So they started associating right wing with nationalism which isn't what right and left wing ment before ww2. They both had their bogeymen, for communism it was the bourgeoisie for Nazism it was the Jews who were one of the few community's prospering after ww1.

While the communists were (entirely unsuccessfully) trying to divide power between the workers, Nazism had it concentrated into a more inherently hierarchical structure closer to standard fascism than communism. The businesses were state owned, but they were still businesses, and the leaders were still out to generate capital. Communism was also atheist, whereas Nazism very much lacked that as a tenet. While they were both heavily focused on the state, communism was both economically and socially more left wing than Nazism, which was both moderately right wing in regards to economics and heavily so regarding social politics.
