The F-117 isn't actually a fighter, it's an attack plane.

The Spitfire had limited range as opposed to the Mustang because it was designed as an Interceptor, short range, fast climb, highly manoeuvrable and hard hitting, the Mustang had its long range due to the amount of fuel it carried AND the economy of the (Packard) Merlin engine, though with a full fuel load it was unstable and could be dangerous if not flown relatively conservative until some fuel was burned off from the huge tank behind the pilot.

DH Mosquito. The best all-round combat aircraft to date. And yes! There was a fighter version and a night-fighter version.
The Spitfire was the best allied fighter of WWII. Better than the P51D in all areas other than range. Shot down the most enemy aircraft. Fought in every theatre of the war including at sea. It was the best high-altitude PR aircraft too.
The P51D was the best escort fighter but even then, it had huge number advantage and faced a Luftwaffe well on its way to 'shooting its bolt'

The pilots always seem to forget that they can lift off and put down “Anywhere” after the Royal Engineers have been there.

Thank you "@luvr381", the F-117 has NO air to air combat ability, the F-117 is a light bomber.
