32:56 Ben realizing the spell goes back to the gy after being escaped was priceless. Great game and great to see Ben figuring out how to storm off, regardless of the misstep in the numebr of storm copies from frantic search
Nice job Ben! I have been gold-fishing my storm deck a lot because it is a very complicated deck, so to do it on camera for the first time is awesome! Good for you! And to all the people complaining about the storm count 0 being wrong, it's okay; the table was dead anyway to commander damage with the rest of his turns, so it really didn't change anything. And now everyone knows to fear Storm, Force of Nature.
Yea I thought the numbers were off, how many frantic searches should he have actually gotten? The storm count was what 2 when he cast it so he gets the original cast and 2 instances of storm that's 4 extra from storm on the original spell and then a copy so 1 original, 4 from the 2 storm triggers and 1 from the copy off twinferno for a total of 6 and not the 12 they landed on?
@@zsorens4570storm (not the creature) copies a spell for each “other” spell cast that turn, so when he cast frantic search with storm count 2 it only creates 2 copies, then twinferno creates 1 additional copy, so he should have the actual frantic search on the stack and then 3 copies, basically 4 instances, copies don’t count towards storm count, also copies with storm don’t trigger storm because they weren’t actually cast
You right CGB but pls stop moving the storm count up before the storm trigger. If storm count is 0 and i cast a spell with storm it copies 0 times not 1 time
32:05 unless im mistaken.. he cant cast it using the freerunning cost, because he isnt just able to cast spells from his graveyard, it grants them the escape ability, with the cost being its mana cost plus exiling 3.. not that it mattered since he had a ton of mana, but so others dont make this mistake too
you are correct. The text on UB is specific about the cost of spells that are cast with UB's effect, so that overrides the ability to use an alternative cost. If you asked a judge they'd tell you which layer these things operate on, but im not a judge so im not sure. I just know you cant cast for alternatives if you're using UB to cast from the yard.
@@HollowdTV I believe it is just as simple as Freerunning is an alternate casting cost and so is the escape given by breach. As escape is the only alt casting cost that can be cast from the GY then it is the alt cost you pay (full mana plus exiling the cards).
Ok, it was fun watching Ben struggling hard to make a win out of Storm storming ultra hard. Also, flashback to CGB asking "are we going to let Storm hit? what's the worst that could happen?" ROFL.
Last night my friend played a totally busted storm deck (which now is banned from our pod). In his final turn he played a sorcery that copied every instant and sorcery in his graveyard so we just gave him the victory rather than trying to resolve 20 different spells in the stack.
At first, I thought I’d get some cool card ideas for the Marvel decks I’m working on. Then Storm happened 😂. Congrats to Ben for popping off first time playing storm!
A guy at my LGS picked up a copy of each foil and non foil. When he learned about the shortage, he offered to sell 1 of each to others at no markup. Was able to pick up Iron Man from him.
says "he's playing storm & we're not gonna help him", immediately starts helping him lol, awesome game guys! Was an amazing storm deck u all played hehe
Watching Ben play storm was like watching my daughter ride a bike. I know she can do it, but as soon as she knows she can do it too, it's heart warming.
If you cast a card with the "Storm" ability when there are no other spells cast during the current turn, the Storm ability will not trigger because there is no "storm count" to create copies of the spell
The storm keyword ability is on CAST. So I'm pretty sure you did the Frantic Search wrong. The Frantic Search was cast. The Twinferno creates a copy. That copy is NOT cast. So the original Frantic Search would storm twice because of Storm (the creature which had double strike giving storm, storm). The storm count was 2 so each storm trigger creates 2 copies. 4 copies. Plus the Twinferno copy. Plus the original. For a total of 6 Frantic Searches on the stack. So at the end the Boltwave with storm 9 would create 11 instances on the stack (leaving Brent at 2 life). The original, the copy from from Sword of Wealth and Power and the 9 storm copies. I'm guessing he probably plays Thousand Year Storm in the deck (I mean it would be silly not to play that card) so remember this if that ever hits the board. You don't get like hundreds of copies of a storm spell with storm count 10 (and instant and sorcery count 10) and Thousand Year on the battlefield. Just like 20. Also any COPIES of spells do not add to your storm count in case you cast multiple spells in a turn with storm. So if you cast for instance a Mind's Desire with storm count 4 you get 5 instances of Mind's Desire but then if you immediately cast a Grapeshot after the Mind's Desire the storm count is only 5 so you only get 6 Grapeshots.
he should have had 14 frantic searches i believe. one original frantic, and one copied frantic, each with "Storm, Storm" from double striking. storm count 3. so each card had its original spell, with two storm counts of 3, so 7 casts per "card".
to explain a little further, if i cast Lightning bolt, with storm count 3, i get 4 lightning bolts. The original, plus 3 copies from storm. If i copied that lightning bolt with twinferno, i'd get another Lightning bolt with storm count 3, The original, plus 3 copies from storm. total 8. hope that makes sense.
@@HollowdTV You're wrong as fuck but ok. Copies of spells are NOT CAST and don't trigger storm if they did literally any card with storm goes infinite immediately b/c storm cards copy spells.
Well I for one love the cgb signature beaver shuffle :) (would totally watch all cgb teach the shuffle in a vid) And we thought cgb taking a few extra turns with gonti’s aether heart was a problem…but wow that was a game

I proxied up all the Marvel SLDs, and I built Storm as THEE Otter & Frogs commander, SO MUCH FUN. Basically prowess otters in standard + bounce frogs from standard mashed into a commander deck.
I won my first game by storming off precombat, using a mana dork enabler (Cryptolith Rite, Enduring Vitality & or Elven Chorus) Had Valley Flood Caller and Stormsplitter, ended up with 16 mega pumped Stormsplitters
I get wanting to be thematic with Storm having storm, but did Wizards not relize that any time that commander hits the table the player will be hated out?
@rozza1996 playing defence all the time gets boring. Ask Tergrid and Orvar players, along with Edgar, Narset, Korvold and a lot of the other high power commanders. Storm is unlikely to see casual play, so a lot of people are going to have to think about that before getting or running the card. Not always a good thing being the center of attention.
@@platinumangel7446 I mean... you're right but yeah this is just how it goes. Storm ends up in the same kind of boat as Yuriko or Tergrid etc where you can say you're going to play it fairly but even fairly it's kinda broken and you're basically guaranteed to get targeted every game. She's just really strong. Play her in higher power games and it's fine. Nothing wrong with her being a more high tier card that's just not super casual friendly tbh. There's a ton of commanders in that category.
Whooooole lotta mistakes in this one, from how the game works to how to just win much much earlier. Still enjoyed watching you guys having fun. Even if it felt like sitting across from someone " I SUMMON POT OF GREED TO DRAW 3 ADDITIONAL CARDS FROM MY DECK"ing

I'm played against storm once and it went pretty much like this, except the storm trigger was on an extra combats spell rather than an extra turns. I know if I am playing against storm I am mulliganing to ensure i have removal.
This is precisely why I chose to build my Storm, Force of Nature deck the way I did. I don’t find the idea of playing Solitaire fun at all, so no extra turns, no extra combats, just Storm, tons of cheap spells, lots of “storm” cards (not cards with storm, but cards that ARE storms or have storms in the artwork) and the ability to win through damage spells, milling an opponent out, or a well timed Crackle with Power.
Ben looks like me when i got my first commander deck. It was a melek deck that would epic experiment for like 40 and that was my intro to magic. Hindsight it was a very poor choice of deck lol
