Brick Veedu (trnsl. House) is the simple union of a unit of building and the purpose it serves. The elevation of the brick from just a building block to a role of lending character to the spaces is the simple story of Brick Veedu.
The intent was to give life to the clients requirements in the form of open volumes that are visually connected - with bricks as their embodiment.
The theme - of building materials wanting to be their own - earnestly inspired from Laurie Baker - further supplement the spaces in the form of stones , wood , steel and colourful Athangudi tiles (hand-made tiles from village of Athangudi)
The spaces are also a conscious reflection of the architects imagination and ideals, there in constantly striving to break stereotypes that include heavy plasterwork , gilded metal grills for the purpose of security and even the idea of ‘elevation design’.
The approach to planning began with creating volumes upon which spaces were added to create openness. The resulting volumes demand a level of light and air-flow to make them habitable - requiring climate conditions to be addressed. The north-east walls of the Brick Veedu were made accessible to abundant levels of light with a naturally diffused nature.
The volumes also rise up to provide for stack effect through the length of the roof
The planning also addresses the subtle separation of private spaces from the semi-private and public zones through levels.
A simple but elaborate extension of the staircase landing space into an open meditation area with a Mexican dome as its crown, and a bridge with skeletal steel frame lend interest in overall spatial experience
A conscious effort to not lend a monolithic nature to the brick Veedu , can be visible in form of cues of stone and wood - Навчання та стиль
