Denis Villeneuve is undoubtedly among the very best modern movie directors currently working. After this film, he directed four consecutive science fiction movies, all of which were kind of brilliant in their own ways. Arrival (2016,) Blade Runner 2049 (2017,) Dune (2021,) and most recently Dune Part 2 (2024.) As far as his more intense dramatic films, this movie is the top of that list closely followed by Prisoners, released in 2013. You can't go wrong viewing any of his movies. They're all well photographed, well acted, polished and intense. Great reaction guys!
My man in the white hoodie keeps calling the woman cop dumb but every single take he had while talking over the movie was wrong. She’s not dumb. They kept her in the dark on purpose to take advantage of her position so they can perform illegal activity.
@@feelthebern7662 What they did here is what the CIA/FBI did to spy on the Trump team the first time around. If I have to hear,"You volunteered one more time...". Bruh she volunteered to be on a legal task force, which is what they are forcing her to attest to. She didn't volunteer to run cover for and supply support for a hit by the Colombian Cartel. 🤦😂
Del Toro is just absolutely killin it in everything he does! Come after a man's family, there's no limits how for a man will go. You guys should check out "A Perfect Day" with Del Toro and Tim Robbins, it's about a team of aid workers in Bosnia at the end of the Bosnian war, a masterpiece in my opinion.
I saw an interview where del Toro was worried that the protagonist basically changes for the third act and the audience wouldn't be on board. In reality it was absolutely perfect for this movie because the way they slowly built his character is what made the change in protagonist so good. for all intents and purpose it's exactly what the audience wanted. This movie is genius.
I watch reactions of different reactors and channels all the time, and there’s usually a lead reactor and the others pitch in as supporting reactors, now what happened in this one seemed to be a clash of two alpha reactors, almost arguing with each other during it. Also there’s a fine balance of the reaction and movie scenes, too much talking is distracting as well. The dude with the hat should be in sync with Syntell, not compete with him.
lol it’s ironic how Unc with the white hoodie felt about Kate being annoying, not following the plot, and unable to read the room. When he was his option of Kate the entire reaction. Even on a first watch, how can you miss so many things, jump to conclusions, miss the plot and twist in it?
A great Benicio Del Toro film to check out is THE HUNTED (2003). It co-stars Tommy Lee Jones, directed by William Freidkin. It features Filipino martial arts knife/empty-hand fighting.
If your takeaway is to side with Alejandro and Matt and to find Kate annoying, you are missing the point of the whole movie. It spells it out to you very clearly. They work for another cartel. The ending literally shows how their actions made and will never make any difference to the people of Juarez and the rest of Mexico because they don't give a shit about them. The American government would never actually stop the drug trade because they want to control it. They profit off of it. The worst part of it is that the movie decided to trust the viewer to understand the message, but some people still completely miss it.
I side with Alejandro, since it seems plausible he could command the trade in conjunction with the CIA, which is better than the current way. Kate wasn’t annoying, she just made a really dumb mistake because she thought she knew what the game was. Never found her annoying though.
Yeah on a scale of 10/10 this movie is an 20/10, outpacing everything & everyone. And that dinner scene wasn't a f**k Hollywood ending, this was a Real/Thug life ending... The small details like the sign of the wife at the mention of Alejandro's daughter, she knew her family was done... And the the last scene w/ Alejandro & Kate was just the cherry on top...
Just a suggestion, but you should watch some documentaries on the Italian mafia. They terrorized Italy for years, killing anyone who stood in their way and innocents suffered because of it. If I'm not mistaken, smurf/smurfing originated from when the government restricted the purchase of pseudoephedrine, which is used to cook methamphetamine. As an over the counter decongestant, you used to be able to buy as much as you wanted right from a drugstore or supermarket or wholesaler. That is until home cooking meth became a problem, and the government place limits on how much you could buy at a time. So, cooks would hire dozens of random people (their smurfs) to go from store to store and buy the maximum they could, then pool it all together to cook up a reasonably large batch of meth. Just like smurfs going out into the woods to forage for smurfberries. Its use later morphed into any general crowdsourcing of small, but legal transactions to circumvent illegal large transactions. Please someone correct me if this is inaccurate.
I had watched this movie back in December on Tubi before 2025 But damn that opening scene and the cops died in that shed explosion had caught me off guard and the ambush at the border too
Though fictional, this movie is probably the most realistic depiction of the war on drugs ever made. There are no rules as every law can be sidestepped by using black sites and military bases, and every engagement with the cartels becomes an extremely violent, mini war zone. Meanwhile, they bring in legitimate, moral cops to sign off on everything they do to appear legal, to keep their funding flowing through the Pentagon.
thank you for pointing out how weird it is that someone sleeps on their stomach face down in the pillow. that has always bothered me in this great movie
Excellent film. You're right when he asked her if she had any kids. It would be extra dangerous if she did but also if she had a family, the cartel would see that as a opportunity to put them on the payroll and to make them corrupt.

Kate was a great agent- but a terrible soldier. Benicio had Denis remove like 90% of his dialogue to make his character enigmatic. And they had to change the perspective on the movie. Because this was Alejandro's story - but after removing his dialogue - they had to tell the story through Kate's eyes.
ppl always mistake the interigation scene. no s*x is involved but a lot of pain. the finger in the ear with the cop-scene shows the knowledge of how good he is at making pain
Jeffrey Donovan character is actually based on. A real person Mike vining he was a delta force operator who did protection details after. He looked nerdy but was a extreme bad ass from what I read
Alejandro asked for the illegals from the Nogales sector, that's the border crossing near Tuscon, Arizona. The border crossing scene was in Juarez-El Paso, Texas. Kate's partner failed her from the opening scene and throughout the movie. 1) When sweeping a room, never go alone. One goes high the other goes low. He abandoned her. 2) She had to send him from the house to keep him from puking in the crime scene. 3) When she went to check on her puking partner she was almost killed in the explosion. 3) He set her up with his good friend, her attempted murderer. 4) He abandoned her in the tunnel, knowing she had a defective weapon. 5) He left the tunnel without knowing where his partner was, leading her to get shot. But worst of all, he made her buy the first round at the Cowboy bar! Worst partner in history!!
Jeffery Donovan character's look is supposedly based on Mike Vining, one of the founders of Delta Force. Google him and see what a goofy looking dude he is, and then realize this guy who lookd like a 8th grade science teacher was one of the deadliest operators in US military history.
What really ticked me off was Kate turned on Alejandro the day after he saved her from the bad cop. Also when the two starred in the Wolfman she "loved" him but killed him. Not cool.
Alejandro (Benicio) seems to be a lawyer who was in the military. After the events that took his family, his muscle memory lead him to be a hired gun. Yall should look up El Marino Loko. Real Mexican Marine who hunts Cartel members. Part of me thinks Alejandro is partly based on that man.

How a out checking out all the actors in the movie and where we recognize them from BEFORE we watch the film so that we can stay engrossed in the actual film we're supposed to be reacting to, it's annoying & distracting. Thank you if you take this as constructive criticism and still appreciate the reaction to this epic film.🙏✌
When you guys have time check out Landman written by the guy who wrote Sicario. Sicario 1 gets 10/10 stars Sicario 2 gets 5/10 stars.
