As a French, I'm so sorry about the incident with the hunters but as you can see on the news we try to put laws in place to limit their "passe-droit" but it's hard. I hope they won't push a boar in your garden again

this level of dangerous encounters has even made it to the Economist - 'France reviews its hunting rules' 5 Jan 2023 publication date. Having come rather close to a pack (we stopped counting at 12 which is where we started running and looking for trees) of wild boar with piglets while doing SERE training (Army times)...that was an entertaining 3 minutes that resulted in all of us scattering. a few weeks later we actually had a male boar charge us when we were flying helicopter missions and that was crazy. Very protective of their young and can be unpredictable - but are generally very shy. Rather brave young girl.

What a lovely Village full of Character, love the Cupboard its gorgeous, just hunting not good on your land as those dogs could easy find and chase yr cats down I hope they dont come back . All I'm going to say is firewood firewood . I have cats too we sold our Dairy farm 2 years ago and I just could not leave them behind as most of them are wild so I brought cages and court them, we brought 25 acres and they all here they stay outside except for 2 Grommet and Persy but I to seem to be never ending buying cat food 😄 . They are all spayed or fixed up now so no babies along with 5 horses , 13 Hereford cows and there calves 3 bulls and a large orchard it's a never ending of work to be done . I hope Mimi is doing ok . Bathroom is going to look great .

Thanks to your love of animals, I assume you have a strict "no hunting" policy in place on your land. It needs rigorous enforcement by the local Maire. Difficult if your Maire him/herself is one of the hunters. We have had the same problem with hunting on our château land with, one time, dogs, deer and hunters all descending on a children's treasure hunt in our forest, despite our no hunting policy. It is madness! They have put your family at risk and must be made aware of the consequences. One is entitled to feel safe on one's own land. I sincerely hope your family (and animals) remain safe in the future. My best wishes from Normandie. X

Thanks for the tour of the nearby town and the brocante. The armoire looks like it will be perfect. The sight and sound of the water was a lovely counterpoint to the trespassers. Hunters know the rules. They just chose not to follow them. Your daughter showed great presence to get out of the way. (She shouldn't have had to, in her own garden). Glad you let them have it, verbally. I commend your meticulous approach to all projects and unforeseen "fixes". I would love to show you some of my Emmaüs antiques, some, I think, Louis XV d"epoch (from Louis' time, not "de style," in the same style. Thought you might find them interesting. Another thing about wallpapering with Toile de Jouey. There's matching mateerial for curtains, the bit yoou drape over the bottom of the bed, the first big pillow beehind the big white ones. Too, you often see the inside of the doors of armoires like your very plain one finished off with the Toile de J cloth, just the curved part to the bottom, the edges turrned under and I think glued on. Very very pretty, and you can eveen leave the ddoors open all the time even with dishes, linens, etc. visible. I've only seen this done on armoires like your plain one, the Louis XV,. About the different historical styes of French antiques . . . . With each successivee King, the style changed to show that the new king wanted us to know that he had his own tase. You now know how to recognise Louis XV. Lou XVI has STRAIGHT legs and chair backs. Oh yes, Lou XIV has few armoires but marble-topped commodes, chests of drawers, because there was more going from chateau to chateeat for hunting primarily, so armoires would have been too cumbersome. Too, they couold cut the meat on the marble top. The single beds you painted black are the style of the last King, Louis Philippe. Way back before Louis XIV was Henri II. He did have armoires, dark wood, and the thick thick doors carved, not exactly 'flowery,' but more geometric. I've been told that the less carving (like on your plain Louis XV armoire mean earlier in the reign, maybe even when he was Regent. Styles also vary between regions of France. Check all of this out as I think you'll find it fascinating but probably won't change the antiques you choose.

Try Screwfix or Toolstation both with a com at the end for your brass switches, it still might be cheaper to pay postage etc than paying for them from Spain. I had a quick look on both and typed in brass light switch, the georgian type seem to be similar to what you have just got. I would be a screaming banshee to those hunters, so good on you. Shouting the loudest seems to be the only weapon you have in some situations, and they always remember you afterwards and know not to cross you again. The woods housekeeping will come, but you have enough on your plate for now. Its all coming together. Can't wait for the bathroom reveal and what colours you go for.

Tracking devices on hunting dogs has really changed the "sport". Trespassing used to be managed because the hunter was within a reasonable distance behind the dogs to control them. Not anymore as hunters are off in a van w/ their phones and the dogs are on their own. This is a problem all over the world right now (even in New England but it's bears not boars). Wonderful woods, pond and streams. Would gladly volunteer to help clean up ivy and blackberry. Cheers

I’m so sorry your daughter experienced that and as a parent you have to worry about that. I grew up in northern Wisconsin and we lived on 14 acres. Regardless of the signs my parents posted, we still encountered hunters trespassing and shooting. I was 12 when an idiot with a shot gun came onto our property and shot. He struck me in the shoulder fracturing the joint and pretty much blowing out my shoulder. Apparently, I looked like a deer in a blaze orange vest. I was in my front yard helping to stack wood. Never received an apology. He approached, realized what had happened, and being the responsible adult, he then ran. He was eventually caught and arrested but it messed me up for awhile. When he was asked what happened he had some crazy story that made no sense. “The gun malfunctioned.” 🤔🤔🤔 Apparently, so did his aim 🤦🏻‍♀️

Got this a bit late so finally able to watch.
Very scary with the dogs and hunters. Can you post No Hunting signs on your property? Glad they got the message. Your forest is huge and love the closeup shots of the creek and wild fungi. That amoire is perfect for bathroom storage. Price was so cheap. Good to see donkeys. Stay safe and warm.

Love that armoire Amanda. There's so much babbling creeks on your property. That pond area will be nice when it's cleaned up.
I think you two need a helping hand. I cant see you all do all that alone.
It's wild country out there where you live so carry something for defense from the boars.

You need some beavers for your vivier. Beavers are just good for the environment and to create ponds that retain water even through droughts.
