The act starts before he gets to the stage - the shuffling, clumsy walk to the stage carrying his briefcase and - importantly - a lantern. His act goes far beyond a carefully honed singing talent - throughout every one of his performances I see the traditions of the art of the mime, in this case the tradition of the sad-face clown who holds a mirror to our suffering, and shows the tragic side of even our greatest joys. This man is a genius.
Allan Widner In my opinion he is one of the most underrated artist that has ever been on any “Got Talent” Competition and agreed he is undoubtedly a genius his whole persona (act) is spot on; he is a true artist and his voice is phenomenal.

PrincetonTV, Sir/Madam , your insight and poetry is so sorely needed, mostly lacking and truly appreciated by some of us. If you are so inclined, please post more comments. You would be enriching Puddles' life and ours. Thank you.
I am not all that literate, or colorful in my writing (I am lucky to get the spelling right). I fear that my description falls short. Puddles appearances on America Got Talent was so A#1 that I don't have the words. We can only hope that Puddles gets that exposure that his act and voice deserve. This week my first Argentine Tango went on tour to teach the angles to dance. While my teacher went home for Hospice, she insisted they have the weekly dance. And as she got ready to take her 'Flight", her student and friends danced and cried just in the next room. What a beautiful to leave this plain. Puddles has that quality. Sharing our sadness while filling our hearts with joy and uplifting us. You can simply thank Puddles for anything I might write. He is the inspiration.
Hello PrincetonTV, Thank you for sharing your perspective and I'm sure Puddles would be very moved by your heartfelt words and unique insight. Many are touched by Puddles' music but too few express their reaction in such a moving way. This depth of comment is too rare and I really appreciate it. I also hope that Puddles gets the exposure that he deserves and he obviously has and is working very hard to help that happen. His unique performances touch many of us in a powerful way and that's lucky for us. For some, who have more recently been impacted by various kinds of loss and grief, his vulnerability mixed with the power, beauty and coherency of his voice and message, are so comforting during a time when we're experiencing our own vulnerability especially strongly. Be well.
It's so wierd to see puddles out of his makeup, even briefly, but it reminds you that he's a person playing a character and to that I give my respect. It's hard to imagine you as anything but puddles good sir.
Actually I think puddles is the real him, and him being out of puddles is the act. It is sometimes like that with people who use costumes. not saying anything bad about this man whatsoever, I 100% respect him and the fact that he makes so many people feel good emotionally speaks volumes. But look at what happened to Jared Leto as the joker in Suicide Squad and Heath Ledger... Sometime the character literally becomes you.
@@alfredharrison597 Your story reminded me of one I heard about Elvis Presley a while back. It seems that Elvis and one of the regular Vegas opening acts (who's name I can't recall at the moment) had become close friends over the years and Elvis had invited him to his dressing room to hang out before a show one evening, When it came time to head backstage, this guy walked along continuing their conversation. Elvis took his place for the beginning and, as it was described, he was still "my buddy Elvis" but as the moment came closer and Elvis was about to make his entrance, he said the strangest thing happened. Somehow, the friend said, "one second I was standing there talking to my good friend Elvis and suddenly, as the music picked up, I found myself looking at ELVIS PRESLEY! " He said it was nothing you could really put your finger on but the transformation was complete
We have all heard this song a million times. There are so many covers and so many versions. But each time I watch this video, I feel like I'm hearing it for the first time. It takes the exaggerated sad clown to truly bring out the emotion in this song. You can feel the grief felt, and the vulnerability of Puddles as a performer interspersed with him applying his makeup is hauntingly beautiful.
Wouldn't it be amazing if someone would do a vid with him and Leonard Cohen doing this together. I know in this day of vids and art and all it could be done wish it would be I think it would be amazing......
I hope the man who plays Puddles knows how much he’s loved by what he does. His singing is beautiful, really makes you feel the music. It’s like he reaches into your heart and touches it. Absolutely stunning performance. ❤ Puddles reminds me everyday it’s a human thing and it’s okay to be sad. It’s alright to feel that way and sometimes a good cry can let everything out. Thank you Puddles. ❤
+Dean Webb I'm horribly terrified of clowns as well. My friends once had me meet "Ouchie the Clown" (Look it up), and I thought that was it for me. I saw Puddles perform in Hollywood last year, and he's the only clown (albeit Italian Operatic) that I am not afraid of. Puddles is an exceptionally talented performer!
I almost wrecked my car once. I was a little late for work in DC traffic. As I glanced around the scenery, I saw THE most terrifying bumpersticker "I💗 (a clown head slightly tilted to the side)". The longer I was forced to sit behind a car with such a bumpersticker, more and more infuriated I became. When I was finally able to pass that vehicle, I sped up to pass vehicle...in my mind all I could think, "what type of person would, not only admit to loving clowns, but PROCLAIM the fact for all to see. My lane was finally speeding up some as the lane with the 'car'....FOUR CLOWNS seated in the car. Omg lmfao!! With my mouth agape and me staring hatefully, I had to slam my breaks on as the cars ahead of me had slowed or almost stopped. 8am on a Friday...ruined my day. Hahaha this clown, I'm gonna force myself to ask for a photo with him. 😬 hahahaha
I keep coming back to this over and over. I love his voice so much, and I love this video. So much emotion both in his voice and in the video...love love love.
+Fenreya Thanks, and I know what you mean. I regularly dig it up and watch it again too. Something about it resonates deeply with the human condition. So glad you enjoy it as well.
There are videos of him without the paint & he’s not a normally sad dude. I’m sure he has pain deep within that he brings out for his act. Or.. music makes him sad
What I love about Puddles is that if he were any less of a singer, this act would collapse in upon itself. But he's so bloody good that it not only works, but is sublime.
Look at the movie BASQUIAT. Very interesting movie about a major black artist (Haitian/Puerto Rican) who overdosed on heroin at the age of 27. That song is performed, as well as other great songs.
Whenever I hear this man sing, I can't help but I cry a little. You can hear the emotion behind his voice and how beautifully it blends with the melody of the song.
I was at the second show that night and was blown away. The recording doesn't completely capture the depth of sound. it's like watching a sunset vs seeing it in a picture. Such an amazing experience.
I totally agree! It's a shame he hasn't achieved big fame. There are a lot of very wealthy and very famous people out there that are literally devoid of talent and here this guy is, VERY talented, genuinely deserves the fame and fortune...I hope he one day makes it big!
This guy is amazing. I’m a grieving veteran already mourning the upcoming loss of my service/companion dog and just finding this channel is a lifesaver. He starts low and seems to identify where you are at but pulls you in for a smile, a laugh or a sing even leaving you feeling a bit better than just minutes before. This guy would probably done quite well in the courts of middle aged Europe. A master at his profession.
I saw puddles show live back a few years at Florida supercon. He evokes so many emotions from you throughout his performance. There's laughter sadness joy excitement and everything in between. Puddles if you ever read this know that you moved me with your amazing performance. You are the definition of what it means to be an entertainer, all the sacrifice and effort you put in really shows. All i can say is thank you.
The power of Pathos...the art of Chaplin so powerfully delivered by Puddles....an artist to be admired and importantly seen live...as I did with my wife at theMelbourne Comedy Festival in 2015....his performance lifted us both at a time of family trauma.

I am incrediblly stunned right this moment. I came across this man as I was watching AGT vids and dared myself to watch his audition. I'm sooo elated right now...I can hardly type! Let me explain; I have suffered since childhood from coulrophobia, "fear of clowns". It has been quite sever as I'm not able to go to birthday or coustume parties if a clown will be there. I cant take my kids to the circus and up until Mcdonald's all but dropped their clown mascot I couldn't even go get a burger from there. I experience great anxiety and panic attacks and even fainted once when a clown came too close. But this man....THIS clown....he's different. His face is gentle and voice reassuring. Unbelievably, the more I watched the calmer I became until eventually I was utterly captivated. Mr. Puddles Pity Party, if you're reading these post, you may very well have cured my phobia! Thank you and God bless you. I will continue to follow your performances. You have positively eased my fears.
I'm not saying that his version isn't good but have you heard the cover by Symphony & Choir and the 16 years old McKenna Breinholt ? I think you may enjoy it as well :)
an amazing cover making Leonard proud im certain even the emotions come thru despite the make-up... or perhaps because of it? thank you to all involved
This guy is an absolute genius! This video reminds me of old videos of Klaus Nomi, which also showed scenes of Klaus applying his makeup offstage. He was also an absolute legend! To Klause! To Puddles!
Im glad Puddles went on AGT. I would have never known about him otherwise. He sings several songs i dont even like very much, but he makes the song worth listening to. I'll buy his albums.
This is the most beautiful and Incendiary version of this song I’ve ever heard. Absolutely nailed the true emotion behind this song. Down to every body movement and facial expression. Genius performer
During the “Tower of Song: A Memorial Tribute to Leonard Cohen” from 2018 singer K.D. Lang did this song and she was absolutely amazing. You might be able to find it on UA-cam. I do agree Puddles is awesome as well. I think Leonard would’ve loved it.
How dare you.... How dare you to cover my favorite song and make it so damn perfect!... I always almost cry when I hear this song but not this time... this time I actually cried. You're the only singer in this universe who made me cry so many times. And I love it! Thank you...
Rhysand's, he's all of us; we want to win. He reminds of all the sad things in our past (and present) and then just like the sun rises in the mornig, he starts to sing with that beautiful voice! Love the drama of his Puddles persona!
Ok it took me 5 minutes to even respond to this ... hate when songs shake me up and even draw tears . I kind of like the fact there are cheers and background noise. It filters out the fakes . This is pure voice I was familiar with his PMJ stuff which is phenomenal but this performance makes me want to learn how to sing and zing properly . He needs to be up at the Michael Buble level.
Naturally, the song and singer are great, but what really grabbed me were the glimpses of Puddles's meticulous ways of applying and gearing up. I really love seeing dedication to a craft.
I was floored when you showed up on the AGT stage. I was yelling to the family, IT'S PUDDLES!! Couldn't believe the judges and audience were clueless. Good luck Puddles!
If you haven't see it, check out his songs with Postmodern Jukebox. Puddles singing to pre-recorded music is good. Puddles singing with a live band and backing singers will put your jaw on the floor.
Throughout our life we hear songs that we figure that there are only a few people that can sing them. This is one of those songs and he is one of those singers. When a performance gives you goosebumps you know that the performance is the real deal. Absolutely brilliant.
This man has a classic opera voice! I discern that his disappointments in life combined with extreme criticisms and being misunderstood that he channeled it into his projection of the joy of life and touching others souls. Essentially, he's a "wounded warrior" with deep seated love!
I could NEVER foresee a point in time that i might not wish to quietly sit here & happily shed a few tears watching this AMAZING performer tackle such a BRILLIANT tune that easily stands HIGH on it's own merits & smile so very much as 'He' kicks it up several more notches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ♥ Ya Puddles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When he came to lake charles he crawled under the chairs and ate wads of gum after sessions. He has an odd performance that not a whole lot of people "get". I personally love sad clowns, and the emotion he puts in it makes you feel
“The common eye sees only the outside of things, and judges by that, but the seeing eye pierces through and reads the heart and the soul.” ― Mark Twain
By far my favorite rendition. So many versions of this song concentrate on the "hallelujah" refrain and the verses become merely melodic filler. Puddles reverses that, giving the story a heart-felt interpretation, placing the refrain in it's proper context as punctuation to the story.
I owe you an opologie Puddles. The first time I watched one of your vids on you tube I posted a comment that wasn't very nice. It was a joke about two cannibals eating a clown. It was all I posted without even saying how darn good you are at singing and acting and for that, i am sincerely sorry because after hearing you do this song you are absolutely one of the best. Lungs, you got em along with pure talent. Thank you
I am a Leonard Cohen fanatic and have seen every other rendition of this song and this one is now in the top two. The first place being occupied by K.D. Lang's version in which Leonard himself appears in the audience of the Canadian Music Awards. I also enjoyed and rate as number 1 the cinematography of this video. Congratulations. He has a beautiful voice and persona.
MAGNIFICENT!! ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICENT!! My favorite rendition of that song! What passion, what meaning, what deliverance, what beauty! Love you Puddles!!
Im actually kinda curious as to the man behind the act. What inspired him to be the tragic clown figure we all know and love? Its fascinating. I mean, we all know he can bellow out a tune but he makes it unique with the sad clown act and i admire that
I absolutely love this! I can definitely connect with Puddles.. I just want to watch this over and over and over again.. I love Halleujah and I just don't hear the song when Puddles sings, I feel it.. I literally got chills! I hope everyone has a Blessed day and God touches each and everyone of your lives in ways you could never imagine.. You are never alone! Have a great day everyone and God Bless!!
knocks me on my ass every time I see this performance artist with the flawless voice and delivery. always in character. John Lennon would have loved this

Life Of Vee this is so nice omg
Agree
so happy for you life of vee. he is fabulous!
This is actually the best version of the song I heard so far.
Its the emotion that he puts into it that makes it so good.
I like it better than Bon Jovi's and that's saying a heck of a lot!
I'm not saying that his version isn't good but have you heard the cover by Symphony & Choir and the 16 years old McKenna Breinholt ? I think you may enjoy it as well :)
+Sélène Hq this was just one guy with a mic..... he killed it.
Sélène Hq
an amazing cover making Leonard proud im certain
even the emotions come thru despite the make-up...
or perhaps because of it?
thank you to all involved
This guy is an absolute genius! This video reminds me of old videos of Klaus Nomi, which also showed scenes of Klaus applying his makeup offstage. He was also an absolute legend! To Klause! To Puddles!
Damn!
Puddles, every song I hear you sing, I think is better than the original.
Brilliant.
Such a freakin fact
You have obviously grown up in the world of sanitised x factor bullshit.
RicTic66 ~ nope just shitty music elsewhere.
Though, I recently found Glorious Sons and Greta Van Fleet
Quite awesome
@@RicTic66 hello fellow karen
The clown act just makes his voice pop out. No one is expecting it.
This is the first time that I've actually heard the rest of the words. Not just hallelujah over and over. Thank you Puddles
Wow ! So hauntingly beautiful Puddles you are blessed with some very Mad talent ..You"re Awesome !❤
he sounds like crap
Im glad Puddles went on AGT. I would have never known about him otherwise. He sings several songs i dont even like very much, but he makes the song worth listening to. I'll buy his albums.
Bigg X m
Bigg X Agreed he may not have won but he's given lots of joy to people who would have not known about him otherwise.
True Story!!
Watch his performances with postmodern jukebox. They're fantastic and that's where I learned of this treasure
Yet another amazing performance from Puddles
he's amazing but the clown costume really creeps me out......
I love Puddles... his version of that Lorde song is really neat. .. Big Mike.. I think is the other name he goes by
Sandra Parlow so the next time you are in town a clown party is out of the question?
Rob Elliott this guy kicks ass
Clowns are creepy to me. No thanks! Lol!
Sandra Parlow
That makes 2 of us yaap me too its to creepy for me ..
This is the most beautiful and Incendiary version of this song I’ve ever heard. Absolutely nailed the true emotion behind this song. Down to every body movement and facial expression. Genius performer
Not since Leonard Cohen have I heard such a beautiful version of "Hallelujah" !
Puddles you rock!
Thank you...
chill greta
@@SR-ql9he i just kidding :D
for some reason I really want this guy to make it
Rhysand's, he's all of us; we want to win. He reminds of all the sad things in our past (and present) and then just like the sun rises in the mornig, he starts to sing with that beautiful voice! Love the drama of his Puddles persona!
He kind of is making it. : )
Harry Clams he's married
Ok it took me 5 minutes to even respond to this ... hate when songs shake me up and even draw tears . I kind of like the fact there are cheers and background noise. It filters out the fakes . This is pure voice I was familiar with his PMJ stuff which is phenomenal but this performance makes me want to learn how to sing and zing properly . He needs to be up at the Michael Buble level.
Songs that shake you up and make you shed tears should be your favorite... They touch your soul.
I love that he has rainbow suspenders under his smock. That, ladies and gentlemen, is what you call commitment to the bit.
Best cover of this Cohen classic ever!
This guy is great. Thank you Mike for your creativity!!
If you haven't see it, check out his songs with Postmodern Jukebox. Puddles singing to pre-recorded music is good. Puddles singing with a live band and backing singers will put your jaw on the floor.
Jeez..
Throughout our life we hear songs that we figure that there are only a few people that can sing them.
This is one of those songs and he is one of those singers.
When a performance gives you goosebumps you know that the performance is the real deal.
Absolutely brilliant.
Absolutely amazing. Well done.
Thanks Robert (and everyone else who's enjoyed this). It was a blast to make.
Rob- I liked it too!
This man has a classic opera voice! I discern that his disappointments in life combined with extreme criticisms and being misunderstood that he channeled it into his projection of the joy of life and touching others souls. Essentially, he's a "wounded warrior" with deep seated love!
My new favorite version.
It's fucking awesome
I second that motion! (My other fav version is K.D.Lang from the JUNO Awards)
Pain of Salvation version is great also
Mr Cohen would be so proud of this version Sir.... Awesome arrangement.... Incredible voice you have.
God it really has been 9 years since this absolute beauty of a cover came out?
Whatever drove him to create "Puddles" I pray God is healing his heart. Clearly he is on his way back from a very painful time in his life. ❤
it is a performance .-.
He is here to heal us
@@DankHunt420 LOL!!!
@@cloudyxsxies583 That's what you think
I love how in every video when Puddles goes somewhere to sing in public everyone makes fun of him until he starts to sing..
RedHead Productions same, it makes my cry a little when they make fun of him, but when he starts singing he doesn't fail to impress the crowd
The definition of the human condition
it's called judging a book by it's cover. My wife once told me don't laugh just look.
@@mariah3053 well,he is a clown,also he did joke sometimes
When he came to lake charles he crawled under the chairs and ate wads of gum after sessions. He has an odd performance that not a whole lot of people "get". I personally love sad clowns, and the emotion he puts in it makes you feel
THIS IS AN ARTIST. Not what you see on TV
“The common eye sees only the outside of things, and judges by that, but the seeing eye pierces through and reads the heart and the soul.”
― Mark Twain
I love this clown.
***** me too.... his voice is incredile... also his performance, the "sad clown"... is very emotional.
Me to he is the best one time I want to see him cus I'm a kid
he's great !
Go and marry him
verissimo!
This was so beautiful. I've never heard it this song with such emotion
Facts
Why am i only allowed to like this video once, i feel like it deserves a million more from me alone
Love and respect. You beautiful talented man.
Damn. This man is amazing. His voice is profound, the imagery provokes so many emotions. Wow.
By far my favorite rendition. So many versions of this song concentrate on the "hallelujah" refrain and the verses become merely melodic filler. Puddles reverses that, giving the story a heart-felt interpretation, placing the refrain in it's proper context as punctuation to the story.
Hallelujah, what a great comment.
Jeff Buckley's version on the album 'Grace'.
Thank you
I need to watch this every day............I NEED to. So powerful. Thank you.
Puddles is a SENSATIONAL performer; I appreciate his talent and love watching his videos.
I was watching this video imbedded on another site, popped over to see who did the cinematography -- nice work -- really fits the rendition.
+Steven Kritzer Thanks for enjoying it... the project was a blast to make.
+Gary Yost he,s a true heart warming soul ....and yes i have a cry cap
I am a Leonard Cohen fanatic and have seen every other rendition of this song and this one is now in the top two. The first place being occupied by K.D. Lang's version in which Leonard himself appears in the audience of the Canadian Music Awards. I also enjoyed and rate as number 1 the cinematography of this video. Congratulations. He has a beautiful voice and persona.
i know and deffo feel your answer
yuh. KD lang does an amazing job...
What a beautiful rendition of this classic song. Loved it.
Outstanding. The clarity and projection of his voice are spot on.
Damn what a voice! My goodness this man is more talented then anything on the radio in the past 10 years, hell 20! Keep up the great work!
YES!!!! I'm so glad he did this song!!!! Love Leonard Cohen, love Puddles Pity Party. Incredible performance.
Awesome-- Leonard would be proud of that rendition
MAGNIFICENT!! ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICENT!! My favorite rendition of that song! What passion, what meaning, what deliverance, what beauty! Love you Puddles!!
There is just something so pure in his performances. Such multi-faceted talent. Truly enjoyable to experience.
OMG it soooooooooooooo good...What an awesome talent. Hope he wins 2017 AGT...He deserves it.
Uncle Dinky amen.
I was hoping he'd go all the way, but when Darci Lynn hit the stage it was game over.
He doesn’t do it for fame, he does it because he really feels it.
I started to watch a video on who he really is... but stopped immediately. Like Simon Cowell said, "I don't ever want to know who you really are."
Interesting... I'll have to think about that. Thanks.
Im actually kinda curious as to the man behind the act. What inspired him to be the tragic clown figure we all know and love? Its fascinating. I mean, we all know he can bellow out a tune but he makes it unique with the sad clown act and i admire that
Have been following him for years. So happy to see his star is rising!
👍👍👍👍👍
What’s the video called?
I absolutely love this! I can definitely connect with Puddles.. I just want to watch this over and over and over again.. I love Halleujah and I just don't hear the song when Puddles sings, I feel it.. I literally got chills! I hope everyone has a Blessed day and God touches each and everyone of your lives in ways you could never imagine.. You are never alone! Have a great day everyone and God Bless!!
knocks me on my ass every time I see this performance artist with the flawless voice and delivery. always in character. John Lennon would have loved this
His version of Sound Of Silence is the best I've ever heard. Now, I'm adding this to that list. He is absolutely amazing.
Makes me cry every damn time. Puddles has opened my heart. I have a fear of clowns, but this is a man I want to meet, in and out of costume.
