- Our camp routine while backpacking is pretty simple: set up the tent, cook and eat, hang our scented items, change into a dry layer, and then head to bed!

Like I’m going along with them too. I have a severe case of Psoriatic Arthritis and Ankylosing Spondylitis I can’t stand or walk for long periods and just 5 yrs ago I was very active and I miss that part of my life so very much. Watching these 2 really brings some light into my day. Wishing you the best ! 😊

Been married 45 years. The evolution of our relationship includes that we each understand where we belong when we need to do chores. She does her stuff; I do mine. All the chores get done. Now, we’re not locked in. I can go grocery shopping, prepare meals, wash, fold and put away our clothes and clean house. She can carry clothes, wash the cars and gas ‘em up, take out the trash, walk the dog. Things that need doing, get done. We like each other as best friends. We love each other beyond that. When they shared affection they smiled. It tugs on the heart strings.

Today I hiked a 2.2 miler at Olympic NP. The elevation was 3112. That’s probably a warm up to y’all but I was definitely feeling the burn, lol. Y’all are motivating me to want to keep hitting the trails!! 👍🏻

Hikers midnight is actually around 10:30. Most hikers are not even going to sleep until 9:30-10 pm.

My husband and I both grew up camping, so when our boys came along we continued doing that, as they hot around 8 and 9years of age, we started backpacking and always had other couples and a bunch of kids up to 18 years old. We did that until the boys went off to school. The memories are so special with getting bears and other animals out of camp and even a mountain lion jumping over our jeep as we went down the road. They have thanked us many times when they realized what they experienced. We are thankful to the boys, without them we would probably not done all the thins we did. We started Memorial weekend and stopped when hunting season began. I am so thankful to have had those wonderful experiences with the boys and all the other kids we took along so they could enjoy too.

Also, second question, what if a bear does snatch your food, even hung well in a tree? What is your back up idea for food?
I worked at a remote Summer Camp in the California mountains and we had a bear actually break through our kitchen wall (of an actual building) and it found all the dry food. The food not eaten was on the floor and compromised as per state laws to feed to the campers. Big claw slashes through so much stuff. Thank God it did not get into the walk in freezer, but we lost a lot of food for 300 campers.
My other question, if you did not see it:
Have you ever run out of water and could not find a stream??? If that were to happen, what could you do?
They usually stop in little towns along the way on long trips so they'd probably buy something there until the next food delivery day. They mail food to themselves and pick it up at post offices along the way so they aren't carrying everything. Theres often little hangout areas for hikers in these towns so other hikers might have food to "lend" them too.
I think I need that recipe for that meal. That looked very good!

If it rains, be sure that your ground sheet overhang does not collect and run the water into the tent floor.

Yeah, if those bears want that food, they’re going to get it, the bear bags really just keep your food away from your camping/sleeping area so you have less chance of interacting with bears. Bears are very good tree climbers and are super resourceful, I use to live in the wilderness capital of BC Canada, trust me on this one. This is just an information post for those who aren’t aware, so they aren’t surprised when a bear gets into their bear bag lol 😂. These hikers are well seasoned, so I’m
sure they are aware of this.
