and oil, or put a sheen of cold wax as a finish on acrylic.

How long do you wait to apply it on your oil painting after it's done? I know that varnishing needs a very long wait with oils.
