I recently bought a brand new 65 PRRI partially inspired by some of your previous vids on the amp. I really love it… it sounds awesome, the reverb is heaven. Light, compact, super easy to take over to my buddy’s house. Sounds great with lots of different guitars, takes pedals well too. I’m super impressed. Thanks Jack!

I’ve been intrigued by the Princeton for quite some time now, but for some reason I’ve never pulled the trigger on one. You’re playing and tone on this video is very good. Great content.
I am also a fender guy. I really enjoy anything blackface and tweed.

Up to recently, I was a Deluxe Reverb guy (still is my gigging and jamming amp), but it’s way too loud for home use, if you want it to come alive, even on the second channel. Bought a 65 Princeton Reverb, it became my all-time favourite amp instantly. If I had to keep only one amp, it would be the 65 Princeton Reverb. You’re absolutely right, Jack : there is something about a 10 inches speaker sounding better in a Fender Blackface circuit!

  • @joeyoungs8426

First and foremost your technique is impeccable. I’ll leave it at that. I have several amps but if I could only keep one it would be my Princeton that I bought as a chassis and built a two speaker cabinet for. It’s the one amp that meets all my needs for my electric guitar interests. I really only need the one channel which rendered my DR obsolete. The only amp in my stable that possibly trumps the Princeton is my Allen Sweet Spot. Extremely versatile in so many ways.

I had a reverb issue as well. After much searching it turned out to be one of the small springs inside the tank that was the culprit that drove us crazy before I found it. I wound up replacing the reverb tank and that solved the issue.

I know it sounds obvious but one thing that always massively helps a Princeton is an amp stand. Makes it sound way less boxy because of the projection angle. I recommend this before any mods/speaker changes because it sounds glorious right out of the box

We have an original '65 Princeton (non reverb) in the studio I work at. No matter what tubes we put in it we cannot get the amp to break up, it's crystal clean even at vol 10. I come to learn that the Princeton Reverb has a different circuit at the front end that produces the nice break up.

I had an original '65 Princeton years ago that I used for home practice. I agree that it has a beautiful classic Fender sound. I only tried to gig with it once and it took about 5 seconds for the drums, bass and keyboard to bury me! It was a moderate volume restaurant gig too. Just my experience. Still a great home amp though.

I have always wanted a Princeton Reverb and just got a six year old reissue with a 12" Cannibis Rex. I pretty much agree with you. It's loud! I'm in acoustic bands so this is just a noodle at home amp for me. I too love to buy, and sell gear to try stuff. If I sold this, I would regret it. I can't think of an amp that I have regretted selling. Guitars, yes, I have regretted selling almost every one. I want to try a 5 watt Fender or a 6g2, either a Chris Stapleton or a clone. I appreciate your channel Jack and your tasteful playing. I'm over 60, BTW.

I bought my PRRI in 2013 to replace my original '65 Princeton that got stolen. I wasn't planning on buying the limited edition (orange & white Tolex with a Jensen "Special Design" speaker), but that's all my local Guitar Center had in stock which turned out to be a great move. I originally bought it to play harmonica through (like my original '65) but started playing guitar in 2016 (at the age of 50 LOL) and it's now my #1 amp for both harmonica and guitar. It's great for the harp and for clean, bluesy guitar tones and kicks serious ass when I want to crank out some metal. My only complaint is the tremolo and reverb have grown weak over time and I need to find a good amp tech to track down the problem.

Sure it does - those Fender solid state amps punch way above their weight

is it worth the money to upgrade to a princeton from a superchamp x2? for clean sounds

    • @JackFossett
      @JackFossett  2 роки тому +1

That’s actually hard. The X2 is a hidden gem. You could cover most of the tonal difference by upgrading the speaker in the X2.

@@JackFossett hi thanks for your input, I replaced the stock speaker in an x2 with a canabis rex due to one of your videos. I heard that x2 similar to a princeton

Is this really worth the extra $$$ over the blues jr?

@MacMFer thank you sooooo much for this info and the video link! It really does help. I didn’t know the Princeton had a tube rectifier. I saw there were a few select Princeton models with a 12 inch speaker so I’m considering those. Thanks for the help!

Princetons and teles cant go wrong there
But i dont think its fair to compare reissues and blackfaces ...when you look under the hood there are few similarities .....sounds great tho, they are great amps.
And im sure a tech could easily fix your reverb issue
