A BIG thanks for the uploader. A juwell to hear him at a not perfect instrument, only to remind us, that great artists don´t need the pianos of 120000 dollars to make real and poetic music
X me è la migliore interpretazione che abbia ascoltato. Semplice, intensa, ogni nota ha un suo valore, nulla di inutile, nulla di scontato. Lascia un segno. Perfetta.
The pianist of the ,20th century and still today unmatched in his interpretations I have a signed programme of one of his London concerts and attended his Chopin brilliant London Barbican concerts quite incredible!!?!
I never understand why some pianists rush through. The tumbling, thoughtful, occasionally lamenting pace that Richter and Chaimovich stick to (each with their own appreciable variations) are what made me fall in love with this piece to begin with. Bravo.
il suo tocco è magnifico, limpido, scuro con dinamiche a dir poco geniali, tratti di piena di emozione, trasporto, mai tralasciando una tecnica, a mio parere divina.il miglior interprete di chopin ,senza ombra di dubbio alcuna.
how have i never heard this song!? chopins nocturnes are the only thing that goes through my mind when i sleep! thank you for the upload, u just inspired a song :D
in lot's of Chopin's Nocturnes, it's meant to feel ad lib. or "at your own liberty" so as that each pianist can add his or her own grace to the piece. Personally when i play this piece, i prefer a darker more intense feeling and so i'll add some speed to the 16th note runs you'll occasionally hear, but back off quite a bit in the mid section of the piece so as to bring the sweetness of the notes out. It's a bittersweet thing that each pianist has.
While I would never say Pollini's performance of this piece is the best I think to say he plays without emotion is a bit harsh. I always thought his performance of this Nocturne was very passionate. Whether you think it should be passionate is a matter of opinion I suppose.
It's hard to get past the terrible sound and obviously technical issues of this piano. I had to deal with many such instruments during my tours, including tuning some and even replacing a string once in a blue moon, but I was never recorded (to my knowledge) on one. I get the impression that Richter wasn't a happy camper here.
Chopin as ecrit Largheto, ce qui devrait etre plus lent. Le son n' est pas beau. Ca manque de flexibilite. Richter n' as jamáis etait un grand intérprete de Chopin. Rubinstein ou Cortot beacoup mieux.
Gilels plays Scarlatti while Richter neglects Scarlatti. Artur Rubinstein said to say someone is the greatest pianist is an unreasonable statement. Horowitz had some technical aspects he could not solve. Simon Barere exceeded Rachmaninov and Hofmann in some ways while Rachmaninov and Hofmann proclaimed each other to be the greatest living pianist of that time. Tausig, Rosenthal, and Godowsky excelled Liszt in certain techniques. Each great pianist has something others don't have but also lack something others have.
stefinlithuania It's good to read about all pianists written by Harold C. Schonberg, David Dubal, and etc. and see how those critics refer to those pianists born for the Golden Era of Piano. However, it's even better to listen to them all, make comparisons, and avoid saying who is the best. Richter is a second generation student of Godowsky via Neuhaus. A good comparison would be compare Richter's recordings of Bach with those of Backhaus, Busoni, Gieseking, Fischer, d'Albert, and Karl Richter... just to mention a few giants before him.
GoodESP Justice I didn't use the word "best". And if "best" is avoidable, maybe "butcher" isn't a good choice as well. You talked about "listening", Richter really has something to tell you.
Richter is always singular. A "must hear" on everything he touches, one of a few artists with that quality
tghiagho u are really REALLY stupid................................ hes not an artist. i rest my case.......
Richter is the one and only whose playing makes me cry. RIP
Perfect, simply perfect! He played this piece since he was 8!
Маэстро, браво!
Such inexpressible magic beauty and charm! Richter makes the piano sound with sweet tenderness and delicacy. Thank you for this....
Richter played this composition by Chopin soft and beautifully 🌼💞🕊

You are right. They don'y mind if Chopin write " larguetto". Not que very good musicians, I will say.
And I think Chopin will say the same.... l

There is not any "ad libitum" indication in this Nocturne. It say Largheto....not Presto.
Or "at majorem gloria mía".
Bravo!!!

Usually I prefer this nocturne played faster. I simply can't figure out what sort of magic Richter uses to make this tempo sound so perfect.

Pollini plays Chopin with the emotions of a toaster oven.
Pollini plays this piece too fast and without emotion.
Mr. Pollini always suffers from emotion deficiency.
Close to perfect interpretation of the notation of the score is my guess

This is good. But Pollini is the best at this piece.
Beautiful playing, unfortunately an indifferent instrument for a pianist of Richter's stature.

Compared with Godowsky, Artur Rubinstein, or Guiomar Novaes, Richter sounds like a butcher ripping off pages of a poetry book.
Richter is probably the most complete piano musician AND personality of the XX century.
Gilels plays Scarlatti while Richter neglects Scarlatti. Artur Rubinstein said to say someone is the greatest pianist is an unreasonable statement.
