Honestly, the Bon jumpscare is probably one of my favorite scares of all time. Instead of being a typical jumpscare of "sudden scary image with loud sound", it has build up to it, meaning it doesn't come out of left field like most jumpscares do. Furthermore, it's not a scary image+loud sound, it's a scary image, but it's our commentator, Ashley, who takes a moment to process exactly what she's looking at lets out a shrill scream which is cut before it goes on too long, and because of the build up, we know exactly how scared she is. It's great.
it's terrifying, the whole bit with Ashley and the backdoors and the clown saying the names and then her being put into him and how she was left screaming in the K-9 facility where nobody could hear her while Hilary and Kevin left.😖 gives me chills
@@TheSirDominic Yeah I didn't get why Mat would compare this to Blair Witch. Two different movies in different eras, one is shockingly similar to the Walten Files when looking deep into the animatronics and the other was like you said wouldn't come out for nearly 2 decades.

I love how matt literally references texas chainsaw massacre in a previous walten files video and tells the guy who references it in the tapes to check his references
But it was also an error on Matt's part. 2003 film was a remake. Original movie was in 1973, and it was lightly based on the real-life murderer Ed Gein, who is suspected to have taken several victims between 1954 and 1957. It absolutely makes sense for some guy in 1974 to remember a horror movie from a year prior while investigating spooky stuff.

One thing that is strange throughout the animatronics is that, the more... corpsey ones have enormous chest cavities, with something no longer inside. Interesting...
i notieced that and started to wonder about the pigs anf the cows, what if the bodies were eventually taken out and burried at a farm? A farm area that could be abandoned or near the relocation project stuff. Banny's love of the farm and the lingering at the pig and cow area couldve been more meaningful as to signal where the bodies are kept tho Sophie doesnt know that so might call it off
37:30 That is Sha's exo-skeleton. You can tell by the fallen ears and the color of the eyes and the eyelashes and also the color of her exo-suit. When Ashely was looking through the rooms, she saw this exact endo-suit in the backroom corner, meaning that Sha's actual endo-suit is in the back and Rosemary's body is what is currently inside of Sha.
10:27 MatPat, if they had mentioned the Blair Witch Project in the video, that would be a major anachronism given that the Blair Witch Project wouldn't exist for another 21 years at the time this video is in. The reason they mention the Texas Chainsaw Massacre makes sense given that the video is set in 1978, and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre came out in 1974.
@@tatltails3923 I got curious and looked up the origin of the term "hella", and I found that it can be traced back to the late 70s in Oakland, California. The creepy music was called "Everywhere At The End Of Time" which is a song representing Dementia. The pills might have something to do with that. Not sure.
EATEOT doesn't have lyrics, it's just instrumental, but the pieces used to compose the album do have lyrics, so it's one of the pieces that make the album
I think the song you're referring to is Al Bowlly's "Heartaches" and Russ Morgan's "Goodnight my Beautiful" sampled in EATEOD's "It's Just a Burning Memory" and "Libet's Delay" respectively for anyone who wants to listen to the originals ^_^
This is late - but I think the Sophie BEEP is essentially the list noting that Sophie ISN'T dead. Where as the others were killed and the friendly beeps were a check list.
i love how MatPat gets confused whenever Kevin references The Texas Chainsaw Massacre instead of The Blair Witch Project, even though these tapes are taking place in the 70’s and very early 80’s and Blair Witch didn’t come out until 1999
So, one of the main concepts of the story is that in death and being stuffed, a group of people are now beautiful. Why? Well, Bon said in the last episode that "you're broken". If I remember correctly, he was talking to Rosie, Jack's wife. She was obviously grieving the disappearance of her husband and based on the fact that she was waiting in a restaurant IN THE DARK OF NIGHT despite having no idea where he is, she may have been going through some mental problems. Broken. Now to Jack. Although we do not know a crazy amount about Jack, he seems to appear in some creepy ways and places, which is not a way that a stable person would be placed normally. If we check the timeline, he disappears shortly after his kids died. In that time, he is clearly mad at Kranken for disappearing and not returning his kids. He is panicked. Perhaps in his search for his kids, he snaps and either kills someone (leading him to hide somewhere to avoid detection) or he is kidnapped and/or killed by someone. Either way, he is physically and/or mentally broken. Stricken by grief, killed. Broken. Now for Sophie. This one is kinda obvious. She has some mental issues and trouble remembering certain traumatic events. Her memory is broken and she is broken by grief and suffering. She also does not react to VERY creepy and violent depictions like a normal stable person would. Those type of people would probably scream and get outta there. Sophie doesn't. She stays. As for Susan, she is missing and probably killed (broken). Charles I don't know. We don't know much about Charles other than he is missing, probably dead and probably possessing Boozoo. Still broken, but it could be deeper than that. This can be tied into how humans are imperfect and someone (or something) is trying to make them beautiful. But I predict that it will be in vain. For nothing. You can't fix humans like you can with a robot. We are more complicated than that. We don't have an off and on switch. We will never be perfect. Thank you for listening to my TedTalk. P.S. I could be missing something here. I am not perfect... In all seriousness though, if anyone spent the time to read my comment and think about it, tell me if I am missing anything. Mat, love your videos and shout out to your family!
Great post! I think with Charles, if Boozoo's Ghosts is anything to go off of, was broken because he was greedy. Other than that I don't really have much to add. I like your comment.
A theory say that jack was killed by the mafia or Frank on the restaurant and put in Bon possessing him and trying to make all waltens beautiful, and Charles was a worker at the restaurant which was killed and stuffed on boozoo. I think Frank and Jack had problems with wrong people on their stabilishment and had problems with them, or when Jack knew what happened to his kids Frank either killed him or asked the mafia to do that on the restaurant for him
Ooh thank you I didn't notice that. I did notice something though at 52:50 the dark shadowy figure appeared right before the scene change in case you didn't catch it
I remember I first started watching the Walten Files series with my brother just as I was beginning to go to college for Digital Media Production. The biggest thing that kept me from getting freaked out or scared at the visuals and concepts of the series was observing how the videos were edited and created to be as terrifying as they are. It's clear that everyone behind this series put a lot of time and care into the series and the results are absolutely spectacular! I really hope my content can reach that kind of quality once I finish this program. ^^
The distorted version of heartaches wasn't anything close to burning memory, it was a wonderful thing by itself that truly represented the blur in which Sophie had to gain from the pills that wasn't complete forgetfulness and regaining of memory
I'm rewatching these, scrolling through the comments, I get to here, and I have no idea what this is about. Either I just haven't reached a point in the video, where it would, make sense. I'm just not getting it. Or there's something else here. I don't even know why I'm commenting this, just, express confusion, and hope you get an answer from my call into the void I suppose.
@@japbstudios i looked through the comments for it. the music I'm referring to is from 36:47 a lot of people in the comments think it's a piece called a burning memory by the caretaker which is from everywhere at the end of time an album based on the phenomenon of dementia. but it's instead a distorted version of its sample heartaches and not a burning memory. What makes the Walten Files so much scarier than Five Nights at Freddy's to me is the voice acting. The panicked breathing, the actual screams of terror and agony just make it so real; instead of just realizing someone got stuffed in a suit, you experience the fear and pain these people have gone through
when matt was talking about the holes made to get into the animatronics I was surprised he never once mentioned the fact that the hole were made to remove the remains of potentially two dead people from Bon and Sha.
Woah, nice insight! Implying that some of the books were written by the killer (or a related party), which would make sense with the theory that one of the owners was responsible
@@nicoleschneider2639 actually if you go back, I’m pretty sure it was a book, it might be a box for a vhs tape, but it was next to another that was a comic, and one that was a fairy tale which implies this is also a book, no real why to tell though
The unlisted video really shook me, not because of the images, but because of the song, Heartaches by Al Bowley. It forever sticks in my mind (thank you, Caretaker) because it's the first song in Everywhere at the End of Time, which is about dementia. It probably symbolizes the fact that Sophie is missing time.
36:57 The music is I believe “Everywhere at the end of time” a six-something hour long song detailing the deterioration of the mind due to dementia. This leads me to believe that Sophie’s medicine is for her dementia. As it seems to be one of the early on, but slightly deteriorated tracks, she’s still sort of in the right mindset to remember.
53:16 the pills Sophie took in lucky you were memory loss pills so she wouldn't remember the traumatic experiences she witnessed when she was a child, but the pills are losing its effect and due to this game hitting to close to home with her past she is starting to remember what happened, which is why that game looked familiar to her. 54:43 the pills are about to completely lose effect on her.
I can't wait for the actual film theory about the Walten files, and when they're playing the video game before they go to the hippos farm the shadow man appears in the back of the restaurant
I remember exactly what i was doing when he uploaded the announcement video that Steph was pregnant- little eighth grade baby me having an aneurysm in the back of the classroom before school- fond memories 😅
The file name "Bnnyfrm.ppx" (See 1:06:56) seems like a pretty crucial detail. If you look up the word "PPX," it comes up with the result of Propoxyphene (PPX), a prescription painkiller. It must be what Sophie is taking from the pill bottle in the video "Lucky You." Notice how Sophie talks and acts, "Bunny Smiles Inc sounds so familiar," and Jenny having to explain the controls so that she "doesn't have a hard time playing later on." Notice how Jenny doesn't say "joystick" or "d-pad" when explaining the controls, she just says "this thing" and "these buttons" instead of "A or B." It's a pretty odd detail to include until you consider PPX's side effects also include confusion and blurred vision. You would think that despite having been related to one of the founders of Bon's Burgers (Jack Walten), she'd know what Bunny Smiles Inc is, until you consider the fact that PPX's side effects affects the brain's functionality as well. I could probably be looking into this too deeply, but it seems too big of a detail to leave out. I also looked up a .ppx file extension, but it didn't align very well with what was being shown on-screen. .ppx file extension: PPX files mostly belong to PingPlotter by Nessoft, LLC. PingPlotter helps you pinpoint where network problems are in a graphical way, and to continue monitoring your connection long-term to further identify issues.

@@oakoasis it’s more easier to call it “it’s just a burning memory” considering the fact eateot is pretty popular and recognizable. we know that eateot is a bunch of sampled old music back then but it’s just better to refer the songs as eateot
@@creamsock8954 Sure, but it's objectively wrong. Eateot is a derivative work, not the original one, and it shouldn't be treated as such, regardless of its popularity. This is especially important considering that the original sample of heartaches was used, and not a sample from eateot. Saying that the song played was "It's just a burning memory" would be the same as saying that a remix of Coldplay's Viva La Vida was actually a remix of it's equally (if not more well known) Minecraft parody, Fallen Kingdom.

@@creamsock8954 A good portion of people will understand that it's derivative, but I'd argue a much smaller fraction of that group knows what the real source material is. Most knowledge regarding the music played extends only to Kirby's work, and dead or not, the true origin of work like this shouldn't be obfuscated by a recent album. Also, sure, they are samples, but how does that matter in any way? A sample is still a part of a distinct work, and shouldn't be discounted because it was snipped out, nor should said sample be mistitled for convenience.

@@fruitysaladx yes, so far we know Rosemary died in July 1974. I don't think people have been able to figure out what day exactly, but it was definitely July because she died at the restaurant when it was still open

Hey so uh if this helps anyone, I’m gonna dump a timeline I made based off TWF community’s theories, as well as solid information we know so far. 1958 - Jack Walten and Felix Kranken both met up during College and become great friends, as well as having plans on starting their own restaurant with electronic performers. 1960-1969 - Jack and Felix form a new company known as Bunny Smiles Inc. and start working on Bon’s Burgers. Felix soon gets married to Linda, and Jack gets married to Rosemary, and soon have there children; Sophie in 1960, Edwin in 1962, and Molly in 1965. Linda also starts to catch on Felix’s alcohol addiction as well. Bunny Smiles Inc, also teams up with Cyberfun Tech to create the animatronics. Christmas, 1970 - Edd and Molly gets a doll named Rocket. May 2, 1974 - Linda breaks away from Felix. Felix also has to drive Edd and Molly to a school party since both Jack and Rose are busy. Felix finds a drinking zone and helps himself. He soon drives Edd and Molly back home in a drunken state, and then crashes the car, killing both the children. Felix, in a panicked state, buries them both in a forest off the road, and goes back home with the Rocket Doll. With Edd and Molly dead, they now posses the doll. June 11, 1974 - Jack Walten was last seen during this date, and soon disappeared. He is presumed dead (and possibly haunts the Bon animatronic) but it hasn’t been solidified yet. June 28, 1974 - Bon’s Burgers officially opens to the public. June 30, 1974 - The first birthday party was held, as well as when Susan Woodings (the main engineer at Bon’s) goes missing. She went to the back rooms to fix Bon after hours, and is later harmed by him, and was stuffed into the Banny animatronic. She later died in the animatronic, possibly from starvation. July 14, 1974 - Charles goes missing. Not much is known about his death, but that he possibly fled from seeing something, and was soon caught by Bon, and stuffed inside the Boozoo animatronic. July 19, 1974 - Rosemary, after weeks of searching for her husband, is led by a mysterious voice to the back rooms, where she was cornered by Bon, and was taken apart. Her corpse was brutally stuffed inside the Sha animatronic. July 20, 1974 - Bon’s Burgers closes due to the missing reports. October 31, 1974 - Bon’s Burgers is officially condemned. January 23, 1975 - The animatronics (and other props) are soon stored into the K9 Storage Facility. 1975 1975 - The Relocate Project begins. 1975-1977 - With the Relocate Project in session, they were other things being produced, like merchandise, cartoons, etc. to keep the company going. July 14, 1978 - Ashley Parks goes missing, and was stuffed into the Billy animatronic. 1978-1979 - The Relocate Project was deemed unsuccessful, and stopped. 1979 - Little Bon’s Neighborhood seemed to have been a show was being produced during this time. October 10, 1982 - Bunny Smiles tries to do another Relocate Project, sending Brian Stells to the K9 Facility. He was later killed in the forest by Bon. October 15-16, 1982 - Footage was recorded of two girlfriends, Sophie and Jenny, playing the Beta version of Bunnyfarm in their hotel. Soon, Sophie is playing alone, having all her traumatic memories of her childhood friends and family come back to her. And that’s it for now. Hopefully this helped some people out. I may update this if I made any errors.
I thought Felix was stuffed inside the Boozoo animatronic. They show his face alongside Boozoo's in Walton Files 3 during the find-the-differences mini game. There's also a theme of Felix feeling immense guilt for the deaths of his Jack's kids and in the “Boozoo's ghosts” video, it shows a recurring theme of Boozoo being guilty for the deaths of his coworkers and him dying with that guilt.
@@stinkerpops what do you mean? The guy shown in Boozoo’s game(s) was clearly a different character. Even if Felix was stuffed inside Boozoo, how would he have started the Relocate Project?
To my knowledge, they did make an actual game engine to use for the gameplay footage, and during Boozoo's mini game the game actually crashed and for just a frame or two you can actually see Martin Wall's Windows 10 desktop, which I *think* Martin has confirmed that that was an accident. I was fairly sure that he actually programmed a game to use for the gameplay footage because of a certain characteristic to the jerkiness of the movement that is something I have seen when prototyping a game engine with a scrolling camera. Also, part of the reason that part 3 took so long to release is because Martin's computer actually crashed on Christmas of 2020 and he lost a lot of assets for the video and had to recreate them.
Little corrections: Chris is not mentioned in Billy’s tape. You mistook Chris with Charles. Although, some Chris was already mentioned by Brian Stells in TWF 1
I think it’s so interesting that the creator implemented EATEOT music, which makes me think that dementia could have some meaning in the story because of course EATEOT is about a person with dementia
The “Safety and pills, Sophie” line and the image of a pill bottle with Sophie’s name on it leads me to believe Sophie was suffering from some kind of illness or disorder that she was taking meds to treat, but eventually forgot to take at some point, and something happened to her because she didn’t take her medication.
the latter makes more sense to me, honestly. the sad old man would be one of the founders and he haunts the other animatronics when it's dark more than it's light
Reminder, since I heard matpat relate this to fnaf a few times: just because this is fnaf inspired, doesn't mean it has the same story. It seems to operate on similar "rules", but the characters, story beats, and motivations are pretty different. There aren't really equivalent characters, like how Matpat called Rocket the puppet stand-in. There's occasional references to other series (like the purple security guard outfit in the previous episode), but that's all they are, references.
I agree to an extent, but isn't Rocket the toy that was possessed by the two Walten kids? granted, that would make Rocket more like Golden Freddy, arguably, because of the two spirits thing, but the puppet was Charlie, who was Afton's first (intentional) victim, so one could argue Rocket is fulfilling a similar role HOWEVER, I am aware I'm just splitting hairs here lol
@@sethescope it's unclear exactly what role rocket serves in the story, but so far the only similarities Rocket has with the Puppet are that Rocket was on strings and the plushie is possessed by kids. It's not even clear if the spirits even left the stuffed animal. But my point was that trying to claim that Rocket is the Puppet equivalent implies that every Walten Files character is just a different version of a FNAF character, which isn't true at all.
@@vsptylore3639 oh, you're absolutely right about that. tbh something that bothers me a lot is when Mat goes TOO hard on the comparisons. a lot of the time here, he seems to just be doing it for the meme, but in a video about a game about an apple farm (I'm too lazy to look up the name), it got to be too much and actually killed my enjoyment of that video. and like I said, I was splitting hairs and not really addressing your actual point because I do agree with it. I do think he's being facetious here, but overall and in general, it's fine to acknowledge "oh hey this is kinda FNAF-y" when the creator has been explicit in saying they were inspired by FNAF or when it's obvious, but sometimes he can overdo it. I think it's a very clear sign of when he needs to do a FNAF detox lol

It's great.

I think he means thematically. Not that the guy should have said it's like the Blair witch, but it reminds Matt more of Blair witch.
Mat, love your videos and shout out to your family!
yeah this is exactly what i took the whole story as, thanks for elaborating :)
Great post! I think with Charles, if Boozoo's Ghosts is anything to go off of, was broken because he was greedy. Other than that I don't really have much to add. I like your comment.
This is a very good theory
sophie wasnt reacting cuz shes on anti-phsychotic pills, and a sideeffect of them is memory loss,or it might be blocked out
A theory say that jack was killed by the mafia or Frank on the restaurant and put in Bon possessing him and trying to make all waltens beautiful, and Charles was a worker at the restaurant which was killed and stuffed on boozoo. I think Frank and Jack had problems with wrong people on their stabilishment and had problems with them, or when Jack knew what happened to his kids Frank either killed him or asked the mafia to do that on the restaurant for him

As it seems to be one of the early on, but slightly deteriorated tracks, she’s still sort of in the right mindset to remember.
no, it's an edited version of heartaches. it notably includes the lyrics which eateot doesn't do in ijabm.
@@ow_ EATEOT is also a large part of TWF soundtrack so the theory still stands

The file name "Bnnyfrm.ppx" (See 1:06:56) seems like a pretty crucial detail. If you look up the word "PPX," it comes up with the result of Propoxyphene (PPX), a prescription painkiller. It must be what Sophie is taking from the pill bottle in the video "Lucky You."
Notice how Sophie talks and acts, "Bunny Smiles Inc sounds so familiar," and Jenny having to explain the controls so that she "doesn't have a hard time playing later on." Notice how Jenny doesn't say "joystick" or "d-pad" when explaining the controls, she just says "this thing" and "these buttons" instead of "A or B." It's a pretty odd detail to include until you consider PPX's side effects also include confusion and blurred vision.

@@undercoverbackup9134 i think everyone knows it’s just all samples. i’m saying it’s just easier to refer the songs from eateot. it’s not rlly bad considering the singers are already dead by now, so if people just wanna say it’s an eateot reference then might as well let them be besides correct them when we all know it’s just samples. it’s just easier to refer it to eateot, no big deal. maybe some may not get it’s just sampled work, but they’ll understand eventually.

Sophie walton means that she is one of the children of jack and rosimary walton. Back in one of the tapes in video 2 it had shaw/chopped up rosimary say "sophie where am I?" That means rosimary was lured back there by her daughters familiar voice and then murdered by bon. Either bon is controlled by sophie or sophie was dead and bon mocked her voice.
No Sophie is still alive in this video after sha died

if u look back to one of the other videos there’s a book that said “why july 4th matters” and that could be referencing an actual date within the timeline cuz we know that july 4th was a day within its opening and closing
Dang I didn't think about that, that's smart.
maybe July 4 is the date Rosemary gets killed? or maybe Charles, because I have a suspicion, based on the Billy tape that Ashley finds, that Charles dies after Susan but before Rosemary because he's listed after Susan but before Rosemary on the list in the tape.
it's also possible that Rosemary dies on the 4th (and Charles just dies earlier).

So hey maybe i am arriving a bit late to the party but i just wanted to say that, I think the first bit on the arcade song could translate to S.O.S.
Like, in morse code i believe a short note is a dot . and long note is a line _
Also in morse code, S would be three dots (...) and O would be three lines (_ _ _) So if you listen closely the very beginning of the arcade game song you would be hearing an SOS message.
Then again i may just be overthinking stuff, who knows.
1975
1975 - The Relocate Project begins.
Thank u for the info, very helpful to know how "interesing" this story rlly is ;-;
But serious tho thnx
You would think they’d suspect something or at least monitor to the repairs but noooooooo
Seems about right is Felix gone?
Sophie’s name was accompanied by a different sound than the others.
@@roisink1635 I think so too
Little corrections: Chris is not mentioned in Billy’s tape. You mistook Chris with Charles. Although, some Chris was already mentioned by Brian Stells in TWF 1

Or could they be antidepressants after a traumatic experience?
my guess has something to do with dementia or a memory related illness, hence the song in the end
Or the pills are used for memory erasure, to make Sophie forget the traumatic stress and experience
"shadow man feeds me when lights go off"? I heard "sad old man sees me when lights go off". I suppose the former makes more sense, though

Matpat: scariest tapes yet
Ollie: I'm about to end this tape's whole career
Reminder, since I heard matpat relate this to fnaf a few times: just because this is fnaf inspired, doesn't mean it has the same story. It seems to operate on similar "rules", but the characters, story beats, and motivations are pretty different. There aren't really equivalent characters, like how Matpat called Rocket the puppet stand-in. There's occasional references to other series (like the purple security guard outfit in the previous episode), but that's all they are, references.
Yeah, this is WAY different than FNaF, this has such a different storyline
I agree to an extent, but isn't Rocket the toy that was possessed by the two Walten kids? granted, that would make Rocket more like Golden Freddy, arguably, because of the two spirits thing, but the puppet was Charlie, who was Afton's first (intentional) victim, so one could argue Rocket is fulfilling a similar role
HOWEVER, I am aware I'm just splitting hairs here lol
