Everything in this movie actually happened, It was based on an interview Alex Haley ( The Author of Roots ) did with Malcolm X . Alex Haley wrote " The Autobiography of Malcolm X," As told by Malcolm X . The book was released posthumously on 10/29/65. By the way, Denzel was nominated for an Oscar, Unfortunately he lost to Al Pacino who won for Best Actor that year. I enjoyed your review. 😊

Al Pacino won that year because he NEVER got an Oscar and was way way way overdue. It was a tragedy Denzel didn't win. Hollywood politics. I was shocked the academy never gave Pacino an award until that year as it wasn't Pacino's best film.
One of the biggest crimes is that Denzel did not win the Oscar for this role… The role he should have won rather than the role of a corrupt cop & gangster.
Pacino should have won for "The Godfather Part Ii" he lost because they gave a sort of honorary oscar to Art Carney so basically that started the whole chain reaction, Pacino won an honorary Oscar when Denzel should have won for "X" but because he didnt win they gave him the Oscar in 2002 when it should have been Russel Crowe for "A Beautiful Mind"...

Holy sht. Can't believe you reacted to Malcolm X. I've been recommending it for reactions for years and no one ever responds let alone actually reacts to it. I always cite it as THE best acting performance I've ever seen in Denzel's performance depicting Malcolm. Not just one of the best acting performances I've seen but THE literal best acting performances I've ever witnessed. He becomes Malcolm and Denzel disappears. The personal journey that Malcolm goes through is also incredible. Not to mention the historical importance of Malcolm X. So I don't know why the film hasn't become a classic and an iconic must-react to because it deserves both accolades. Maybe it's because some feel he's too controversial or divisive a figure. But that's blatantly ignoring the last part of his journey where he embraced all races. And even gave his life in part for his new beliefs. Thanks for the reaction. I hope others on your channel and other channels react to it as well.
You are so right!!! One of the marks of a great actor is to take on the role of a person that you have no physical resemblance to, and make you BELIEVE that he is that person!!! Outstanding performance!!!
Aaron that job loss was just a speed bump on your way to something better, I know it’s hard and the uncertainty about what’s next is the worst but know that it’s temporary. You have something special coming your way. Both of you guys do!
Obviously, Denzel is phenomenal, but can we also talk about the queen, Miss Angela Bassett? Whew. Also, FYI, the eulogy at the end is Ossie Davis' actual eulogy from Malcolm's funeral. I always loved that they included that.
People always say Do The Right Thing is Spike Lee's best film. But this is probably his best for me because he poured his heart and soul into the film even when it was in danger of being canceled. Lee had to reach out to members of the African American community to help him get the film finished.
Major respect for reacting to this movie. A lot of these UA-camrs / content creators are fast to react to these comic book movies, but they shy away from stepping outside their comfort zone and react to these dramatic and Powerful movies like Malcolm x. I was 6 years old when this movie came out in 1992 and even at my young age, I watched this movie countless times throughout my childhood and I love this movie. Denzel Washington had a incredible performance playing Malcolm X and he should have won the Oscar for best actor and you can't forget about the great Angela bassett. I feel that a lot of people appreciate y'all for being one of if not the first content creators especially on UA-cam to react to such a dramatic and Powerful movie. Maybe, just maybe other content creators won't be afraid to watch and react to Malcolm X.
I whole heartedly agree. I understand the comic book, animated and other blockbuster movies are whats popular, but films like this deserve the same amount of notoriety.
I agree. I remember reading the Autobiography of Malcom X in high school and seeing the film some years later. He was such a magnetic and brilliant person and Denzel's portrayal is spot on, couldn't take my eyes off of him the whole movie.
When I was about 21 years old, I was walking around where Malcom died. As I approached the subway stairs, I see this older white man walking up the stairs. He looks at me & says “hey, do you know where the Audubon Ballroom is?”, I told him that I wasn’t sure, but if it was what I think he’s referring to, it was across the street. So he asks me if I mind taking him. I was in a rush because I was up to no good, but considering that he was very old, & walking with a cane, I obliged. I held his arm to help him walk & he starts telling me how he hasn’t been here since the 60’s & how different the neighborhood looks. We finally get in front of the building & he stands there & starts to tear up. Me, not fully understanding what’s going on, ask him, is everything ok? I’m thinking it’s because the building wasn’t the Audubon Ballroom anymore or something. He tells me yes, that he’s just getting emotional. He then turns to me & says, “you know, this is where Malcolm X was murdered”. I look in disbelief & say “the Malcolm X?” He says “yes. I was there the day he was assassinated”. & it hit me like a ton of bricks. Though I understood Dr. Kings points, I always gravitated towards Malcolm’s message to fight back. I had lived in that neighborhood for all my life, & never knew that he had his life taken so close by. So we sat at the bus stop that’s next to that building, & he painted a vivid picture of what it was like that day. We were there for about an hour & a half just talking about that day, & how it made him feel. & he goes, “thank you young man. I have 40 years without stepping foot here because of that day. I didn’t know if I would have the strength to even look at it, but because of you, I had the courage to actually stand in front of it. Thank you for joining me in this”. I look at him, smiled, & then walked him back to the train. I go back to my block, excited to tell anyone about what I had just learned, only to find out that the cops had swept everyone in a massive raid that day. & surely, had I not ran into that man, I would’ve got caught up too. So not only did I dodge a 5 year bid, I also got to learn some great American history
I find Malcolm to be the most fascinating civil rights leader of his era because of how his views continued to evolve throughout his life. And he took a little of what he learned from his father, from the Nation of Islam, from other leaders like Evers and King, and from his own personal experience (notably his pilgrimage to Mecca), and synthesized a worldview and philosophy from all of that. The saddest part is that we'll never know how much further his views would have evolved because his light was extinguished way too soon.
You guys get a thumbs up just for reacting to this film. I feel that most reactors are terrified to react to it because of the feeling that might come out but that’s the beauty of this film. No matter how you feel it’s honest! This is my second greatest film after the godfather, Denzel’s best performance ever, the fact that Malcolm went through three phases and Denzel and Spike nailed it! The cinematography is immaculate and Mecca… WOW!
Thanks guys for sharing your personal, vulnerable moments in the beginning of the video!!!! Hoping things improve for both of you during this difficult time!!
The pilgrimage to Mecca scenes are the first scenes ever filmed in Mecca and one of the FBI Agents listening to Malcolm & Betty's phone call was played by director Oliver Stone.
Denzel would spend much time with Malcolm's siblings, he adopted the Muslim diet and learned to speak Arabic for this role, so it's safe to say Denzel legit dedicated his energy and focus to bringing the essence of Malcolm X to life.
Hey Aaron, I’ve been there brutha. Times are tough now but, things might get darker, but something better is on the way, even if it doesn’t seem like it. I got asked to resign a job I liked almost 2 years ago that I called my dream job. I found a new job one month later and next week, I’m starting a new career where I’ll making more money than the guy that made me unemployed 2 years ago. Hang in there!
Appreciate the realness guys, finally. This is why people started enjoying reactions because it was real, not a TV show with commercials and perfect scripts. Thank you!!!! Back to the beginning of reactions not turning it into regular TV
I can’t believe I caught this so soon! This movie deserves more reactions. I also wish you both the best of luck with your future work. I’m sorry to hear what you’re both going through. Stay safe and take care.
When I first watched this movie I felt like I was watching a Scorsese movie, with the great direction, cinematography, sound, editing, and performances, reminded me of Goodfellas; then years later my brother told me that it’s because Spike Lee was taught by Scorsese; Spike Lee must have taken inspiration from Goodfellas. Denzel’s performance was outstanding, deserved a standing ovation and an Oscar.
Denzel was nominated for best actor Oscar in 1993 for this. He lost to Pacino in Scent of a Woman who only won because he was long overdue. Washington should have won since he gave incredible performance!!
Piggy backing off of that, I'd also recommend they check out Fresh from 1994. Another great performance from a young Giancarlo...and another tragically powerful film.
It's incredible to me that even after sharing their personal struggles, they still sat through this incredibly intense movie and provided us with amazing commentary. One of the best reaction channels on UA-cam by far ❤
I thank yall for this reaction and honestly, being brave enough to do this reaction. If more people actually watched and listened, they’d understand that Malcolm would bring more u its among us today, not divide.
It's not said in the movie, but it's been mentioned that the character Shorty was comedian/ actor legend Redd Foxx. Redd Foxx and Malcolm X were childhood friends.
Idk who said that.. but if you Google it his friend shorty was a real person actually named Malcolm “Shorty” Jarvis he was a childhood best friend he had until he became a muslim, its actually very interesting to read about

1:24:20 Fun Fact that song by Sam Cooke called "A Change Is Gonna Come" is played here when Malcom is driving to his death and in the Ali movie with Will Smith it's played when Ali is driving and hears of Malcolm's death
Malcom Little, Malcolm X and El Hajj Malik Shabazz has to be one of the most iconic evolutions in the 20th Century. Plot twist: Alex Haley’s Book on him is even more in depth
Watching this death scene when I shouldn't have as a child was definitely terrifying. Then I saw it again in the movie Ali and that one is just as impactful.
The Autobiography of Malcolm X is a masterpiece, and this movie is a great addition..What's troubling is that 33 years after this movie, the Autobiography is on the list of literature to be banned in schools along with The Diary of Anne Frank and others.
Those suits were called Zoot suits. 15:20. Notice, that before Malcolm, went on his pilgrimage to Mecca, he was worshipping a man (Elijah Muhammad and not GOD/Allah). Thanks for your reaction to this movie. Wondering acting by everyone in this movie.
honestly to hard to choose, one of my favorite moments in a spike film though is when ron stallworth tells off david duke at the end of blackkklansman 😂😂
Sorry you guys are having such a hard time right now. Hope things get better soon. That said, this SHOULD HAVE been Denzel's 2nd Oscar win. Losing to Al Pacino in what isn't even his best performance was absolutely ridiculous.
I don’t know how no one won an Oscar from this. I remember seeing this in the theater after church (my dad insisted on taking us) and being so moved after. Having just started the reaction, I will keep both of you in my thoughts. I’m going through the same thing Aaron, so you’re not alone.
Now this was unexpected seriously, no one ever give Malcom X hardly the recognition he deserves because of the negative that people spoke of about him. What they fail to understand is that during his time things were definitely not cookie cutter with race relations but what we seen in this film and other documentation of Malcom that he even changed with time of understanding.
A film for the ages - a performance for the ages. Beautiful powerful tribute to one of the greatest leaders we've ever had. You guys should react to more Spike Lee Films - Crooklyn, Get On The Bus, Do The Right Thing, Mo' Better Blues.
Nice surprise this reaction! I love this film, and yall covering this at a time when i'm literally finishing the autobiography this screenplay is based on! Aaron I think you should pick it up fr,(The Autobiography of Malcolm X as told to Alex Haley), this film is a great visualization, but reading the thoughts and words from the man himself really just hit different.
Great film and extraordinary Oscar deserving 🎭 performance by Denzel Washington. Loved your emotional and analytical reaction. Malcolm X was assassinated as a young man but in that short span h lived 4 lifetimes.
One of my favorite movies..please do more Spike Lee films. “Mo Better Blues” and “Inside Man” are great Spike/Denzel combos …Do the right Thing is also classic
Aww Aaron, I’m so sorry to hear that. Just went through that myself. You’ll get a better job but yeah feel free to “mourn” the last one. Great reaction as ever. This was one of Denzel’s best.
Denzel perfection in the role. I think it it his best performance among the many great performances. And I also put this as one of Spike Lee's best movies too. Great story about someone who deserves much more study and consideration.
Wow so glad you're doing this film. Everyone should see it. So so important. On the strictly film side - it is outrageous that Al Pacino won the Oscar for Scent of a Woman. Denzel was stunning.
You should definitely react to Will Smith in Ali. Refusing induction into the Vietnam war, Ali's religious journey, changing his name, The Nation of Islam and his dealings with the honorable Elijah Muhammad and Malcolm X are all addressed.
Aaron I'm so sorry to hear that you lost your job my friend and Andrew I am so sorry to hear about your clients and your coaching/batting facility. You all are always in my thoughts and prayers ❤ you all my Reject family stay safe and blessed 🙏 ✌ and take care.
I first read "The Autobiography of Malcolm X" in '72 and have revisited it every couple of years since. The movie follows the book remarkably well. It gives the details that a movie can not do in a few hours...find a copy!
Giancarlo Esposito played in a spike lee film in 1988 called school daze with larry fishbourne.....the alphabet crew was definitely following Malcolm along with the guys who eventually took out Malcolm
One of the greatest motion pictures of ALL-TIME. Denzel was ROBBED of an Oscar for this performance. A performance that he gained infamy with while at FORDHAM!!! Thanks for reviewing this picture, Fellas.
Aw boys breaks my heart seeing you both so down. Wish I could give u both a hug. I'm so sorry to the both of you about your jobs. Better things are always around the corner. 😢
Malcolm X was becoming more like MLK and MLK was becoming more like X by the time of their end. What a world it would have been had they been successful in uniting.
First & foremost, I hope the both of you are able to get back on your feet. And most importantly props for reacting to this, I watch this movie every year on Malcolm X's Bornday (May 19th), the movie moves me!
So awesome you guys are reacting to this film💯..if you haven't already see Spike Lee's she hate me is one of my favorites from spike although that film may be too adult for your channel to put out, Terrance blanchard composed one of my favorite film scores..great reaction ❤from Louisiana
My heart and prayers go out to you both. There is so much tension and sadness and I hope you can find a sense of calm and happiness amidst the stress. Keep your heads up, don’t forget to feel your emotions, and thank you for the reaction. Great work ❤
Thank you guys for genuinely reacting to this film. Aaron and Jared were a good choice as the reactees. This is one of those movies that everyone needs to sit down and watch.
Empathy…my son lost his job too…he was exposed to Covid so out to avoid exposing others, then out with Covid…total of two weeks then fired when returned. Support and love.❤
I'm sending you both lots of love big hugs, thank you for reacting to this film when you're feeling vulnerable. I love this movie. I was also lucky enough to take dance lessons from the same man who taught Denzel and Spike to dance for the Lindy Hop scenes. His name is Frankie Manning, and you can actually see him in the background during the dance scenes. If you look Frankie up, you can find some amazing dance footage of him.
love this channel because i never know what to expect.. you guys have a great friendship, completely different backgrounds but able to share the same compassion watching this.. Denzel absolutely embodied this portrayal of my favorite civil rights leader.. he should have won best actor for this but this role is bigger than any award he could of received..
Loved to see this! nobody will ever do such good reactions like you do!! I know that you hate sad movies but Jack and the couckoo clock heart. ( I hope i wrote that right) is the most beautiful and sad movie I have ever seen
We need a Malcom X in today’s extremely turbulent times. As much as I absolutely loved Dr King and how the impact his peaceful protests had, pacifism can’t accomplish anything in the digital age. It would be drowned out by all of the lies and disinformation. We need more proactive men like Malcolm X now more than ever.
unfortunately people are not ready for a new Malcolm because people are not down for a revolution. people say we need a change but when it's time to actually do the work people disappear or deliver the bare minimum if anything at all
Now, read Malcolm's autobiography. It fills a lot of the holes that the movie has, and truly brings Malcolm back to life. Thank you Aaron and Alexander.
Oh man. I still remember being at a special premiere screening for this film at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. I sat through every minute of this film. I didn't even get up to use the bathroom. It was such a fascinating film and Denzel's performance was breathtaking. I was around when they shooting the movie in Harlem.. one of my friends even played a prostitute in that scene where Malcom is walking through the brownstones. We always knew it was going to something special. I'm surprised that neither one of you noticed a young Wendell Pierce in the film. He played one of the assassins along with Giancarlo.

This movie it's such a must watch and people down play it so much, it's gorgeous and Denzel's acting is just elite
Agreed, this is definitely Denzel’s best on screen performance imo.
His death scene has got to be one of the most brutal moments in film. And that's pretty accurate to what happened too which is even more distressing.
If you slow the scene or just have a very keen eye, you can see Malcolm smiling slightly, like accepting his dead.
And worse knowing the authorities likely prosecuted and convicted the wrong guys.
Passion of the Christ death scene was far worse. This is second for me. So sad. Horrific.

13:26 "The Hotep in me smells danger." 🤣🤣🤣💀
Denzel Washington's GOATED performance 🔥🐐
Denzel was nominated for best actor Oscar in 1993 for this. He lost to Pacino in Scent of a Woman who only won because he was long overdue. Washington should have won since he gave incredible performance!!
And Spike Lee should have been nominated for director and best picture
If you want to see Giancarlo Esposito even younger in another Spike Lee movie check out School Daze!!
And as Buggin Out in Do the Right Thing
Piggy backing off of that, I'd also recommend they check out Fresh from 1994. Another great performance from a young Giancarlo...and another tragically powerful film.
It's incredible to me that even after sharing their personal struggles, they still sat through this incredibly intense movie and provided us with amazing commentary. One of the best reaction channels on UA-cam by far ❤
Wow! This is amazing! Never seen any reactions to this -- one of my favorite people ever, Malcolm X
Not childhood friends but later on in Harlem
Idk who said that.. but if you Google it his friend shorty was a real person actually named Malcolm “Shorty” Jarvis he was a childhood best friend he had until he became a muslim, its actually very interesting to read about
Shorty was a real person. He was his best friend in the autobiography. Sophia and Laura are real people as well
@@sondraj816 that’s what I was thinking, thank you!
You should read the autobiography
The scene where Sam Cooke is playing and just the look Denzel gives when the older lady says God will protect you…still makes me tear up
Aaron I lost my job, I drove an ambulance for 3 years and was let go along with a few other ppl.
Alls my life I has to fight, *****
Alls my life I

1:24:20 Fun Fact that song by Sam Cooke called "A Change Is Gonna Come" is played here when Malcom is driving to his death and in the Ali movie with Will Smith it's played when Ali is driving and hears of Malcolm's death
The relationship they had is portrayed in the movie One Night in Miami.
Sam Cooke was good friends with Malcolm X
Props to the channel for watching this. Like others have said not a lot of reactors watch this movie for some reason. An amazing film.
Aaron and Andrew, you bring such a joy to me from who you are as a person. Thank you so much for being so vulnerable with us, love from Texas ❤
That's very disturbing.
Yep.
What's your favorite Spike Lee Joint?
One of them is He Got Game.
My favourite Spike Lee Joint is “Do the right thing” .
Hope you both get a job you enjoy soon Dudes! 🙏🏽 . How’s the situation in LA now?
Definitely this film. In my opinion, this was not only snubbed for Best Lead Actor but also Best Picture and Director.
Blackkklansman
honestly to hard to choose, one of my favorite moments in a spike film though is when ron stallworth tells off david duke at the end of blackkklansman 😂😂
Ya’ll reacting to Malcom X is absolutely fire! Major respect
Sorry you guys are having such a hard time right now. Hope things get better soon. That said, this SHOULD HAVE been Denzel's 2nd Oscar win. Losing to Al Pacino in what isn't even his best performance was absolutely ridiculous.
That's incredible that y'all reacted to this epic movie. Much props!
I don’t know how no one won an Oscar from this. I remember seeing this in the theater after church (my dad insisted on taking us) and being so moved after. Having just started the reaction, I will keep both of you in my thoughts. I’m going through the same thing Aaron, so you’re not alone.
WHOA!!! DIDN’T EXPECT THIS REACTION.
It would have been interesting had he lived whether Malcolm might have turned to Christianity in his later life.
To me, this is Denzel's best performance. So glad to see you review this movie, especially in these times. Quite relevant.
Praying for the both of you, there's Better opportunities that will come!
Aww Aaron, I’m so sorry to hear that. Just went through that myself. You’ll get a better job but yeah feel free to “mourn” the last one.
Great reaction as ever. This was one of Denzel’s best.
I was 14 years old when I watched this movie opening night in Fairbanks. I was the only indian in that theater. Great movie. My top 3.
Denzel perfection in the role. I think it it his best performance among the many great performances. And I also put this as one of Spike Lee's best movies too. Great story about someone who deserves much more study and consideration.
When I saw that my fav guys were reacting to one of my fav movies… *internal screams*
Sending love to you both 💕✨
Ossie Davis the man that gave the monolog at the end actually helped dig Malcolm 's grave at his burial.
Wow so glad you're doing this film. Everyone should see it. So so important.
On the strictly film side - it is outrageous that Al Pacino won the Oscar for Scent of a Woman. Denzel was stunning.
Denzel and Spike were robbed at the Oscars.
Esposito was also in "Mo' Better Blues", another Spike Lee movie starring Denzel Washington and Wesley Snipes.
One of the greatest motion pictures of ALL-TIME.
Denzel was ROBBED of an Oscar for this performance.
A performance that he gained infamy with while at FORDHAM!!!
Thanks for reviewing this picture, Fellas.
Relaxer burns a lot.
This is a beautiful and pleasant surprise! Thank you!!!
Denzel’s actual Best Performance
The “Gravity” of that scene needs to be seen so that no one will forget those realities. But i understand there are UA-cam guidelines.
First channel I have seen react to this movie, thank you!
I’m sorry to hear about your employment situation 😮 I pray you find something better soon 🙏
"The hotep in me smells danger" is crazy, Aaron. 😂
This is my favorite movie of all time. It shares that space with Life and starship troopers.
My heart and prayers go out to you both. There is so much tension and sadness and I hope you can find a sense of calm and happiness amidst the stress. Keep your heads up, don’t forget to feel your emotions, and thank you for the reaction. Great work ❤
The Ghost of Mississippi is another great movie to view, Also The Long Walk home
Thank you guys for genuinely reacting to this film. Aaron and Jared were a good choice as the reactees. This is one of those movies that everyone needs to sit down and watch.
I remember my grandpa dragging me as an 8th grader to go see this at the movies...so thankful he did. 💯💯💯
That brutha starvin’
I was expecting them to catch that.
Prayers up for both of you during trying times ❤
Empathy…my son lost his job too…he was exposed to Covid so out to avoid exposing others, then out with Covid…total of two weeks then fired when returned. Support and love.❤
I'm so sorry that you both are going through tough times. I'm sending love to both of you
I'm sending you both lots of love big hugs, thank you for reacting to this film when you're feeling vulnerable.
Fun fact spiked Lee plays Redd Fox as a young man because he was Malcolm Xs friend back in the day before the nation of Islam
1:28:19 that is the voice of Ozzie Davis reading the actual eulogy that he delivered at Brother Malcolm's funeral.
Loved to see this!
nobody will ever do such good reactions like you do!!
I know that you hate sad movies but Jack and the couckoo clock heart. ( I hope i wrote that right) is the most beautiful and sad movie I have ever seen
Prayers up for both of you.
Wow, I bet that was an awsome experience.
