    "Breaking Bad is the product of fear: The fear that European man dispossessed of his birth right and robbed of his future has nothing left to lose. The fear that he will cast off the false moral code that is slowly killing him. The fear that the primal force within him that once conquered the world might still, somewhere, be stirring."

      @@seanisnotjohn Clearly you’re lacking the intellect to understand Breaking Bad’s allegory. Obviously Walter White isn’t meant to be a medieval knight or frontiersman. In society today, there is zero opportunity for the White man to be a hero, other than sacrificing his self-respect via being a gelded, self-hating, male feminist liberal. Walter rejects the idea of dying in a whimper. Instead, opting for one last shot at success. He is a product of modernity who finally takes agency. The success that he achieves ultimately leads to his (inevitable) destruction. This is the case for the modern White man. Our only chance at survival and success is through brute force.

    The Gretchen character, as her name suggests, is supposed to be a White Germanic woman. The point of that subplot is to have the White woman get taken by the male Jew, further emasculating Walter. It doesn't matter if the actress is a Jew, her character is esoterically White.

    Good video. You're no doubt right about many of the themes, but Breaking Bad is more messy/confused than other anti-white media you've covered. For one, I never got the impression that Walter regretted his empire and him creating it in the first place. He regrets getting caught, he regrets Hank dying, he regrets his family hating him, and perhaps he's iffy about some other things he did (like killing Gale), but he doesn't seem to regret his empire and power it afforded him. He affirms this to Skyler in their last conversation, telling her that he liked doing what he did and that he was good at it. In his last moments he wanders the lab seeming genuinely proud of his life's work.
    When he comes back home from his exile, he first intimidates the tribe into making sure his progeny receives their inheritance. His coming back to square off the with the Neo-Nazis is not the usual redemptive white man self-sacrifice because it's colored by the fact that he wants vengeance against them for killing a member of his family against his will (Hank), and also by the fact that he's dying anyway (and also on the run). He also ends up being able to free his surrogate white son from them. I personally thought that the last half of the last season was the weakest part of the show, but I was genuinely surprised when they didn't make Walter some sniveling loser begging for forgiveness. Ultimately, he affirms his own existence with pride, which is very rare and deserves some praise.
    Of course, this doesn't justify the other anti-white stuff in the show, like making the "White's" empire an exploitative and criminal one that causes suffering to everyone around him and alienates him from his family, that's really on the NOSE. Still, for whatever reason Breaking Bad doesn't seem as hopelessly cucked as some of the other examples you covered.

    You argue that the purpose of BB is to induce us to give up the fight against decline and death, though Walt does ultimately blackmail the Schwartz's into being part of his plan and get $10 million to his children. One could also argue that Scarface is a critique of unchecked ambition, though this is apparently one of the most well-liked films among Africans and Hispanics in America, who seem to take from it that it's better to live a day as a criminal lion than a hundred years as a law-abiding sheep. "The world is yours" becomes a rallying cry rather than a warning.
    But Breaking Bad is without a doubt highly individualistic and morally corrosive. Aside from its glamorisation of drug dealing and using, even if Walt's rebellion is ultimately justified in his own terms by self-interest (and thus attractive to many), it's not justified according to the collective good.

    Your point about The Shining applies equally to Breaking Bad: “The purpose was to make every white child see Jack Torrance in his father, every white woman see JT in her husband, every white man see JT in himself.”
    My father is a classic example of this. From my first time viewing the show I recognised that after a few episodes, Walt was the villain. I enjoyed the performance and his enemies were as bad or worse but he was clearly a bad guy. But my father has always defended Walter White, never admitting even once as far as I recall that he was extremely selfish and ego-driven to the point of being willing to risk destroying his family.
    The effect of this is to make the implicit connection between my father’s bad behaviour and Walt’s explicit: not only does the show indirectly demonise my father, he demonises himself by identifying with the toxic villain protagonist and passionately defending his actions.
    I imagine that many women saw Walt in their husbands, especially when their husbands defended him and repeated his self-serving lies about “doing it for the family”. This dynamic is a major part of the subversion of the show.

      Marie is very materialistic, vain and self-centered so her not having children is partly a commentary on that. It also suggests that Hank doesn't wear the trousers in the relationship (assuming he wants children himself: he may be like Marie in that respect) and perhaps that he is not really potent or internally virile (unlike Walt, who starts the show lacking external virility but more quickly adapts to a world of violence than Hank can). Even the macho cop is emasculated.

    I’m still unsure about this particular show. While it is overrated on a quality basis, respectfully, some of the arguments in this video are a stretch (“Negra Arroyo Lane” being a symbol for demographic change, that’s a reach imo.) but the fact that the show is very possibly inspired by Falling Down (very explicit anti-white demoralization prop) cannot be unnoticed. Even if Gilligan was not conscious about what he was doing when taking inspiration from Falling Down, being inspired by that film atleast indicates very strongly that this movie was subliminally inspired by anti-white propaganda.
    However, Falling Down is very, very explicit about Michael Douglas being alienated by an anti-white society and racial conflict, whereas Walter White is less alienated by that explicitly. The Grey Matter storyline is the closest it gets to Falling Down levels of explicit racial/ethnic allegories from my memory. Perhaps this just means the writers of BB were better and more subtle than "Batman & Robin" director Joel Schumacher or maybe they don't have the same leftist/antiwhite agenda that the director of "A Time to Kill" had, which isn't saying much as JS is obviously one of the most antiwhite directors of the pre-2010s era and he wasn't a good one either.
    I believe that there's a distinction between subliminal and explicitly intended propaganda in any medium by filmmakers. Given how Breaking Bad's plot was scripted almost in an improv fashion as the show went on; many characters, themes, and tropes were added on throughout the years rather than being planned from the beginning (For example Gus Fring, Mike Ehrmantrout, and Saul Goodman were all originally just meant to be cameos and Jesse was originally mean to die in the first season), I would say that this show falls into the subliminal category, and perhaps it was subverted as time went on. But I don't know, I could be badly mistaken. I also haven't seen this show in nearly a decade and so perhaps I'd notice some things you pointed out in the video now that I didn't back then upon a rewatch, amongst other things.....
    PS: What is your impression of the Sopranos; the show that inspired BB, with some similar tropes & themes, and Better Call Saul (which I never got to finish, was too busy by the time it came out)?

    • @wyattstagg1783
      @wyattstagg1783  2 місяці тому +7

      I would counter that colours are clearly being used archetypally as racial references from the outset - Walter White, Jesse Pinkman. I believe it to be unlikely that the writers arbitrarily placed the "White" residence on "black" stream lane, all the while specifically emphasizing themes of White disempowerment and death.
      The subversive messaging in an extended series will never be as distilled as in a two hour movie for the reasons you outlined, but all of the same tropes are there. If you doubt Gilligan's intentions, watch the X-Files episode "Drive". It was written by Gilligan and featured Bryan Cranston as a dying neo-Nazi named Crump (meaning: cripple) who believes in "antisemitic conspiracy theories". Same metaphor, much more explicit. It was on the basis of that role specifically that Cranston was cast as Walter White.
      I rushed this video out and worked almost entirely from memory when I made it, so I missed alot. There's way more in there to support my basic thesis which I hope to cover in a second video at some point.
      It's been a long time since I watched The Sopranos, but if memory serves, it's the same thing. Decline/death of the White man. I haven't seen Better Call Saul yet.

    • @salmonpassion
      @salmonpassion 2 місяці тому

      @@wyattstagg1783 I have not seen Breaking Bad in a long time either and well before I could notice subversive themes in media, just to note something, I'm operating off memory as well.
      1) As for the names... I would note that a popular theory is that White and Pink(man) are very possibly Tarantino references.
      Reservoir Dogs: Characters named "White" and "Pink", Mr. White dies and Mr. Pink gets away.
      Breaking Bad: Characters named "White" and "Pinkman", Mr. White dies and Mr. Pinkman gets away.
      I can believe this theory, though it's worth noting that Jesse was meant to die in Season 1.
      Of course, Tarantino is insanely anti white as I'm sure you know, so this does not absolve Gilligan fully.
      2) I also had no idea that the character of Walter White was seemingly based off a typecast dying anti-semitic neo-Nazi that Cranston played on a show Gilligan directed. If that is correct and the character and not just the performance is based off that X Files role, then the conflict with the (implicitly?) Jewish partners and "Heisenberg" persona starts to make a lot more sense. That's something I never had any knowledge of, I just thought Walter White was meant to be a standard nerdy middle American with MAYBE a few possible superficial influences from much more explicit media like Falling Down. I'll certainly look that up.
      There's a lot more to this show, but as you noted, there's a lot more to cover for a long TV show than a 2 hour long distilled movie. If you ever redo this or something like it, I look forward to it.
      3) Unrelated but I'm also interested in your opinions of Jeremy Clarkson/Top Gear/Clarkson's Farm, was that show trash TV or is Clarkson really our guy? Asking because I saw a lot of comments about him on your Springer video calling him "trash TV" and the English version of Springer, but unlike Jerry, he's always been a sort of avatar for right wingers in Britain (especially of late with his comments on Starmer and immigration) despite being a mainstream media figure for 30 years. He's someone I find to be a more positive influence overall compared to most celebrities in the UK (saying nothing) but I'm still on the fence with him. I wonder if he's just another Alan Partridge esque figure though.

      @@salmonpassionSchrader, Walt’s brother in law, is a reference to two Germans from the war, one of whom tried to kill the Austrian painter. This is meant to show the duality of Hank: the racist cop and the man hunting the evil protagonist.
      I also read that either during or before season 3, Dean Norris read Moby Dick. He is ASAC Ahab, down to the pegleg; in a fanatic quest to slay the white beast at all costs, even to his own “heroic” death. Walter White was a central figure in the NAACP, Heisenberg the German physicist, mirroring Walt’s transformation from liberal to…
      The gang in the final series mirror Walt: enslave Jesse and off his gf. By destroying them, Walt symbolically destroys his legacy as Heisenberg, as well as 90% of his wealth. At the end, it would have been better for him to never fight against his inevitable decline. That is the message of BB according to Stagg. “Go gently into that good night”.
      The battle between Walt and Obama (Fring) is also central. Pollos Hermanos is a metaphor for American capitalism, the public face of it, whereas the drug industry is its real seedy underbelly. America circa 2008-2012 is run by a mixed race, LGBT psychopath.
      Walt’s name is a reference to American literary giant Walt Whitman, who is himself referenced at a couple of points in BB. One should bear in mind the very similar narrative structure of Gran Torino (Walt has terminal cancer, sacrifices himself for the Other).

      2) Gus's character has to have been Obama inspired to some degree, yes. I used to call his character "Obama" when the show was still coming out. I don't know if Obama's exploits with homosexuality was common knowledge when the show came out but it was probably subtly known among right-wing circles.
      3) The Pinochet thing was also very interesting, because by depicting Fring as a ruthless character being the creation of the Pinochet regime, they are not so subtly demonizing one of the most successful right wing and anti-communist (and in my opinion, one of the best) leaders of the 20th century. As if Latin American communists weren't 1000x more brutal and violent.
      This is a bit akin to the trend where there are 1000 different movies on Nazis and the Holocaust (mind you, I'm not some pro-NS type, far from it) but far fewer on Stalin and the USSR or Pol Pot.

      It's impossible that he was not aware given the symbolism involved. Especially looking at the storyline written around Grey Matter Technologies. It's a pretty obvious metaphor for the power a certain group now possesses over our civilization, and our own dispossession from it.

      @@vaarkobke3102 If you've seen the X-Files episode "Drive", which was written by Vince Gilligan, it featured Bryan Cranston in the role of an "antisemitic" conspiracy theorist dying from a mysterious neurological condition. It was on the basis of that role that Cranston was cast as Walter White. So, in my opinion, Vince is very much aware of what he is doing.

    I think this is an interesting analysis but I totally disagree this was the message. Imo the message of the show is to take charge of one's life and live it on YOUR terms. WW starts out as an effete pushover at a deadend job. He applies his talents to make his mark on the world.

      @catphuckers Рік тому +22

      Actually in the show he ends up becoming evil so the lesson is that him taking charge of his own life is what ruined it so badly. According to the writers, he shouldn't have bothered because his resistance caused him more trouble.
