  • Metabolic syndrome puts individuals at higher risk for cardiovascular disease, but nutrition, exercise and lifestyle changes can help. Watch this video for tips to lower your risk.
Have you heard of metabolic syndrome? Many people haven't, but it's a critical health issue we're trying to address in our community through prevention and wellness education.
Metabolic syndrome is a serious health condition that puts people at higher risk of heart disease, diabetes and stroke. It's diagnosed when a person has three or more of these factors: High blood sugar, low levels of HDL or “good” cholesterol in the blood, high levels of triglycerides in the blood, large waist circumference and high blood pressure. Doctors recommend adding nutritious foods your diet, moving more and talking to your doctor about high blood pressure if you might be at risk for metabolic syndrome.
