In this Gear4music demo we take a look at the Nvation UltraNova Synthesizer.
The Novation UltraNova is a 'Nova' series analogue-modelling synthesizer with a powerful effects processor. It is a single-part synth taking the legendary Supernova II synth engine as a starting point and packing it with the latest technology including wavetable synthesis, a software editor and a revolutionary new touch-sense performance mode.
The Novation UltraNova has 300 on-board sounds that you can browse by type and musical genre, so gigging musicians can get started straight away. You can quickly change the character of the sound with 8 encoders and a large, smooth encoder for detailed control.
It also comes with software plug-in editor which gives you in-depth visual editing, and can be opened and controlled in your DAW. There is also a software patch librarian that allows you to store, organize and search for an unlimited number of patches by type and genre.
The most underrated of va synths, and have a number of the analog classics, this holds its own easily
Your playing is awesome
Good thing i came to hear the vocoder
your good w it. impressive
2:03 Oldschool Prodigy vibes. Just add some MS-20 and a f'king nutter!
Just take the latch off, and you got yourself a Voodoo People-esque sound. :)
i miss this thing
master at keyboard!!!
First Patch is grrreat!!!!
That first patch is why I never sold it.
The sounds at :50 sounds very much like of Montreal ‘Let’s Relate’
There's some insane shit going on there. In a good way.
Can anyone layout how to creat the very first patch? This is one of the best sounds I’ve come across, especially in the arpeggio.
It is one of the first presets.
@@ghee5683 lol Novation agrees it's the best they heard too. It's the first thing you hear when you power it on.
I just bought this today. Can't wait to hook it up. I have the Yamaha mx49. I'm going to connect the 2 and just play!
June B if you had it you would hook it up first and play for hours. So if you are on you tube talking about hooking it up you don’t have it yet. :)))))))
I have this fantastic synth and dont understand why you picked a few of the crappiest sounds when it contains dozens of brilliant patches and leads?
What? These sound good to me, lol
question, Are you using all sounds that are built in the machine? or you are using a PC?
I like it but if you tell me that is a midi controller; then I dont want it.
capsuleboy : these are all sounds from the synth, and he only scratches the surface here. This synth is capable of a lot, it’ll serve you a very long time if you’re willing to learn it.
@@pineapple3037 thanks, and question: I have an electribe and I use it for making tracks, so I edit and save melodies and drums and things like that. Can this device be used to program at that level? or just to create sounds?
capsuleboy : I’m not too sure I always just use synths with my computer but from the looks of it in this video m.ua-cam.com/video/3hh2L4TEx9g/v-deo.html , you can connect a synth to your electribe so I’m guessing you can do this with the UltraNova but I’m not 100% sure.
Tem memória expansiva?
What's your opinion of this synth?
This is a great synth, especially if you want a compact mobile setup. In combination with a laptop with Ableton Live on it, a Launchpad Pro and a drummachine you have a great performance setup. For recording it's also great to get your ideas recorded, since it has an audio interface, if you connect it with a USB cable to a laptop/Macbook.
I bought one but cannot get this thing to work right in ableton
theres an automap manual and the synth manual online.
Are these like the pre made demo sounds you get?
yes
Is the Ultranova discontinued? If so, what is its replacement?
its still for sale
Circuit Tracks and Circuit Rhythm and they are pad synths not keyboards.
Might be. I can find em used but not a new one
I do know sweetwater only has the mini
@@therichardnogginproject9012 Which is the replacement. Understand that the Ultranova and the MiniNova have identical engines in them, except the MiniNova is more compact. Everything the Ultranova can do, the MiniNova can do as well. They're basically the same thing.
is this a midi controller as well?
Yes.. Although I haven't used it this way, the Ultranova apparently works great as a USB midi controller (and even audio interface), with the ability to auto-map its touch-sensitive encoders to software parameters.
BUT - for a setup like mine without USB (just connecting over standard 5-pin DIN), it becomes very basic as a controller. Using it this way, the encoders aren't customizable, and it won't even transmit master clock / tempo through the MIDI OUT.
But IMO, it's worth every penny as a synthesizer alone, especially at the recent prices. The fact that it's also a USB controller & audio interface makes it a no-brainer.
*I haven't had mine long - Please someone correct me if I got something wrong here!
Eargasim.
I honestly don’t like that first patch. Nonetheless, this synth is amazing.
I honestly don't like any of those sounds!! But other people might have a different opinion.
Terrible demo
Not a good quality product. The customer support is a total joke. It's non-existent.
I respectfully beg to differ, mine had damage done to some of the keys and when I contacted the repair shop for these products here in canada I got the run around and crazy wait times (not part of novation just a contracted repair shop). I then contacted notations own customer service email and told them my issue and they sent me the damaged keys I needed for free with a couple stickers from all the way across the Atlantic. There's more stories of their above and beyond customer service in novation synth group pages on the various social medias. I've been wanting to buy myself a backup ultranova but theyre not available new anymore.
Sorry bud I see it's an old comment. Hope you're still playing synth and take care.
