I always thought that Manny’s parents were killed off screen, and that in the first Ice Age movie he was trying to find the other Mammoths, but then finds out that all the Mammoths were killed by hunters, and that he was the last one. Until Ice Age 2 revealed that Manny wasn’t the last Mammoth and the race were still alive, it’s just that the other Mammoths lived in the other side of the Ice wall, and Manny & Ellie were left behind.

Glad to see you reviewed the second "Ice Age" film, which I also thought was alright. Sure they were just predators, but it would've been nice to mention them, like maybe for how they were used in the action scenes. As for your big Classic Review, I may not have voted for it, but I cannot wait to revisit that pineapple under the sea.
The franchise should’ve ended at 3. On a unrelated note I think Shrek & Toy Story should’ve stopped at 3 as well. Hopefully the new Ice Age cartoon & upcoming Shrek reboot aren’t garbage.
Someone Up stairs Everything I said is debatable sense it is my opinion after all. I haven’t seen Toy Story 4 yet but from the trailers and how I feel about the 3rd film I felt like Toy Story had already ran its course and told the story it wanted to. I think the movie didn’t do as well as Disney and Pixar had hoped either. I’m not saying the movie flopped but compared to Toy Story 1-3 the 4th one didn’t make as money as it’s predecessors.
I remember seeing the sequel in theaters after how much I loved the first film and it was way better than I thought. OK, it lacked something that the previous offered, but I did like some of the humor and the backstory of Ellie and the two possums brought emotion and weight towards the end of the film. The 3rd one had a nice premise and some of the best visuals next to the fourth, but predictable execution and while Continental Drift had some entertaining moments particularly the climax, an interesting villain voiced by Peter Dinklage (Tyrion himself) and some funny moments, the story lacked some of the wit and heart of the first. Collision Course... BY JESUS DID IT SUCK! All the beautiful visuals, nice voice work and a good music score from John Debney wasted on desperate and unfunny humor, a story that recycles some of the previous movies, and characters that were once tolerable in the previous movies now grating especially the new characters that served no purpose AT ALL!
Wow animat this is the second time you've reviewed a winter themed movie a big coincidence if you think about it.I also enjoyed this review by the way!
Why didn't Fast Tony ever come back? I liked his voice and he had funny lines. Plus, he's an armadillo. They're awesome. Not as much as pangolins, but still awesome.
One of my biggest flaws with the Ice Age sequels is the lack of David Newman’s themes, which is one of the reasons they failed to live up to the original 2002 film.
It always bothered me how the Sequels basically have 0 Thematic cohesion when it comes to the music, and they didn't really bring back any of David Newman's music from the 1st film, yet they brought back the Music from the 2nd film for the later sequels. That always bugged me that the 1st film's score was never referenced or brought back again. Don't get me wrong, I really like John Powell's music, but David Newman's score feels a whole lot more like an Ice Age movie imo.
Nah! The sequel made the right choice in bringing in John Powell. Just listening to his score “Return of the Mammoths” is proof enough. You’re just too nostalgic for the first film.
@@hunterolaughlin No, *I’m not.* I’m not saying John Powell’s score is bad. In fact, I actually LOVE his scores that he did for Ice Age 2-4. It’s just that I’m not a fan of when studios or filmmakers replace composers for sequels to one of their original movies; There’s no proper thematic continuity, unless if count the reprisal of Newman’s baby theme at the end of Collision Course.
He definitely forgot to mention Cretaceous and Maelstrom the Villains from this film since I considered them my favorite characters from the film series
#8:00 realistically, Fast Tony didn’t make an appearance in any future installments due to his character simply not fitting in the story, not to mention his va, Jay Leno not being able to reprise the role due to scheduling conflicts
No hating on the 2nd film, it's amazing and my FAVORITE Ice Age, the 1st movie is a classic, the 3rd movie is beautifully good, the 4th film is meh, but the 5th one not so good
I actually kinda like this sequel. The story is a little better, when they're setting up that Manny may be the very last mammut. And I like how this new character Ellie is a very smart girl and her little story where she believes she's an opossum is interesting. And she is a great female addition to the team. And I like how Scrat actually come to some use for the story in the end and wasn't just a masqot. And the animation is a little better, you can almost feel the beautiful sunlight here. And the music score here is a BIG improvement since the first movie! ( I mean it's John Powell! ) The first have only a few memorable scores, while in this movie pretty much all the scores are memorable. And I also like how the interaction between the characters feels a little bit nicer this time, which makes sense since they know each other better now. So overall I think this is a pretty entertaining sequel! Perhaps even better than the first one! :)

The most requested movie of all time for AniMat's Classic Reviews is "The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie". We all know it is that one. Damnit! I wanted him to do "Hoodwinked!". But I'm glad that the most requested movie for this section of the channel is at least a good movie. Not to mention, it's very fitting to review it in 2019, considering that this year was the show's 20th anniversary.
@@shady9044 Haven't seen "Hoodwinked!", so I can't tell you if it's good or bad. Although it does look awful, I like the concept and there may be a reason why it's so praised. I was just happy to see that Mat wouldn't have to review a bad movie in general for his 100k Classic Review special. Maybe I should have cleared that (and even then, I don't know if I have cleared it here).
You didn’t mention the two sea monsters as the main villains at all... almost like they weren’t characters at all... they were still the best part of the movie for me
It s really bumming that this movie was working with two plotlines at once. It struggled between the main cast trying to escape the meltdown event and Manny having a love interest in Ellie, and because of that, this movie's story felt disjointed and unfocused on what it was trying to be.
the melt down was my introduction to the ice age frachise and I did not even need to watch the previous film to know the characters and I loved the meltdown
I can't wait for the review on The Spongebob Movie next month! ( I actually voted for that movie) Personally, my favorite ice age films from best to worst are: 1. *Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaur* Consensus: This movie was one of my childhood favorites so it does have a little bit of an unfair advantage. I love almost everything about this movie. The animation is fantastic, the dynamic between Scrat and Scratette is hilarious, the scene where the characters inhale helium is my favorite scene in the movie, and Buck is one of if not the best characters in the Ice age franchise. Even if the quality of the humor and story can sometimes be a little bit of a mixed bag and the fact that it may not be everybody's favorite installment, I still love this movie and I will definitely consider it my favorite. 2. *Ice Age* Consensus: It's the one that started it all and it started the franchise off well. It has almost all the things I like about Ice Age: DOFD, but what is keeping it back is that the animation has that early 2000's kind of cheapness and a little bit of the story can be predictable. But with the other stuff like the characters, humor, and the rest of the story, it is all great. 3. *Ice Age: Continental Drift* Consensus: To me, this movie was just okay. The story was a little predictable, it contains too many characters in which some we do not care about, the humor was average, some elements from the movie were either done before or just plain stupid and it clearly shows that it was during the production of this installment where the people at Blue Sky started to get bored of these Ice Age movies and just came with random ideas( hence all the issues I stated before). Luckily, the animation was creative and nice-looking, Scrat was funny, some of the characters were good, and certain ideas did have great execution. 4. *Ice Age: The Meltdown* Consensus: I only saw this movie once and from what I saw, almost everything about this movie except for the animation and maybe the humor was really boring. 5. *Ice Age: Collision Course* Consensus: THIS MOVIE SUCKS! The story was awful, the jokes were bad, The animation was unoriginal and weird(especially by Ice Age standards), all the characters are either bland, annoying, or pointless, the ideas that this movie has came straight from Blue Sky's butt, and the movie was so bad, it even ruined Buck! I wish this movie never existed!
This is the only Ice Age sequel I own on DVD and I don't have any regrets about having it. This is a good movie and is one of only three Blue Sky movies I actually like. (The others are Ice Age 1 and The Peanuts Movie)
8:00 "You know an Ice Age character is bad when they don't get a chance to appear in any other sequels afterwards." Then would you care to expalin why the fridge we have CRASH AND EDDIE in every single follow-up to this?!! On the other hand, this case certainly does pertain to Buck the weasel-so much so that I heard that he got his own spinoff series on Disney+. I'm not so sure we need it, but hey, I'll take that over another sequel movie any day, because I think Buck is the only character in this franchise who can hold his own at this point.
I don't mind the first 3 Ice Age films. Seeing that the last 2 got the worst reception, I say it should've stayed as a trilogy. I mean when you see the end of the 3rd one, it gave the impression that it was gonna end on a high note.
I enjoyed the Film The Story Is Very good the whole fludd thing And Manny’s Backstory about him and his first family that got killed by humans was interesting characters back again on their new adventures about the ice melting them traveling together to the other side of The Valley to survive a dangerous fludd And Manny struggling thinking him as the last mammoth but on the way meeting Ellie a female mammoth thinks she’s a possum along with her brothers join them on the travel they have good banther with each other
@@cintronproductions9430 because, ice age has not been on the video game industry in a long time, so 3 years later, they put it back in The video game world with ICE AGE: scrat's nutty adventure.
Here is the thing with this movie. The story is definitely meh but I like this movie around as much as the first movie because of really good animation and characters are for the most part really likable. But the main reason I really like this movie is because A: Scrat and how BlueSky made him a bit more important but not too major to make him the star on top of lots of scenes with him. And B: this movie has some of my favorite scenes in the series. I mean the piranha and heaven Scrat scenes are the best two scenes in the series
Yeah, I do not like Crash and Eddie either. They're easily the most annoying characters in the whole franchise. As for the question "are you ready, kids?", here's my answer: "AYE-AYE, CAPTAIN!" Looks like we're going back to Bikini Bottom, guys! The Spongebob SquarePants Movie is next!
I actually watched this sequel a lot more than the first movie, meaning that I enjoyed 2 more than 1 as a kid. But then again, comparing thoughts on the same movie as a critic and as a small child can be very different, since the former pay attention to every single detail and weigh all pros and cons, while the latter just enjoy the movie and don't mind anything at all.
It's ironic for the story, animation and characters were given the same score as Smurfs The Lost Village, but that got a 5/10 while this got a 6/10, anyone sees something off

Pretty Good Sequel way better than 4 and 5.
The franchise should’ve ended at 3.
On a unrelated note I think Shrek & Toy Story should’ve stopped at 3 as well.
Hopefully the new Ice Age cartoon & upcoming Shrek reboot aren’t garbage.
Grookey: I agree but toy story 4 was another great continuation to the franchise and what would be woody’s ending so that could be debatable
I agree I did like 4 but I hate 5
The Spongebob Squarepants Movie is next!
Aspen Karch, yes because that movie took my childhood, but in a good way
He'll totally give it the Seal of Approval.

I'm happy with this, even if i voted for Secret of NIMH.

Regardless of if he likes this film or not I’ll always consider the first 3 Ice Age films as good movies.
Same here.
Same.
You have one more film of ice age that is called Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs
7:33 Your text actually fits Crash‘s/Eddy‘s lips, that’s kinda hilarious. 😂
Wow animat this is the second time you've reviewed a winter themed movie a big coincidence if you think about it.I also enjoyed this review by the way!
oh yeah spongebob movie. I forgot about that. I'd love to see a review on that. I put that as a bonus on the top 5 lists which is now a top 6
"You know an Ice Age character is bad when the don't return for sequels"
Counterpoint: Buck wasn't in Continental Drift.
Why didn't Fast Tony ever come back? I liked his voice and he had funny lines. Plus, he's an armadillo. They're awesome. Not as much as pangolins, but still awesome.
Buck was in Collision Course thou.
He had a small cameo in the first 5 minutes.
They should make the baby reappear
Dude, you forgot to mention the antagonists, Cretacious and Maelstrom. They were even more of a threat than Soto.
I like the movie when I was young
I consider this to be one of the most underrated animated sequels
Story 7/10
Animation 8/10

When are we going to have another review out of the Animation Hat? It had been more than 5 months now and we have only had Patreon requests.
John Powell is still a good composer
I’m still wondering when the Ice Age 3 review is coming
There's only Ice Age 3 to review, and this franchise is done forever.
When I mean last, I mean the last "Classic" Review of Ice Age
Wait a minute 4, 8, and 4 would be a 5/10
Eh just go with it
What do you not like about this movie?
Maybe it escaped from it by a hair with some good characters and upgraded animation
@@swinger9374He's just simply stating the stats Animat used in the review
The Spongebob Movie, eh? I hope not that Spongebob review gets taking down by Viacom and UA-cam.
I wish you good luck, Animat.
Ugh, I know, right? Viacom is vicious when it comes to copyright.
@@peytonmichael9898 At this point, I don't know what ISN'T vicious when it comes to copyright.
@@cintronproductions9430 True. You got a point there.
The highlight of Ice Age 2 for me is the phenomenal score by John Powell.
Manny was the father not the son.
YES! "The Spongebob Movie" won! That was my pick.
Mine too
@@maxmantell5009 Me three!
I liked the first three Ice Age movies the best. I thought 2 was also alright and found it a bit underrated now imo.
Kids: Aye Aye AniMat! 15:18
AniMat: I can't hear you.
Kids: Aye Aye Animat!
So long Blue Sky Studios 😔
No hating on the 2nd film, it's amazing and my FAVORITE Ice Age, the 1st movie is a classic, the 3rd movie is beautifully good, the 4th film is meh, but the 5th one not so good
I agree.
I voted for The Spongebob Squarepants Movie to be the next review.
I've never been so happy.

Ice Age 1: Manny, Sid, and Diego send a baby home.
Ice Age 2: The Meltdown: The ice is melting and the herd tries to escape.
Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs: An underground world of dinosaurs is revealed by Scrat, and some of the herd gets trapped and have to escape with the help of a new friend.
Ice Age 4: Continental Drift: Ice Age 2, but with Pirates.
Ice Age 5: Collision Course: An asteroid is sent to Earth because of Scrat's acorn.

So it's Spongebob that won the 100,000 subscriber challenge.
Hoodwinked is a great movie, besides the asinine animation
Are you ready kids?

The Spongebob SquarePants Movie is next, I voted for that one
the melt down was my introduction to the ice age frachise and I did not even need to watch the previous film to know the characters and I loved the meltdown
I can't wait for the review on The Spongebob Movie next month! ( I actually voted for that movie)
Personally, my favorite ice age films from best to worst are:
1. *Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaur*
Consensus: This movie was one of my childhood favorites so it does have a little bit of an unfair advantage.
2. *Ice Age*
Consensus: It's the one that started it all and it started the franchise off well. It has almost all the things I like about Ice Age: DOFD, but what is keeping it back is that the animation has that early 2000's kind of cheapness and a little bit of the story can be predictable. But with the other stuff like the characters, humor, and the rest of the story, it is all great.
3. *Ice Age: Continental Drift*
Consensus: To me, this movie was just okay.
4. *Ice Age: The Meltdown*
Consensus: I only saw this movie once and from what I saw, almost everything about this movie except for the animation and maybe the humor was really boring.
5. *Ice Age: Collision Course*
Consensus: THIS MOVIE SUCKS!
Give the movie this, it’s got some pretty intimidating villains in the two dinosaurs Cretaceous and Maelstrom.
My prediction for the SpongeBob Squarepants review
Story-8/10
Animation-8/10
Characters-9/10
Overall-8/10
Why didn’t you do a review on the 3rd. You did all of them except my favourite
No Way Spongebob Squarepants Movie
I know it is exciting
8:00 "You know an Ice Age character is bad when they don't get a chance to appear in any other sequels afterwards." Then would you care to expalin why the fridge we have CRASH AND EDDIE in every single follow-up to this?!!
On the other hand, this case certainly does pertain to Buck the weasel-so much so that I heard that he got his own spinoff series on Disney+. I'm not so sure we need it, but hey, I'll take that over another sequel movie any day, because I think Buck is the only character in this franchise who can hold his own at this point.
I actually like Fast Tony cuz he's an armadillo and he has a funny voice and wait.... Buck is getting his own show!?!?
@@cintronproductions9430 That's something I at least heard from a friend. I don't know if it's actually true or not.
I don't mind the first 3 Ice Age films. Seeing that the last 2 got the worst reception, I say it should've stayed as a trilogy. I mean when you see the end of the 3rd one, it gave the impression that it was gonna end on a high note.
15:18 AYE AYE CAPTAIN ANIMAT!!!
I did Really hoped that Cat’s don’t dance won because that movie is so underrated but spongebob is good to
AniMat forgot to mention the shark/crocodile/fish things that are the villains of the movie and that honestly doesn’t surprise me.

Well, it sure did take you long enough you freakin slacker. (Just kidding)

The Story Is Very good the whole fludd thing And Manny’s Backstory about him and his first family that got killed by humans was interesting
characters back again on their new adventures about the ice melting them traveling together to the other side of The Valley to survive a dangerous fludd And Manny struggling thinking him as the last mammoth but on the way meeting Ellie a female mammoth thinks she’s a possum along with her brothers join them on the travel they have good banther with each other

Can you review ice age dawn if the dinosaurs
He should've had ocean man play in the background at the end.
speaking of which, Did you know that A video game of ice age was released this October Called Ice age: scrat's nutty adventure? it's out now!
I don't understand why this game came out years after this franchise stopped being relevant.
The Spongebob SquarePants Movie is next!
where the heck is dawn of the dinosaurs review?
I remember this being a pretty decent movie, I haven't seen it for like a decade though.
It's ironic for the story, animation and characters were given the same score as Smurfs The Lost Village, but that got a 5/10 while this got a 6/10, anyone sees something off
Let’s see
4+8+4 is 16
Divide that by 3 and you get 5.3
5.3 is closer to a 5 than to a 6
