Hiro hasn’t aged in 20 years lmao. But I’m so happy for them. I know for sure that this show would be good and I will like it. I’m also happy that Hiro-San getting the recognition he deserve he is such an amazing actor and my favorite actor of all time🎉❤

Sanada sama is one of the greatest actors and one of the greatest producers ever. Trying to make everything authentic like it should be! I’m old enough to remember the “old time” actors of color who were “white” but made to look Asian or Native American. This film will so incredible and absolutely beautiful!! 🥰🌹🇯🇵

Yeah, it’s nice to see nihonjins or even nikkeijin in a Japanese themed IP, vs. Tokyo Drift with random Asians or no Asians being cast as the main leads.

For those who don’t know Hiroyuki in his young age,I want you to watch any kind of his movie or tv drama even if you don’t understand Japanese. He was so handsome and his voice was so sexy.

日本の撮影の方式と違うので、映像が新鮮に深く感じる。全く新しい時代劇を見てるようで感動した。
I really really appreciate the way Hollywood produces foreign stories in the past decade or so by having local people speak the actual local language with each other, instead of a heavily-accented English. To me that is a huge plus and makes the stories way more immersive as they are being told.
being humble and yet being confident is what Sanada is.
Sadly many people think these things are mutually exclusive

This show gave me old school samurai movie vibes that i havent felt in a long time. Definitely worth watching it if you havent seen it.

I've always enjoyed the 80s version so hopefully this new version will be just as good and I'm glad Sanada was picked to play Lord Toronaga.
I must say after watching the first 2 episodes, Shogun has me fully invested. The show is full fully detailed its hard to believe. The story has my full attention and impatiently waiting for the next episode 3

Really cool to see someone like Hiroyuki Sanada finally getting some major recognition from his work in John Wick 4 and Shogun. Fun fact: Sanada actually shares a birthday with me (October 12)!

I started watching it and I loved it. It’s a real genuine story to watch and immerse in.
I have finished watching the first two episodes. Really loved it.
Sanada san’s mastery of the sword is well known but at times what is overlooked is his mastery and craft in acting. His training with the RSC and role in King Lear effected his Honorary Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). In all his interviews from the past decades, his virtue of kenkyo or humbleness is evident so talk of acting awards would be moot. However, we admirers of his craft would love to see him be awarded a Golden Globe and someday an Oscar for his contributions to acting.
Such a fantastic series! Hiro, who is awesome in everything he does, really crushed it in this piece! As did Anna! Beautiful series. Wonderful storytelling. Truly a masterpiece!
Every scene you feel like you are there. Unbelievably done from cast to wardrobe to scenery. Excellent show.

Hopefully he gets an Emmy for his role in this series. Idk if Hollywood will ever cast him in a lead role, Hollywood doesn't seem to cast Asians for lead roles, but if anything, hopefully he can get "Best Supporting Actor" for an Oscar someday. There are some really talented Asian Actors out there, Hollywood just needs to start casting them in lead roles. Hiroyuki Sanada, Steven Yeun, Charles Melton, etc.

@@madtitan0825 The only thing is, it's still very early in the year. Still 10 months left to go, so there could be many other great candidates. Also, it's only been 2 episodes of Shogun, his character could get killed off in the next episode, highly unlikely but possible. Lol

Sanada insisted hire real Japanese actors for the Japanese roles, so that we don’t hear funny Japanese when they are speaking Japanese and they have the Japanese manners. And because of that you see the real Shogun battle in the film and so worth to watch it!!

This guy is such an amazing actor and in countless great movies: Sunshine, 47 Ronin, Shogun, John Wick, The Last Samurai.........the list just goes on and on.
Shogun is profound in story, locale/set, atmosphere, score, script and above all, acting. SO many incredible performances, episode after episode including and especially Sawai and Sanada, above. Seriously if you have not checked this series out, you're missing something amazing. I would also be remiss to not give huge props to Tadanobu Asano and his performance as the likeable and yet very complex Kashigi Yabushige; survivalist, pragmatist and a tense but light-hearted balance of "regular" person evolving a deep loyalty as time passes. Great show!!

One host said it's so much action. And honestly it's not that much when you think of it. It's mainly intense conversations which makes it so much more scary when the action kicks in. Great frickin series!

In the series, Toranaga looked like he was going to kill himself half the time. There was constant planning behind that expression, and he was part of that plan, deceiving his opponent and his friends. He pretended to be weak. As he began to win, the real Toranaga emerged - full of power, pride, confidence, and even a lack of mercy. Amazing acting. I saw two internally different Hiroyuki Sanda.
When I heard that Shogun was being made,I crossed my fingers that Sanadasan was involved. Just started watching. It's gorgeous and epic. A fantastic production.

I didn't think I'd like it as much as I do! Great program and now I'm dying to see episode 5!
When I first heard about it, I was all "What? Why?" Then I saw Sanada-san attached to it, and I decided, "I will watch it." But without being committed to either liking or hating it.
The first miniseries got me incredibly interested in Japan as a boy, and it's an interest I still hold. What this series has done has gone far beyond that. To know that he was a producer and a huge driving force behind the project...it just floors me and explains without further words the reason it's such a gorgeous and authentic production. And why not waiting and bingeing is coming back to haunt me, because I have to wait for the next episodes.
