Gravity has recently teamed up with a british mountain rescue team, this means that a 25 minute hike to a patient can now be completed in just 90 seconds
I'd imagine that the use cases might be limited, but in those use cases the tech will be absolutely invaluable.
How does that work is someone always half-dressed and prepped for action?
If it has practical application by all means but for such uses certainly a helicopter is more suitable?
@ivor I think they drive the pilot there suit him up, and then the pilot(?) acts as a paramedic who might, as you say, call a helicopter
@@patrickmoody9367 Or maybe it is for cases where even a helicopter could not land close enough to the victim. Or potentially even lower people to the scene for example where the slope is steep enough that the helicopter just wouldn't have a rope long enough to reach them without the rotors being dangerously close to the terrain.
@@Valks-22 I'm sure I saw that it was a specially trained paramedic who could respond which would be quicker than waiting on a much more expensive helicopter which may already be going to other calls. Most of the videos I've seen have been in conjuction with Royal Marines boarding ships and rigs. I think the inventor was maybe RM.

Who knows how advanced jet packs will be, if companies invested and focused on its development.
Ye one day they might have MagSafe feature.
We could make them safer and more sophisticated. But it's allways going to have the problem of needing to carry human + fuel, and just brute force hovering through thrust alone being horribly inefficient.

@@LK-ho1dg With our understanding of physics, there is no practical way to hover a human in the air without the current technology shown. So yes, for now we'll always have to worry about the jetpack having enough fuel and thrust to carry a human.

For anyone interested, I happened to ask for the price for training a few Month ago, and they replied this:
Flight Training is £5000 ($6500) per person per day + VAT. We host up to three pilot candidates in one day which speeds up competency as you learn together. Typically by the end of one day, most are able to achieve a basic hover with the tether visibly slack.
Flight Experience is £2000 ($2600) per person per day + VAT. This involves a tour of the Gravity Lab, a flight demo by one of our Pilots and two powered runs on the tethered Training Rig to give you that mind-blowing visceral experience.
That’s still expensive for sure, but honestly less than I expected

well spend a decade online building up your profile as a person who does crazier and crazier things, that's a good start.
In a sense the answer is by watching Tom's channel. You now know there is a company that will teach you to fly a jetpack. Call or E-mail them.

thing is the danger of falling is it's all about velocity, falling from 50 feet is quite survivable (not walk away in one piece survivable, but leave the hospital after 2 weeks with a broken leg survivable)
To quote another video, this is what you call fail deadly.
If it doesn't already, They could reserve bit fuel. When rider falls through sky, They could use the fuel in combination with height sensor and gyro to stop rotation and give a parachute effect. Although it would only work if you stretch your arms else you'd burn yourself.
Then only danger would be accidently burning yourself / falling on back.
Can we all take a second to appreciate the fact that those guys had to figure out **from scratch** how to fly that thing? Very impressive stuff.

I'm always genuinely impressed by those guys, because you're essentially lifting quite a lot of your body weight on to your arms for minutes at a time, while making millimetric adjustments to keep the thrust vectoring in check. Very cool.
As long as you're mostly upright the main lift would be in the harness on your back, not on your arms, right?
@@Tomwithnonumbers well the jet back is not supposed to be driven upright that's why they keep on telling him to lean forwards so it's more spread out
@@db5094 Even if the video of the pros doing it, they're leaning at something like 20-30 degrees from upright, so the vast majority of the lift is still coming from the back.
There's a reason they've got a larger thruster on the back

I think what caught my attention the most was how close the assistants could stand to Tom with the engines running and not get frazzled to a crisp…that suggests that when the bugs get ironed out, it'll need a lot less room to take off and land than one might initially think 🤔

The man’s point of “human brains can learn this entirely new thing very quickly” is incredible. That’s one thing that makes us so very different from any other animal, and is also why I’m not that worried about “AI” right now - they’re not even close to being as adaptable as us.

This jet-pack is being used to help rescue people in areas where a helicopter would have trouble reaching. Fantastic!
IDK if it's much usable with just 4 minutes of flight time. Keep in mind that you don't only need to get there, but also return to base, which means the range of operation is even less than 4 minutes.
