After watching hundreds of hours of ryu playing both matio makers its honestly just the vibes of the levels which tells me which game he's playing. They have weirdly distinct vibes yknow?
The camera is a dead give away lol. If you play these games, it's immediately apparent. No "vibes" necessary, but for some reason everyone wants to post about how MM1 "hits different" and blah blah
Thanks for saving the princess!! Regarding MM1 vs 2, i eventually came to heavily favor MM1 for its levels. They are more fun to watch, have fewer gimmicks, fewer find the hidden block, more creativity, etc. If you mixed mm1 and 2 levels into a video, i would be able to tell which ones were MM1 based on how fun they were to watch you play. The slopes, switches, catsuits, etc are obvious indicators, but what matters is how much less fun they are to watch. I know not everyone feels the same about this. IMO mm1 is twice as good. It's gotten to the point where watching mm2 is a struggle, sry Ryu. Maybe an experiment is in order??
I honestly can tell between the two because the less polished, more disorganized feel more effectively channels the chaotic energy of creativity than the cleaned up SMM2
I'd kind of like to see more SMM1 "costume endings," where you beat the final level with a costume. I saw you do it once and there was alternate dialogue. It's sort of random but maybe there's a way to try to farm it for content.
The conundrum is, the 100 mario challenge is better for doing youtube video's because it's a "set amount" and there's an end. MM2's endless allows more features, challenges, and interactions but 30 lives is not enough, and sometimes you just don't know when to stop.
@@MultiLimpet Self-imposed challenges are a big part of both games and what's considered "winning". Creators like Ryu seem to see 100-man only as beaten if you don't skip any of the levels, even though it's a fully intended and valid strategy to technically beating 100-man. Kinda the same thing with self-imposed challenges in MM2 endless, like Thabeast's 8 levels without skipping format.
6:25 Other than the three-digit life counter, I can always tell you're playing MM1 because of the camera. MM2 camera follows the character much better than MM1.
Kicky feet and janky vertical scrolling remind me that you’re playing MM1. And sometimes we get to see Lanky Mario and the cool costumes. Come to think of it, Lanky Mario and the Costumes could be a band name.

I definitely notice. I don't play either one, so I wouldn't know all the little intricacies of how you have to execute the techniques differently, but there's still some kind of weird palpable difference watching them. MM1 somehow feels... cruder, but in a good way. I don't know how to describe it. Maybe it's that MM1 actually has more tech you need to or can use. Also, *spike hit boxes.*
I’m not entirely sure what it is, but SMM1 levels have a really different… vibe to SMM2 levels. Plus sometimes there’s fun like costumes that aren’t in SMM2. I’m glad you still play this!

i'm a noob at mario maker (or platform in general) but i know about the p switches jump, spikes differences on mm1 and 2, but it's easy to know if you actually play the game, seeing a level without new powerups or lives count it's not easy to distinguish
