  • 1996 was a interesting year. It was the first true dominance of Hendrick Motorsports, with their drivers running 1-2. Jeff Gordon won 10 races, but it was Terry Labonte and his consistency that won him the title. I hope you enjoy the video, and remember to like, comment, and subscribe!

This is such a "what could've been" year for Dale Sr. What a crazy points race they'd have had if he wasn't hurt at Talladega. He wasn't winning at the clip of Gordon but he was darn consistent that year.

It’s interesting to hear the difference in the announcers. Subdued, professional. Nowadays it’s just constant chatter and shouting.

Kind of disappointed you didn’t show dale Jarrett and his crew kissing the bricks at Indy. That’s where that tradition got started.

First win for Dale Jarrett in the Cup Series in that beautiful QC 88 car, his second Daytona 500 victory, his second at Robert Yates, and his first 500 victory in the 88 car, he would win his third in 2000, a good 5 years before Gordon won his third Daytona 500 in 2005.

What a bitter sweet season this was for Jeff Gordon, 10 wins, but missed out on the title by 37 points. Still, kudos to the consistency of Terry Labonte in clinching the title that year through consistency

Jeff dominated the season, Terry was merely there to annoy him, and Dale Jarrett was there to play spoiler that could have happened too.

@@badbooking3221 Jeff did have unreliability that year though, two DNF's in the first 2 races of the year, and later he had another DNF at the Fall race at Charlotte with engine problems and a 12th place finish the race after that and he had it all to do in Atlanta, despite his 10 wins. Terry on the other hand had only one finish outside of the top 20 all year and picked up the two wins he got where he could (Spring North Wilksboro and Fall Charlotte). What's more, it shows how interesting a year long points battle can be, who would come out on top between someone with more wins than anyone else, but inconsistency over the year against someone who had a lack of wins but made up for it with consistency

@@SiVlog1989 I don't see how getting wrecked by Jeremy Mayfield during the Daytona 500 and getting wrecked by a bad block by Mark Martin at Talladega equals 37+ points. Also Jeff finished the fall Charlotte race albeit in 31st.

@@badbooking3221 don't forget that in NASCAR, even if drivers don't actually finish a race on track, they still get classified in a finishing position (Tony Stewart and Kurt Busch at the 2007 Daytona 500, despite crashing out on the spot having led most of the race between them up to then, they ended up sandwiching Kyle Petty in 41st and 43rd respectively and in the Fall Dover race in 1992, the eventual champion at the end of the season, Alan Kulwicki, crashed and didn't reach the chequered flag, but was classified 34th). In other words, as per the beauty of a season long points battle, the better you finish in the aggregate, the higher in the standings you'll be at the end of the season. Terry's average finish of 8.2 shows that his title in 1996 wasn't a fluke, Jeff, in spite of his 10 wins, had an average finish of 9.5

Too many 500 mile races not at Daytona or Talladega
