    Wait, you printed the chassis, too?? Fukken A, dude. That's ass kicking!
    EDIT:: OMG, when I saw what you did with the headlight and taillight buckets, I immediately cheered! Blacked interiors are so much better than chromed interiors on car lights. And DEFINITELY much better than blacking out or tinting the lens, especially if the interior is still chrome underneath the lens tint. Love this shiz. Good job, dude!

    Since you like the car both with and without the spoiler, why not use magnets to hold it on. The body is thin enough to put magnets on the inside to hold the wing on. Then it is easy to remove it when you don't want it...

    Cool project, but there's two things bugging me:
    Why are you taking days to smooth out 3D printed parts when it can be done in minutes with acetone?
    Also, why are you mounting a RHD dash in a LHD body?

    • @MakeItRC
      @MakeItRC  6 років тому

      Glad you like the project. to answer your questions;
      I've talked about using acetone vs. resin coating before, I use both processes and each has it's own pro's and con's. In short, ABS (the far superior plastic for acetone smoothing) is trickier to print and shrinks more than other materials such as PLA. The printer I used to make the parts for this build was set up for printing in PLA, and with some of the small details and over hangs of these parts, (ex: turn signal/wiper levers on column) choosing ABS would have made these parts a bit trickier to produce. PLA is also more ridged than ABS and the resin coating gives the parts even more rigidity and improves the parts strength. Also unlike acetone which will evenly smooth the entire surface of the part, when applying resin you can lay it on thick in spots that need a lot of smoothing but also apply it very light or not at all to sections that contain a lot of detail. That's what I wanted to try to do on the dash but it didn't really work out, but I figured no ones going to see it in much detail so why bother. Also the coating is extremely easy and quick to sand, and It drys quick if exposed to heat. As I said both processes have their pros and cons but hopefully that provides you with a bit of context as to why I went this root. You can find a lot more information on websites and forums about 3D printing.
      The Subaru Impreza was manufactured in both RHD and LHD depending on the market it was being sold in. Despite this being a WRC body, I built mine to look like a modified WRX STI set up for rally cross racing. Hence the gun metal paint, black light housings, STI spoiler, factory style mirrors and dash, and lack of rally equipment/decals. If you note the door handle decals you will see the door unlock key hole on the right front door, being below the handle and towered the back of the car as it should be. It would look a bit strange to have the key hole on the right but have the drivers seat on the left (minor oversight by manufacturer for those who want an accurate WRC replica). Plus when choosing driver position for a car I usually default to how it would be in the cars country of origin. If I'm building a Japanese or British car I go RHD, if American or Italian I go LHD not always but most often.

    I am not going to 3d print anything but using Autodesk maya for modeling would be better or should I use a student CAD program for modeling

    • @MakeItRC
      @MakeItRC  6 років тому

      It depends on what you want to design. Maya is more geared towards game development and animation. If you want to do mechanical design, you'll want to use something like Inventor or Fusion 360. FreeCAD and Blender are both open source and great options if you just want to do some 3D design as a hobby.

If you look closely at the front right door you will see a key hole to unlock the door which is always placed on the drivers side of the vehicle. If I went with LHD I'd look a bit odd to have the driver on the left but the key hole on the right.

  • @Vegeta_SuperSaiyanGod

    you really didn't have to do that with the 3D printed part could have used the acetone method to smooth out the layers from the printing process. could have done a light sand/file then put the part on a table with a small dish of acetone put a plastic container over it all then put a heater or blow dryer to heat the temp inside the container to evaporate the acetone boom perfect smooth and no noticeable printing layers. if you don't understand that just look up the acetone 3D print smooth method. after typing this i realize this video is from 2017. sorry I'm a little late to help...
