*NONSTOP STANK FACES* First time hearing SEPULTURA "DEAD EMBRYONIC CELLS" | Metal Musician Reacts!

- It's absolutely absurd how heavy this song is!!! We’re doing the “Live in Barcelona 1991” version, because…why not? Hope you all enjoy my reaction to hearing Dead Embryonic Cells by Sepultura for the first time!!!
ORIGINAL SONG: Dead Embryonic Cells by Sepultura (1991)
Hi I'm Brandon! I'm a musician of over 20 years primarily in the metal genre. I've created music ranging anywhere from Metalcore, Death Metal, Djent, Progressive, even Nu-Metal. Somehow after all this time I've managed to avoid listening to a lot of classic bands, and now I want to change that.

In my opinion, Arise is a perfect album. Even after 30 years it still resonates. It's the perfect blend of thrash, death, and groove.
Yeah, this song absolutely CRUSHED so I’m definitely checking out the rest of the album.
Agreed. Arise is Incredible.
It really is
This is probably my all time favorite live DVD.
Sepultura's "Beneath the Remains" and "Arise" are thrash metal classics. I was into other thrash bands before I heard Sepultura, then I heard the Arise album. I was blown the f*ck away. Still one of my top 5 albums of all time.
They're actually playing this faster than the album version.
Lol I don't doubt it!
Ya godamn right they are!
Not to mention max's vocals are brutally badass
Yes! Great choice, man!
One of the greatest breakdowns in Metal history!
This 91 concert is brutallity from start to finsih. The oppening followed by Arise is a must now!
Keep it up! 🤘🏽
Hell yeah man. I was lucky to see them on tour for the Beneath the Remains album. Small venue in Milwaukee, maybe 100 people there. Igor was at the entrance shaking hands and thanking everyone for “coming to show”. I caught a drumstick he tossed out at the end and still have it. I’ve seen a lot of shows but that night is the fucking pinnacle.
Man that's so rad! I've still never seen them live, I was a bit too young before Max left the band and just haven't made a priority. Not sure if it's worth seeing the current incarnation but I may have to see about that someday if they ever come to town. I love hearing favorite concert stories about the good ol' days, I certainly have my share! Thanks for hanging out again!
My pleasure, warms this old bastards heart to see younger peeps like you enjoying this era of ass-kickery. Btw, this whole album (and Arise as well) absolutely crushes. You know what must be done. ;)
@@BrandonBames the actual incarnation definitely worth to check it out, starting from their 2020 album "Quadra" there's a song called in Isolation that is high level thrash metal stuff
@@BrandonBames Think that boat has sailed, Derek Greene has fronted them far longer than Max ever did but the OG lineup of Max, Igor, Andreas & Paolo jnr were the best incarnation of Sepultura. Being an old fart I've seen them about a dozen times. 😎
@@jasonriley4769 Morbid Visions, their first album is brutally heavy.
Great reaction my man!! This band took my metal virginity, especially the Arise album . Entire record kick’s all asses in this world, thrashing excellence. I was so mad that the Cavalera brothers left Sepultura couldn’t stand listen to the new shit for years, recently I accepted it and took my time to listen the new stuff, It’s still an awesome sounding band. Though the old stuff is superior.
Hey thanks!!! Good to know the newer stuff is at least worth checking out, but yeah there is undeniable magic with the brothers involved.
That WHOLE ALBUM, SONG AND SHOW are all FANTASTIC. You should check out Desperate Cry (even from the same show), Inner Self (same show as well), Arise, Territory.
You should also check out the live version of To The Wall and Lobotomy in 1989. There is a huge circle pit in the middle of the auditorium they are in, it's crazy!!!
Thanks! I’ll definitely be watching the rest of this show! BR00TAAAALLLL
Man, 1989 was the year for live thrash, huh? That Metallica Live From Seattle ‘89 is probably the best live show I’ve ever seen.
dude that whole fucking concert is badass . you need to watch from beginning to end.
Oh I DEFINITELY will!
The entire beneath the remains album is a masterpiece you'll love if you liked this
Nice! I’m stoked to check it out!
Arise
If you like this than make the next step and listen to Death. They are the founders of Death Metal, but very melodic and because of their (sometimes) thrashy riffs in some way similar to the old Sepultura. Check out "Flattening of Emotions"(no official video available) and "Lack Of Comprehension" (good official video). Excellent guitarwork, stunning guitar solos, and an awsome athmosphere... a fantastic time document of the early 90s! Be sure to watch the studio versions and not live, because live it is sometimes too complex and confusing, and and they use much more guitar tracks in the studio.
And don't forget to watch Heathen that i recommended you on your ANTHRAX - I Am The Law video ;-) This are the best guitar players in this genre.
Cheerz and best regards, ivenstein 🤘🤘🍻
Hey thanks for hanging out again ivenstein! So as far as Death goes I’ve heard the songs Symbolic and Flesh And The Power It Holds so I’m somewhat familiar with what a badass Chuck Schuldiner was and what a tragedy it was to lose him so young, though I’ve never listened to the songs you mentioned so I think we should definitely get em on the channel soon!
And don’t worry, we’ll get to Heathen VERY soon. You’ve got me very intrigued and excited to check em out! Thanks for all the support and encouragement!
Death are one of the pioneers of death metal, I wouldn't say they are the founders of the genre. Sepultura were doing death metal with Bestial Devastation ('85) and Morbid Visions ('86) before Scream Bloody Gore ('87). Necrophagia were around the same time too. They released their album several months before Death's debut.
sep and death are not anything alike, I consider Death extremely technical, don't get me wrong I love them, both were products (and obituary) of morrisound studios... sepultura really brought a different vibe, the tribal shit...
@@andremariano6263 I am willing to agree if you provide me an example, I really just react in the moment from memory but I totally could have missed something, so please enlighten me, seriously ! that whole time was so long ago I only remember what I remember, thanks!
That "oh shit" said it all my friend.
I have a feeling that will be a theme with Sepultura...
Just listen to Desperate Cry, Inner Self, Arise, and then check the new album from new Sepultura formation called "Quadra"
This must be one of the best live metal shows ever
🇧🇷 national pride!!!
listen to either desperate cry or territory by sepultura!!
Loved that live in barcelona video..good shout reacting to that version. I like everything up until arise album..I like bits of other stuff..but it's not the same vibe for me. I think if I was introducing somebody to sepultura for the first time it would be this song or desperate cry, but there are quite a few chuggy thrashers from arise and beneath the remains to pick from.
It's kind of how I'm used to checking out music for the first time; seeing it live and having my mind blown then taking the album home and dissecting it further. Desperate Cry seems to be the favorite, so I'm definitely going to check that one out very soon!
I was about 12yo at a Sam Goody's around 92, 93, picking out some of my first cassettes (Primus, AIC, Ministry) and looking at Sepultura. I'd never heard of them before but was considering a buy based on album art. This dude comes over to me, 24yo or so, hot GF, in cowboy boots and straw cowboy hat. He hands me Arise, and says get this one. Not sure why I listened to Slim Pickens, but he was so right. Still one of my all time favorite albums.
Sam Goody - where dreams come true…and cost about 20% above normal retail!
Sepultura Chaos AD great album too.
maybe one of the top 5 thrash songs ever
Whole Album! 🤘🖤🤘
Cool reaction !! - Next have to be: Impalers - God From the Machine.... Some sick danish underground Thrash !! - Keep up the good work btw.
Thanks Dennis! I’ll add it to the list!
woot!
Bro, listen to 'Territorry'. Probably my favorite Sepultura song. Cheers from Brasil \,,/
Arise... Their best album ever imo! Every song on that album is glorious! You'll be banging off the walls
Masterpiece.
This song is one of the thrash's perfections.
Saw them in 96... unbelievable
Awesome drinking music
Subbed just for the Arise LUV
Check out death spiritual healing
Bro, react to this entire concert!
Great song from the Max era Sepultura, check out Inner Self from the same gig. Just wait for the "c'mon Barcelona, let's destroy this fuc*ing place". Max was so hard on guitar strings he often played on just 4 strings. 😆
Excellent
04:02 let's goooo
This is what we play for!
Max was such a badass he didn't even use six strings. He only would string his guitar with the E, A and D strings. He said he never used the other 3 so he said fuck it. Lol. True story, non fiction.
I like altered states, chaos ad,
They were the best band ever
as far as sepultura songs goes, here are my recommendations: refuse/resist, territory, desperate cry, inner self, slave new world, stronger than hate
Sepultura 🤟🤟
Yes sir! 🤘🤯🤘
This is real sepultura
You gotta do desperate cry by them it’s another fire one on that album
That one is getting a lot of requests, definitely going to do it soon. Thanks!
I had this Barcelona show on VHS and the quality of the image was awful, due to the amount of times I watched it. Lol
I believe it, this show was BRUUUUTAL!
HEAVVVVYYYY
...as a really heavy thing!
Very nice my Friend
Thank you sir!
Still know every word at 49.
Nice shirt
No thrash journey is complete without some Megadeth!
Nice reacion man. React a Desperate Cry song from Giants of Rock Finland 1991, amazing performance.
Thanks Roger! I'm getting a lot of requests for Desperate Cry so that'll definitely be what I do next.
@@BrandonBames Nice one Man. Congrats from Brazil
Yeah. We were an angry bunch back in the early 90s.
Listen Beneath the Remains 😈😈😈😈😈
Old sepultura before roots is the best sepultura.
Brazil 🇧🇷
fucking great reaction mate, I first heard them on cassette tape lol they are brutal you gotta react to Arise in the same show and desperate cry. When you get time check out my band we are a hard rock band from Sydney, Australia. I have subscribed to your channel.
All songs by Sepultura are great but they fininished on Roots, you need to check and Soulfly too!
Arise is a killer album and Chaos A.D. after that. Got to say Roots was huge dissapointment after these two albums. I was waiting so much more about Roots as it came out at 1995.
Yeah Roots never seemed to grab me, which is why I never really checked anything else out from them. I think I heard it in 2002 which might have also contributed.
@@BrandonBames I can relate to that. At least these days the first song has really make impression or might be that the second chance ain´t comming very soon.
That is the reason why reckord companies makes music videos for those songs that they believe most of the people likes (out side of the fanbase) and sounds most selling top chard hit. But that what the real fans would like the most doesn´t usualy ever get to the video.
At that case Roots didn´t have much of other choises for video. That whole reckord was more of a experimenting to mix up some Brasilian tribal sounds to metal and didn´t work very well. After that singer/guitarist left the band and started with his tribal line as a new band called Soulfly.
That’s Brazil folks
Igor is the man.
thrash metal will always be the best metal genre
🇧🇷🥇
Beneath the remains, and Arise, entire albums are great. I love all of them up to Roots. Now if you want to hear them at the same level you have to check out Cavalera Conspiracy. here is a link to a most badass song/video. cya
ua-cam.com/video/rIj3kpPYh1M/v-deo.html
More sepultura. React to Desperate Cry album version
Morbid visions os cavaleira
You must try Pantera
you can call yourself a thrash man without hear sepultura.
True American hate or Over the Wall, both by Testament, the first song is pretty much what all Metallica fanboys wished they became, Over the wall is just a really beautiful thrash song from their first album haha
Thanks for the suggestions, the only Testament song I’ve heard is DNR which I know is a later song but just that one has me STOKED to check out more! I’ll definitely do at least one of them soon!
how can you have listened to roots... and not arise... it is so insane to me to fathom that... they always had groove.. try "stronger than hate" , great groove/riffs, wtf, when I was a learning metal head I wanted to go back and consume whole catalogs...
TBH, Roots never grabbed me enough back then to make me want to dive deeper. I heard it right when I was transitioning from listening to nu-metal to more hardcore/metalcore stuff, and I think I kinda put Sepultura more in that nu-metal category. Only now so many years later am I realizing there’s a wealth of good metal I’ve never even checked out. Thanks for all the recommendations!
@@BrandonBames I also think there was this mystique (for some of us) about Morrisound Studio (tampa), for a few years they were just putting out every amazing metal/death album there was.
If you haven't listen to any cannibal corpse then they should definitely be next.
Well I’ve seen Ace Ventura so I’ve heard Hammer Smashed Face hundreds of times, but that’s about it. What else should I check out?
Go older. Troops of doom 2. Off schizophrenia.
Arise was a phenomenal album.
