They Life They Present EP 7: Wesley Pierre

  • From as early as I can remember, Wesley's life always has had traces of creativity present. in elementary school, his teacher fauded how brilliant he was; he spoke both English and Kreyol fluently and wrote perfectly- he was only in the second grade. His talent with words formed early on; we would sit in our living room trying to use medical terms we barely could pronounce in our spoken word poems. When I left for college and returned, his passion for language had grown. He had books filled with writing; the barely legible handwritten lines forced a reader to focus on every word.
It was almost as if he had created that challenge intentionally. He told me he was working on a book called Catharsis; in the same breath he told me was making music- I blinked and he played me his first EP The Garden.
He was evolving, growing every time I visited. Once, I visited him in New Jersey - pieces of fabrics were tossed everywhere, the sewing machine was threaded, scissors and needles were within an arm's reach, and of course, there was a different book, this time containing a sketch of pants. "I made these," he said about the pair he was wearing - no buckles or pockets but legs that flooded over his Doc. Martens. This time, I asked to see his sketchbook. I flipped through each page. Hats and Eyes everywhere.

"Respectfully ma....you gone regret that" LMAO. I love it. Mommas don't know. I've made more money as a photographer than i have in the engineering world and my mother still keeps telling "dont quit your day job. people not going to pay you for your work" But they do! Nicely. The real problem is SHE doesn't value my art or art in general. Makes me sad but I'm glad I stopped listening to her. Wish I would have stopped when I was a teenager and just followed my dreams, passion and God given ability.

Id recommend not being too hard to her - She is just telling you what would have been the right thing to do in her generation. Doesnt mean she doesnt value your art.

Thank you for the light you bring into the world. My brother you are gifted, talented artist. You're worth more than you may realize. If you can garner $15,000 for a particular piece. Why not see that it for ,$50,000 or even $500.000? You and your worth is more than you may realize.

Great video. I think when we grow up we judge ourself too much. This makes us scared to do what we want to do. It limits our freedom to create.

Both of their voices are so soothing. Also, Wesley's style is interesting. I love the floating hats.

Incredibly interesting to see the process and witness where and how the initial thought evolves into a final piece. Thank you both for doing this and showcasing not just the here and now, but the journey along the way

“I believe in myself” key line of the whole video. That’s it right there.

He is lame. His logic is scattered and, it is not understood or felt. It is a fact; he doesn’t know what the purpose of what it means to be a artist this day in time.
