@Jake Monson it's not the same person. The Paul Young in Mike+the Mechanics sadly unexpectedly passed away in 2000 from heart attack. Which left the band with only Paul Carrack singing. They released a last album in 2004 with this line up and did a couple of shows in London, until P. Carrack left for solo musical projects. It is not until 2011 that Mike Rutherford reformed the band with 2 new singers. They have released 2 albums since and did quite a bit of touring
Thinking the same thing today whilst it played in the background (original version). Loved it back in the 80s but never knew why. Now it's just other-worldly when it plays.
Andrew Roachford's vocal is impressive. I like the subtle edge he has given this song by playing just a little bit with his vocal timing. This is such an underrated band!
alan murphy is so missed. That stunning solo on this song can only be played by him. Mike was so smart to bring the best to the table for this album. I'm sure Mike thinks of Alan every time he attempts the solo. - so haunting and selfless
Só por Gary Wallis estar ai, lendário do Pink Floyd e acompanhar o Jean Michel Jarre e à pouco tempo o tb maravilhoso Schiller, vale muito a pena escutar e assisti-los, com certeza.Parabéns ao grupo.
this is the best rithm of the world i mean the best sound which will never be forgotten and it will be just there in anywhere or a world corner and listen today the present is always here
As much as I like Andrew Roachford as a solo artist, this sounds like a karaoke version of the original song. It was bad enough when the group unexpectedly and tragically lost Paul Young, but when Psul Carrack finally left the group that should well have signaled the end to Mike Rutherford.
@@cs0rpc Too bad he didn't go for a guy with a six-string instead. This example is really uninspired, especially compared with Alan Murphy's work on the original studio version. Mike barely touches the tremolo. Murphy worked his like a violinist's bow.
Hard not to agree. The great talent that MR is and as much as I admire the role he played in music, this guitar work is substandard. Of course he's always been huge on bass and a 12-str. but occasionally he DID shine on a 6-string lead, Abacab live version being a good example, Burning Rope studio version from ATTWH being another. Here, however, I'd rather un-hear it...
it is/was wonderful to see this music still played live - it's going away quicker than we thought - regarding the comments, humans are pathetic when presented with no/little consequence for poor behavior and always will be
Pitiful. M & M should have been laid to rest after Paul Young sadly passed way too soon. Rutherford is a fine writer & bass player ,but lead has never been his forte. Having said that the solo on Burning Rope on ATTWT is a fave of mine. All the life seems to have been drained from Mike since the decline of Genesis.
The original 5 were Mike + the Mechanics: Mike Rutherford, Paul Carrack, Paul Young, Adrian Lee & Peter Van Hooke. That was the magic.
yes, just a shadow of the original, have just been to see them very very disappointed
@@peteradkins6792 Paul Carrack's soulful voice is badly needed here.
@Jake Monson Paul Young had a heart attack in 2000
@Jake Monson Paul Carrack is alive

prophetic song for today 2022

Amazing old song from the 80 s🤘💕🔥

Man I wish I could see this live!
I like the lead singer. He has the timing of Willie Nelson.
His vocals are on point and I like the edgy background guitar sound during the verses.
from '86 to late 2002-absolutely Prophetic as is "V for Vendetta" film of 2005--
It’s coming
Lo maximo!!!

Did U2 steal this bass line?
@@fernandeaux1631 Yes, from Genesis' Home by the Sea. Rutherford stole from himself.
Thanks, dude!! Love music history knowledge!!😎👍

Is that Roachford on keyboard and vocals?
Yes
and the bass?

Who is this guy in sunglasses and why is he there?
That’s the current lead singer
Why does this sound so up beat ?
Well so much for the solo, great singing though
Agree. Mike should've hired a guitarist instead of a bass player.
58icarus He did hire a guitar player, just he’s playing bass. Anthony Drennan was Genesis’ touring guitarist in 1998

Not sure what all the negative comments are for, I thought they did pretty good, the crowd seemed to like it as well.

That’s just Mike.
What the fuck is happening here
Butchered that guitar solo.
Yes this is one of my favorite recorded solos EVER and that was absolute crap
Agreed. Rutherford couldn't hold a candle to the brilliance of Alan Murphy.
Oooof... Mike does what he can to sound like Murphy. But it ain't working. 😕
Listen to 1989 Mechanics Tour.. He was playing very well, as the studio version

This bunch sounds like a junior high sock hop band, and not a very good one. Rutherford should be ashamed to even show up with these guys.
An English person won't understand any of what you said..
This so-called singer is a joke.
