I would love for you to do a series on canning this spring and summer. This past summer I embraced canning tomatoes and green beans in abundance. I did however freeze zucchini, okra, and summer squash. I’m always looking for techniques that different individuals use to improve the efficiency of my own. I would also love to see recipes that you create with your freeze dried products.
I am so happy to have found you! Your such a jewel and inspiration. I'm 63 yrs old and have always loved baking bread, with bread machine, now I'm learning how to make bread by hand. Yesterday I made your beginner bread recipe, which came out beautiful! Today I'm making your cinnamon swirl bread. Your instructions are so simple, not complicated. I do have alot of joint pain, so I'm watching your videos on inflammation. Thank you so much for sharing your journey. God Bless!
Wonderful. I'm glad you find the videos helpful. A little tip though: no bread on an anti inflammatory diet . I had to let that go a long time ago and I'm so glad I did.
I bought some of the plastic lids..then discovered that mayo lids fit the mason jars...started saving them and have a ton of them..free vs the money I spent on the 8 lids I purchased. Also the lids from the plastic Parmesan cheese jars fit the mason jars too and they flip up for spooning or pouring.
I would love a series on canning. I used my steam canner last summer, but never worked up the courage to use the pressure camner I had purchased! Obviously, I'm a newbie to canning.
I don't can because I'm scared of botulism. I want to learn the right way so badly because we have something in the garden year round and I freeze it instead of canning. I have everything I need to water bath can except the courage to do it. Look forward to all your videos. They are always so helpful. Take care!!!
You know, your fears are shared by so many but the truth is that botulism usually occurs when people break the rules. They don't sanitize well, they can things that aren't approved or don't adjust the pH like they should, etc. When you follow the rules, you're generally safe. ❤️
6:49 I've never canned because I don't know how and find it a bit intimidating. I really want someone to show me, in person, walking me through their process so I can see what I'm missing from the UA-cam videos.
Yes, I would like to see videos on canning regular things. I don’t can, i blanche and freeze a lot of stuff. I am not confident enough to can something and eat it after in case I have done something wrong and someone gets sick. I would enjoy learning more about freeze drying foods as well.
I would love to see a seasonal canning lessons! I am also interested in the trees drive products! Did You ever use freeze drive fruit? Have You tried making homemade fruit roll ups with a dehydrator? I can't see the links that You always talk about on the video. HELP!!!
Many years ago, made pickled okra. It was a very simple and easy recipe and I have lost it over the years of moving ( hubby was in the Marines). Just pack the smallish pods in a pint jar and pour the vinegar mixture over them, slap and flat and ring on them and, done. Did not call for a water bath. I have searched online for a similar recipe and asked round and everyone says you have to do the water bath. I didn't and we didn't suffer. Please tell me im not crazy.
You probably aren't crazy Joan. Lots of people have done things lots of ways with canning, but...to be safe, I water bath can mine too. The only thing I don't can with some sort of heat or pressure are certain jams. --Rachel
How do you pickle okra? I never liked it, boiled, because it was slimy. I finally ate some sliced raw in a salad and love it that way. Now I’m wanting to learn how to make things with okra that aren’t very slimy.
I've never canned. Why? I don't trust my own foods for some reason. I tried kombucha and it turned out okay, I guess, but I never actually drank it. I would very much like to try making sauerkraut because of my German background as well as I hear it is amazing for beneficial bacteria. Edit: Also interested in the freeze dried foods. Never heard of those before for people (just pet treats).
Kraut is amazing for your gut! I buy mine right now but I think you do certainly need to be able to trust what you're making. I have made kombucha too and love that.
Sauerkraut is best fermented, but not canned. The heat from the canning process kills all the good bacteria you created in the canning process. Speaking of...I need to make a batch for winter. I also have some asparagus I need to ferment.
I don't think I had a diet as bad as most Americans. I ate out maybe 3 times a month, rarely drank soda and never ate candy or heavy sweets. I loved cheese and pasta and carbs and as a food blogger just generally enjoyed good food as a whole. I loved fruit and vegetables and grew up on a farm with homesteading parents so I had some balance, and we still grow a lot of our own food on our farm. I rarely ate meat or eggs because I hated the flavor. We've corrected that a lot now through gut work. My old ways weren't the worst, but they certainly weren't a healing diet. No doubt about that.
@@FeastandFarmCooks thanks so much for the reply! I also have hashimotos, I'm on medication for hypothyroidism and it's helped me a ton. I once spent 5 years eating vegan, a year gluten free, all kinda of supplements, the whole time without any medication and my health got worse and worse. Now my doctor is concerned about my cholesterol, all good except my LDL so now I'm back to to drawing board and I'm seeing information about how the high fiber low fat diets they suggest are not very good for us, I tried it for about a month and was so fatigued and had horrible brain fog I had to stop. My doctor wants me on a statins which is one of the most prescribed medications in America which horrible side effects. I'm still trying to figure out diet wise what I should do. I basically eat 80% whole foods, eat out 3 times or so a month as you did, love cooking. It's just hard to be back to trying to figure out what my body is doing when I try so hard to be healthy. 🙄
@@PixieDeathDust I am so sorry you're going through that. Take a look at the GAPS diet. I totally believe that vegan diets are among the single worst thing you can do for your health. Cholesterol is an inflammatory marker and has nothing to do with your fat intake in the long run. Sugar and vegetable oil are among the top drivers for spikes in cholesterol. Vegan food is full of refined seed oils in their attempt to make fake food. Take a look at GAPS find a provider like a nutritional therapist to help you uncover your root issues and dig in to a diet rich in animal fats, eggs, lard, etc and you may see change!

Yay! Thank you for this! Yes please do video for canning vegetables. I would like to learn and not be afraid of my pressure cooker.
You're welcome Gina!

@@FeastandFarmCooks Thanks for this bit of encouragement. I look forward to your future videos on canning. I so want to learn. Take care!!!
You can also get dried garbanzo beans and soak and cook in slow cooker
Yes you sure can!
Thanks for the tour. I would LOVE to see videos on how you can!!! I have done it before, but it's just time consuming and messy. 😞
Yes, please do a canning series. I have been afraid of a pressure cooker since my grandmother was badly burned when she used hers.

I would love for you to make some canning videos! I don't have a pressure cooker just the Ball pot that has a basket and lid.
That's a water bath canner. Okay for some things but not all.

I make a vinegar brine with herbs and garlic and pour that over my okra pods. It's delicious!

They are linked in the description box Tina. You can check them out there.
I'm just curious what you ate before changing your diet. Did you eat out much? Processed foods? Like a SAD diet?
