The first time I saw it at age 10, I thought the guy said "You got a paddy on your head." I had no idea what that meant. And I still thought it sounded hilarious.
For my video editing class in high school, one assignment was to make a trailer for a movie and I chose to mainly focus on this scene and inserted Blondie’s One Way or Another to play in the background and to start as soon as the car pulls out from the gas station and ended the song when the clerk fired his gun during the chase. It actually worked better than the yodeling.
The actual song works better in the scene as part of the movie. Using Blondie in the trailer would have totally sold it as a non-stop, upbeat film... I can see the chase intercut with quick clips of other action bits... all with One Way or Another blaring. I love when a trailer gives you the overall spirit, maybe some of the plot (maybe not with this film haha), and a song that carries that emotion. Even if it's glaringly different in the final piece. Trailers are pieces of work in their own right. Hope your assignment turned out well! I was in film school when this film came out... saw it a good 10 times in the theater (helped that I worked there haha).
I've seen this movie so many times. I just finally noticed the insane amount of cash that's in the register. That kid is emptying the register for 30+ seconds. The local quick stop just sitting on tens of thousands in the till late at night.
I think it's also to try stalling the guy by intentionally grabbing them slowly and few at a time, so he gets away scot free with less/nothing hopefully
Yea my biblical understanding is that Christ was not only was an amazing gunslinger but he hoped America would have more than twice the number of guns than the next closest country because then we would all be safe and happy 🤣
True thug here. Ever see those "peaceful protests" in la a year and a half ago in Santa Monica? The ones where they brought the swat team to zip tie everyone down, people jumping fences and climbing buildings in ways you never would've thought to do. Anything they can do to flee these skinny sons of bitches. No?? It was pretty fucked up lol
The big question is: how is he alive if the cops’ first instinct is to shoot when a man commits a robbery and he committed several robberies throughout his life 😂
Sounds weird but in the 80s and prior, a lot of stores had a gun somewhere under the counter for situations like this, even in non-"gun loving" states. That might have been the store's gun and not the clerk's.
I've seen this movie a million times since it came out and laugh every time at "Son, you got a panty on your head."
"Hey! These blow up into funny shapes at all?"
"Well, no. Unless round is funny."
My favorite line in a movie, the inflection is perfect. I repeat to myself and crack up everytime! The panty on you head line!
and @seinfan9 ...I just randomly spout that line and the "unless round is funny" and crack up. My wife does not get it, lol
Me too! Thank you!
The first time I saw it at age 10, I thought the guy said "You got a paddy on your head."
I had no idea what that meant. And I still thought it sounded hilarious.
“I’ll be taking these Huggies and uh, whatever cash you got.” 😂😂😂
🔫 "Wake up, son."
"Son, you got a panty on yer head."
@@seinfan9🔫 "Just drive fast."
I love that the cop is already hanging out of the window shooting when they pull up to the mini mart! 🤣
I miss Pay Phones
@@jmjones7897 Me too! And the phone book hanging in them 😄
Another typical day in Arizona
Never noticed that
If your European friends ever ask what a typical day in America is like, show them this clip.
Luke G. Love this comment, hilarious!😂
YUP! 😊
I showed my German friend this. He loved it lol
Factuals
Riiiiiiiiiiiiight
One of Nicolas Cage’s best roles! Lmao he was hilarious in this movie 😂
I generally can’t stand him but he was great in this.
1:10 love how the cop enters the scene already sitting in the open window firing...then just keeps doing it the entire time...i just lose it
YES!!!
You gotta love those Mid-West America nature documentaries.
This is one of my all time favorite comedic movie scenes. When I saw it the first time I could barely breathe I was laughing so hard.
You stopped it right before the best part. "Son you got a panty on your head" 🤣
"Just drive fast ok."
The store clerk looking at "Juggs" magazine is hilarious.
so much detail in these movies...like airplane! u can see stuff everywhere so much funny and puns going on
The whole chase scene is a classic.
Son, you gotta pantie on your head...

Nick cage was so great in this
Holly Hunter is too cute in this movie
She’s a doll
This is like a cartoon i swear. I love it.
It's basically a real life Looney Toons movie. It's amazing.
This whole chasing scene is definitelly one of my most favourite in all of the movies
"I'm in dutch with the wife" 🤣
Cages best role n best movie hands down...in my top 5....laughing ass off rt now 20 yrs later
38.
The kid working at the store looks like Beavis😂
The yodelling makes it
This part resignates so much. Heart is so in right place. Brains not.
The kid going to town with the hand cannon 😅😅😅!! You know he was wanting to do that for ever!😅😅
"Wake up, son..."
"I'll be taking these Huggies and uh, whatever cash you got."
1:38 After all these years I still crack up when he pops up his head and the panty hose legs fly up. 😂
and the way he is running after that too
"Son...you got a panty on your head."
“Just drive fast ok.”
About to be me in these pandemic times lmao 😂 🤣
Lol
Good timing
True that in these hard times lol
Haha. Go get your boosters sheeple
I love this scene remember being a kid dying laughing

Those cops got on scene sooo tough.
Funniest part is the cop falling out of the car
Back in the day, when stealing was a cardinal sin. Punishable by being fired upon relentlessly by large firearms. Good fucking times.
Pure genius and Cage at the top of his game. Legendary.
0:31 gun twirl
Yea, that cracks me up.
😃😄😁😆😅🤣😂😎
"Huneeee???!!!" 🤣
Well, it ain’t Ozzie and Harriet!
The way he run is hilarious idk
For my money one of the funniest movies of all time
I’d like a full album by whoever sings this song. It’s amazing
Carter Burwell (sp?) did the soundtrack, but it’s a cover of a Pete Seeger song.
who the hell stopped this just before the best line?
The dogs in the store were the funny part. This movie is a classic I have it on DVD
1:00 the bouncing patrol car..i swear this is like airplane! u can see so much detail in every scene 🤣🤣
This unlocked childhood memories damn I miss this movie it's the only reason I ever considered living there lol
The cop just indiscriminately shooting without concern of background....🤦♂
Yep, the cop shooting like crazy in the middle of a neighborhood with that background music playing just cracks me up.
That's accurate.
funniest part when the cop is sitting on the open window old gangster style just firing away...i always lose it
"I'll be taking these Huggies ..."
And Whatever Cash 💸 💰 you Got 😅
That dog man, that dog!!! 🤣🤣🤣💀💀💀
The "dog stampede" makes this scene insanely perfect!!! 😂😂😂
I've seen this movie so many times. I just finally noticed the insane amount of cash that's in the register. That kid is emptying the register for 30+ seconds. The local quick stop just sitting on tens of thousands in the till late at night.
Some of that money was probably from the safe near the counter
I think it's also to try stalling the guy by intentionally grabbing them slowly and few at a time, so he gets away scot free with less/nothing hopefully
$6,372.94
LOL so much detail in this movie ..new things to see all the time like AIRPLANE!
Lottsa screamin in this all time classic
How many bullets are in those guns? Infinite ammo and no reload cheat enabled.
Not to mention no recoil. Stupid fake-ass Hollywood guns.
Um.. this is a far fetched comedy. Everything about it is unrealistic. That’s what makes it funny.
@@farmtotablegreenthumb6740 Just like life itself.
Existence is absurd
Might as well laugh once in awhile and try to make the most of it
lmao i love how cartoonish this film was
Hold on Nathon . Going to go pick up daddy. Story of my life.
1:08 You can see the price of gas in background 0.86
Murica!
We used to have a dollar that could purchase quite a bit of goods and services.
Kinda wish you had the ENTIRE chase, and not just the first half.
At least the old guy in the truck had it better than when Llewellyn Moss stopped a dude
Arizona might not be the best state but thank Christ we can still open/conceal carry our guns

I like that the convenience store is playing the same song on Muzak that they're singing during the chase scene.
The movie is a live action cartoon lol
thats how i always describe it! lol kinda like airplane!
this movie is amazing the coen brothers never miss 😂
The reason why this is my favorite part of this movie is because it’s chasing, you know?
You stopped it before the best part. Where the guy says, "son, you got a panty on yo head". 😂😂😂
This. Is. So. Funny.
Love this entire scene . Probably the best in cinema history
Friday funny & all but this here was before I watched Friday 😂😂😂😂😂

My God, son, you have a pantyhose on your head you just drive fast

This scene makes you wonder if this is really Arizona or Texas? Cause clearly this is a gun loving state.
Sounds weird but in the 80s and prior, a lot of stores had a gun somewhere under the counter for situations like this, even in non-"gun loving" states. That might have been the store's gun and not the clerk's.
Those accents too aren’t what you’d normally hear an Arizonan talk like.
This is just what America was like.
Can't say I don't miss it
