- The LG G3 and its new MLA OLED panel seems like a pretty clear response to the waves created by QD-OLED TVs. In this video, we pit the LG G3 against the Samsung S95B and the Sony A95K -- two of 2022's best TVs -- to see how it stacks up in areas of brightness, contrast, and color. As one of the best TVs of 2023, the LG G3 appears set to take on 2023 QD-OLED TVs like the Sony A95L and Samsung S95C as well.

Hey everyone! Thanks for all the great comments. Seems like a lot of folks disappointed no MLA in 83-inch. What if I said I don’t think the 83 needs it. Wanna know why? How about why MLA would do nothing at all for QD-OLED, that sound interesting? Sound off and let me know!
77 needs it but 83 doesn’t?😅
am curious if the c3 will have the same tech given its the more affordable option of the two
I am curious about both those things. Why doesn’t the 83 need MLA? Why would having both MLA and QD-OLED do nothing at all? Great questions for me.
So an 83 inch A90J would still be worth considering?
More like LG didn’t have a reason to do MLA for 83”maybe, since the new qd oleds not coming in 83”. No competition!
Great video guys! We just wanted to pop in to clarify that we haven't received the LG G3 we bought for testing yet, so it's not actually part of our Longevity Test. If there's enough interest though, we would definitely consider adding the G3 to the Longevity Test once we finish testing it and publish our review!
100% ! When I get back from overseas in a year I want to make the perfect buying decision. I've seen just how amazing oled with my samsung phone and my LED TV is just not cutting especially with the gray blacks😢
Good to know 😅 I don't have to check about yours g3 review everyday 🤭
It's definitely of interest. Hope it joins the longevity test after you get it and review it first
I'm very much interested in knowing how the G3 compares to other premium panels.
You still doing these "Geez I wonder if it gonna burn in if I turn cnn on 24/7 ingenious test"
I quite enjoy these VS videos. Nicely done, keep them coming!
Since I am planning to upgrade my TV soon I have been watching a lot of videos. I am on a watching spree of your videos and I am amazed really. I have learned so much in a very short time. One of the most deserving subs I ever gave.
Liking this video, and the one prior. You're quickly becoming a nice addition to Vincent Teoh's excellent reviews.
So excited for your Versus reviews!!
Hello Caleb, thank you so much for the incredible amount of knowledge you have shared over time regarding different TV's and why we should or shouldn't by them. I truly appreciate what you do and I think you have one of the coolest jobs in the world! Since becoming a subscriber of your channel I have made a decision that I am going to purchase an LG C2 because of its features that matter to me most and because of budget. Before discovering your channel I had no real data to inform my TV purchases other than brand awareness. Please keep doing what you do and helping the average consumer make very informed purchasing decisions! Like Sy Sims slogan used to say, "an educated consumer is our best customer."
Thank goodness for the return of versus vids!! Hoping for some lcd versus vids too
Your videos and the questions you ask are always ON POINT! That's why I click !
A GREAT & HONEST comparison... I liked that you factored in TINT and COLOR also in the comparison. Thanks for you unbiased analysis...you do an OUTSTANDING job with all of your video.
Fantastic video! You compared all the important points and so glad you referenced the recent burn-in research taking place.
Great video Caleb. A comparison of motion handling and processing between QD-OLED and MLA would also be interesting... maybe once all the 2023 models are out!
I always like your content my man! Been a subscriber for a couple of years now! Keep going! 💪🏻
Could watch your content for days Caleb! you always do an unbiased review which I trust so keep the content coming and i'll keep consuming lol!
Great video. Comparison videos are the best way to make informed decisions when buy a TV. Loved it!!!!!
This is exactly the type of content I want, Caleb!
Hopefully when you review the S95C, you can redo this comparison with that TV. Maybe mention gaming and audio differences as well. This review seemed more tech vs tech rather than TV vs TV. Both are useful comparisons though.
Great comparison Caleb! Keep up the good work!
For me this is exactly what I am looking for when comparing something - two similar technologies etc... Thanks for this!!!
Great video Caleb, both TVs look amazing, I guess we'll have to consider other features to make a good decision between both of them. Loved the video.!!
Thanks Joelster! Always great to see you here in the comments. Keep up with your great content!
hi digital trens, i like your content and when you testing the new oled from sony the A80l ??? Very great work from you and thank you for all this videos and information over the newest multimedia technolgy :)
I really like this content. Thank you Caleb
Brilliant content, as always. Through yet accessible.
Great job as always Caleb!
Hi DT hope your well ,I'm watching this video comparison as I've just bought an LG G3 ,I'm so excited ,thanks for.helpong me choose , I'm not wall mounting it ,is the stand that bad? Thanks again 👍
loved this content, thanks :)
Nice review keep up the good work
First of all, thank you for the great reviews I always watch - Caleb you are great to watch. For AVL, where I have seen the significant difference was playing madden on A LG C9 vs the samsung S95b. With the C9, after playing (and playing the whole time) - the C9 will dim and brighten the picture while within the game. On the Samsung s95b, it never dims while playing. I know the c9 is a few years old, but that is when ABL completely is annoying and way better for our use case.
An excellent point regarding how we perceive our images. I’ve seen a C2 that, from my perspective, doesn’t seem particularly better than my CX does. I’ve seen the G2 at my local store, but thought the Sony A95K looked far superior to my eyes.
Whilst the G3 looks the business, I really want to see the 2023 Samsung and Sony QD-OLEDS before I can definitely say which type is better.
great video. will you do a video on how much better the G3 is to G2? is it worth upgrading?
Nice review. Still waiting for the new plasmas to come out.
For my particular use case in a bright natural light room, watching a lot of terrestrial SDR content, APL brightness and blacks are high on my priority list, which points me towards one of these TVs in particular. Thanks for the review & comparison.
Love your videos ❤
Very good and easy to see the diffrence you are talking about exelent
I like the way you do your videos man. Also thank you for not telling us to like and subscribe, that is so refreshing.
When do the 2023 QD models release? Can't wait for that content!!
My setup is LG C2 60’ paired with Samsung Q930b soundbar and must say its my best setup i ever had. Would be awesome if u could do more reviews on sounbars
I bought the s95b 65” last year and I love it and I play games and so far no burn in
Another great video, will wait for the Sony A95L comparison
Great job, nuanced and fair
Great video! I’m trying to make this choice right now. I want the Sony qd OLED but damn are they pricey.
I have an lg c9 65 at the moment.
Is it worth the money and the upgrade to go for an lg g3 because i want a new tv this year or should i wait ?
I would love to see a video on home cinema speaker setup value/mid/premium recommendations for the flagship TVs of the year, ie. LG G3 & Sony A95L. Especially given both of these act as a centre channel in the right set ups. Personally I’m considering the G3 and interested in value/mid recommendations for a setup that works well with this TV, taking advantage of using the TV as a centre channel.
Greetings, Caleb.
Can you confirm if the QD-OLED 2023 versions carry Deuterium?
Bless you man. Dig it
Would love to see a video on your thoughts on OLED's from a few years ago up to this year. Got an A80J last year for fairly cheap, and I'm interested how much of a leap it would be moving up to an A80L or C3
None. Your leap would be in the S90C a far superior TV
Any plans to review the LG Z2 or Z3? Apparently the Z2 was the 2022 Shootout winner, but finding quality reviews on it is difficult. Trying to see how it stacks up to the Samsung Q900C.
Great video. The s95b is so much cheaper here this has convinced me to get it.
I'll be replacing am ancient Panasonic gt30 so I'm sure I'll be blown away!
The G3 handles well against the S95C. Surprisingly so. All round the G3 came out throwing blows. Sony is now the dark horse. If they continue to focus on image accuracy rather than brightness then this year it will be pricing wars. All these tvs are amazing. Saw last year’s A95K and S95B at Best Buy also G2 and they are all close in my opinion. Granted can’t study them like you can Caleb but the differences between each as you pointed out isn’t night and day. I’m not a gamer at all but I’m leaning towards the 77” G3. Overall it has the goods.
I purchased the Sony QD Oled A95K but ended up sending it back and kept my LG C9 Oled. The reason was due to the raised grey when my blinds were up and that time of day when sunlight hit it. That’s not the case with LG Oled and it surprised me with such an expensive TV. My take is until QD Oled solves that issue it’s a no go.
great information
Are you going to do the C3 Oled next?
This dude knows what he's doing.. His reviews are truly spectacular.. Like thinking out of the box and compare 2022 Qdoleds and show us the improvement.. Good job
Have you never heard of HDTVTest?
Love the vs!
thank u for doing vs videos
Excellent stuff
Can’t wait until you are able to compare the G3 to Samsungs 2023 models. I’ve noticed in the UK spec TVs Samsung has removed the Freesat tuners in their new 2023 models I suspect it’s a cost saving exercise but I do wonder what else is now no longer included.
Love it, thank you
Good job Caleb and team. Over all, I am not a fan of unboxing…. So I like the revised format. Fwiw, other people do such videos and you guys do not add a particular added value. I think your strong suit is the actual product review. just my opinion since you asked ❤
With my LG C8 I got constant ABL dimming issues playing Cyberpunk 2077 (menus) as well as games like The Quarry, even in regular play, as it has many not black but very dark scenes that seems to really screw with ABL. Bugged me so much in numerous games I bought the service menu remote to remove it.
Moving into my first home soon. I don't know if I should wait for the G3 at its launch price, or get the c2/g2 at about 40% discount. Would love to know the MLA is worth the price and wait over the c2/G2.
Great video! Really valuable insight in this video, and I loved the approach you took. These two TV’s have polarized the AV space, and its fighting and bickering all day, everyday lol. I find it quite amusing tho, as someone who know how little difference there actually is in real world content….yet how BIG of a difference certain sides will claim. Good ole fanboyism at play…
So….can we ever get ASBL and ABL nomenclature right one day please lol?!? You called ASBL ABL in this video. Again….
I believe I was the one who sent you the specific examples of what causes ASBL dimming on LG OLED’s, way back in the day, when I was fighting it on a CX. It particularly happens in near dark, low stimulus scenes that have a constant APL, with little to no change, in HDR and DoVi. Not SDR.
I can provide you with a list of films/shows, and time stamps of movies which does cause this ASBL dimming (in the past at least). LG addressed this on the 3 series tho, when they removed the TPC option. Now what people are experiencing on the G3/C3 is the GSR dimming, which slowly dims static elements. TPC dims even moving objects, and was the root cause of the low light scenes dimming in the past. It’s why both TPC and GSR are disabled on my C2.
Btw, it’s kinda funny that the LG OLEDs are the TV’s that get more “poppy and vivid” (when using the modes like Cinema Home) LG’s really trying to reel in the Samsung fans lol. And I can’t lie…sometimes I do prefer that overbrightened image, and I do find the brighter modes on LG’s to make HDR a lot easier to watch in bright rooms. (Not intended) I mean…measure DoVi CH….that shit overtracks like 🦆…. But it’s definitely useful in certain scenarios. It will borderline blind you in a dark room too lol.
As far as having good low luminance color, where you said something to the effect it doesn’t matter…well there sir. I think even you have forgotten that HDR isn’t only about brightness, but maintaining better detail in near black/dark scenes, which include low luminance colors. I know everyone only cares about high luminance, high purity colors these days…but low level shouldn’t be ignored imo, as it is part of what makes HDR….HDR.
Buhaha 😹 The great tv expert prefers overbrightened image 🤭 And..... watching hdr in bright room 🤣 LMAO 😂 BTW How is the impression of downgrade 👇 build quality in c2? 😸
Thanks for sharing
Which upscaling engine is better?
1080p content upscaled to 4k
Love my s95b, but the ABL really kicked in frequently when I was watching The Whale. Had to bring up the settings menu several times throughout the movie
An idea caleb, would like to see a flagship Samsung TV and Q990C soundbar vs LG's offering. Q Symphony vs WOW Orchestra
I, for one, clap at Caleb’s excellent review. 👏👏👏
I believe MLA technology was previously used in 8K Z-series TVs. Maybe they rushed with implementation of MLA for mainstream TVs like G-series but it was not completely new stuff for LG.
Keep it coming!!! My next tv will be a G3….
Got my g3 65” arriving tomorrow…. Fingers crossed I’ve ordered wisely 😂
I think you've done well, from what I've read and know, I don't think you can go wrong with the LG MLA or the Sony/Samsung QD-OLEDS. It seems like they'll all be fairly close in picture quality. Enjoy your new TV.
@@carlcat thanks bud 👍
We both TVs in their optimial HDR setting? S95B using HDR10+ and LG using DV. Or were both running standered HDR10?
This was excellent!!! I am so glad you compared the G3 against the S95B plus a little of the A95K. This is what I was hoping for!! Big thumbs up!! Even though I do wish the A95K was compared just a little bit more, but maybe there just wasn’t that much of a difference between the two 2022 qd-oleds?😀
I can't wait to see the comparisons between the G3 and the newer QD-OLEDs. HDTV Test just did a video on this. It is clear you can't really go wrong with the QD-OLEDs or the LG G3.
I'm curious, will there be a separate review of the LG G3 83" since it doesn't have MLA?
I feel if somone has 83inch money, the g4 next year should increase in mla sizes
He did not make any such video 😜 Actually qd-oled and g3 have too many flaws to pull trigger 😅
@@jarekzahary HDTV Test made a video on 4/4 titled "LG G3 MLA OLED Review (vs Samsung QD-OLED + LG G2)"
He was comparing the G3 to the S90C as well as the LG G2. I don't think the S95C is available to purchase where he is yet.
@@randallsmith2521 so? 😅 It clearly shows g3 flaws like low colour volume, greyish black in bright room, retention problem 😆
Be nice to see a comparison with the Loewe brand. I sell TVs and they usually retail for twice the price, as they say because of their natural colours and sound
Hey Caleb, love your reviews but wish went a bit more in-depth in the comparison besides image. Also bit confused since you loved the G3 and in this appear to downplay , recommending the 2022 QD Oleds. I would expect these TVs to be extremely close in image quality but there are several other factors that would differentiate them in real person use, gaming, upscaling/processing, etc.
How would you compare the G3 to last year's G2?
Thank you!
Amazing Comparison 👍👍👍
This is good 👍👌 good job
After watching 5 of your videos, I went from confused to ready to make a decision to confused again to ready to make a different choice. which sounds confusing but honestly I don’t think it matters which one I go with. But I’m getting the LG G3. So thank you for that.
Please Rewiev A80L vs A90J. Is A80L brighter or A90J. Thanks!
I'd love to see VS videos in HDR, this feels a bit like when I used to see QVC selling HD TVs on an SD channel. Obviously it still won't be perfect and it depends on the end users screen but I assume it would better convey what is seen in person.
I like this content, maybe you can cover other technologies like electric cars too!
A great video to do would be a comparison between older tv (I have a 65c8 that I am upgrading to the g3) as people could see what they would now be getting over tech that is 3,4 or 5 years old. Quite a few of us I reckon 👍
Keep up the awesome work, love your reports. Cheers 🍻
I just did exactly what you are doing: 65C8 to 77G3. Delivered and mounted yesterday.
@@judeplante6241 awesome, is it a major improvement? I have very high hopes. Even having the eARC will be a good upgrade. Cheers
@@jasonkennedy2045 The luminance is VERY obvious. So is the rich color. I'm still very much in tweaking mode. Out of box is 'fine'. Trying Classy's settings. Still a little dark for my taste and still seeing some black crush (which to be fair, if RTINGS is to be believed our C8 was better with black crush than C1-2 and G1-2) so maybe not surprised G3 is a little shadow darker?
I am ashamed to say I don't have eARC sound bar (I mistakenly bought Sammy HW-950N right before eARC came out). I am $1600 into a great sound bar and cringe at thought of paying $1299 for same brand S95QR to get eARC. Especially since Andrew Robinson did 20+ minutes on how BAD it is.
@@judeplante6241 Thanks mate, I’m using the Disney and other apps so to get the Dolby atmos sound I need the eARC when linking to a denon amp. I actually got the LG GX sound bar and sub for free with the tv worth £1k that I’m going to be ebaying as simply have no need.
Actually installing my tv now with help from the Mrs which is fun. Cheers for the feedback, hope my journey goes as smooth 👍
My LG C8 ABL usually hits if watching a UA-cam podcast video with the picture of the two speakers that don't move from their boxes. Kevin Smith's Fatman Beyond episodes is one example the ABL hits pretty hard on those until I bring up the UA-cam details of the video.
What stand is that for the G3?
When can we expect a review of the Samsung QN95C?
To me at this point we have to ask which is most colour accurate though perhaps you don't care so much about colour accuracy and are happy to see a more vivid image. Aside from this, I would be looking at the practical aspects such as how well it performs for PC gaming, how many HDMI (Arc) connections does it have and how accessible are they? Does it have USB C? If so, are they powered and what charge? Are they easily accessible from the side of the tv? How nice is the operating system? What about the remote, is it illuminated? Whats the speaker sound quality like, can we connect a powered subwoofer. Lots of considerations outside of perceived image quality and price is always a factor. If the Samsung is $1,500 cheaper you could afford to add an SVS powered subwoofer...So many questions.
Wow you weren't kidding about the vs videos, this was way faster than I expected! Hoping once Sony gets off their rumps and releases their 2023 lineups you'll do a comparison between the X90L and the previous X90K as well as up against another brand's high end FALD (not mini LED) model. Sony seems very proud of their X90L this year and I'd like to see just how improved it really is
I’ll sure do what I can but it’s rare I get to hang on to the prior years’ TVs for this long. The two QD-OLEDs here are the only 2022 TVs still here!
I am eagerly looking forward to the 90L review as well!
Don’t expect much from x90L as according to Sony it’s more or less last years x95k. New x95L will be the improved version of the latter - but improved at best and not a game changer. New OLEDs for sizes 77” and below are the best TV choice you can go for. Whether 8” is sufficient difference over 77” at worse PQ will be a question comparisons will answer.
The best tech UA-cam channel around. No BS. No clickbait thumbnails. Just great content.
🤣
Is Samsung going to add in dolby vision in the future? I notice a big benefit using that on the series x and my cheap vizio m558
for the 95"+ crowd as these prices on qd-leds drop its hard to justify a projector, I'm curious to see how the new 90xl stands against this also. why don't they make the a95l bigger maybe next year?
Now that LG & Samsung’s 77 inch MLA & QD sets hit the market this year and once Sony’s qd is available, I’ll be a buyer…but not until prices drop. Anxious but patient enough to wait until black Friday if need be. By the way, two questions: Why does Sony wait so long to release their 2023 sets and what’s the difference if any, (other than size obviously) between is LG’s 77 & 83 G3’s?
I wish that you would have done more comparisons between the LG G3 and the Sony A95K. Most of yours used the Samsung S95B and there are differences between it and the A95K.
Yes ! Like Dolby vision on the Sony vs No Dolby vision on the s95b 🎉
Hard fight both TVs are so close it's like identical twins, but it's a tough decision made easy (for me anyway). Without a second thought in an instant I would go with the LG period. Easy decision that's based on LGs features, reliability and track record for pushing out updates, even to this day they are still pushing out updates to some of their older but still good models. No contest here!
Is there any difference between black levels for QD-OLED and LG's OLED? Does one do ultra-low-light scenes better than the other?
Proud owner of C1 but QD-Oled is a game changer. I’m gonna wait for Sony A95l to make my mind between S95c or Sony.
Dont wait...life is short get it now...still perfectly happy with my old LG E6 oled which i have beeen enjoying for past 6-7 yrs
Late to the part here - I have a question though - I do not have a standalone 4k Blu-ray player. I’ve just been using my ps5. Worth bothering to use the Spears & Munsil disc at this point? Or wait until I have a dedicated 4k player that has DV, HDR10+ etc available? I have a C2 - I’d like to calibrate it but I don’t wanna pay $300+ to have someone come out. I figured the disc would be close enough but maybe it doesn’t matter if I don’t have the right player to achieve the look and accuracy I’d truly like. I still love this TV mind you…
I had pretty bad ABL dimming happen on my LG C1 while watching The Batman (2022) and Dune (2021). I move the magic remote around to get the cursor to come up and the TV snaps out of it and brightens up.
As I recently had the chance to pick up a 65 inch s95b for $~1k this is a video I was looking forward to!
It's not even worth that much 😹
