Traveled extensively through Israel and the West Bank. Lived amidst Jews and Arabs. Even saw Jimmy Carter and Anwar Sadat Motorcade at the height of the Camp David Peace Accords. The situation in Gaza is horrific. Imagine if UN Resolution 242 had been adopted in 1948. Then, as now, only a two-state solution could bring an end to warfare.

Most of East Europe recognized a soverign Palestinan statehood already in 1988. Sweden did so 10 years ago. I don't know why Democracy Now reported them as the first ................

I lived in Belfast for 9 months in 2006-207. In the Protestant neighborhoods, I saw potraits of the Royals and Israeli flags. In the Catholic neighborhoods, I saw potarits of Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela and Palestinian flags. Irish Catholics well understand the suffering of the Palestinians. All countries must recognize an independent Palestinian state and recall their ambassidors from Israel if it doesn't cease the genocide in Gaza! Free Palestine NOW! BDS YES!

Biden can't do that because under the ICC, he would be at risk of arrest. That's the reason the U.S. hasn't signed onto the Rome Accord -- if it did all U.S. Presidents since Carter would be charged (posthumously or not) with war crimes, and they know this well.

European countries that did already recognize Palestine🇵🇸🍉 as a state are:
Bulgaria, Cyprus, Chechia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Sweden.
Most of them did so in 1988 (former "Eastern Bloc" countries), Sweden in 2014 being the first EU member.

Thank you, I was looking for this comment. I thought I was going crazy. My country, Sweden are very progressive and we made a bold move in 2014. Politicians pushing for the recognition in the left-wing coalition recieved death threats.
Today we have a right-wing government, 2023-10-18 one politician sent in a motion to the Swedish Parilament to withdraw the recognition. Thankfully the government respected the 2014 decition but called the recognition "premature".
