Tips 1: The jam you are using will cause build up in your locs. Once or twice shouldn’t cause a problem but if you use it continuously use it you will see build up. 2: Comb up your new growth. You will see a difference in the length of your locs. 3: When retwisting, clips all the way down the loc not just the new growth or near the scalp. This will also cause you locs to lengthen. 4: Be careful ripping out hair when you are parting. That will cause your locs to thin. 5: Retwist with just oil and water. 6: No matter what stage you are in wash your locs. Especially when you are getting a retwist. Washing will unravel them a little but that’s the point of the retwist: to tighten the hair back up after the wash.
I was loose natural for 12 years and had the same thoughts. I was drawn to them and felt “why not”. Now in month 5 and still don’t regret it! The retwist stressed me so I go to a shop. You are doing great.
