    I got the Mi-8 after asking a dude on a server about it. His ‘pitch’ summed up was roughly, “yo this heli is just zen to fly, so amazing, tons of switches, zen chill flying, 11/10 zen”
    I bought it immediately. His review was accurate.

      It's the best helicopter because it has multiple ways to increase airflow for crew comfort. I like to fly with both the side window open and the fan on...it's muggy in the Caucuses in the summer.

      Yeah Zen, that describes it so well. The beast just cruises, with all that power, it just wants to FUCKING GO. Ugly - but with the right paintjob and the black cockpit mod, it can look pretty mean. And inside the view is like being in a steam punk space ship!

    Hey Spud! Good to see you flying the Hip! It's an awesome module with a ton of depth and accuracy. There's a lot to learn so if you're diving in it'll keep you busy right up until the Hind comes out.
    If you haven't taken a look yet, the official manual for the Mi-8 is really really good. It's full of procedures, specs, charts, and almost anything you might want to know. It's also pretty easy to digest if you are just searching for a specific thing.

    I started in the Huey as my first module, It was hard but after a lot hours in it it’s real easy to fly any heli! I got the Mi8 on sale and my buddies rushed me into an mp server with just basic binds. No problem flying it just need to learn how to cold start it and get some acquaintance the cockpit.

    Spud, I think you forgot to set the radios... Very important if you're going in multplayer and want to start using SRS. I'd also recommend to set up the countermeasure panel (right of the copilot) just to be on the safe side.

    Got it: push every switch up. If up is not possible push forward except for one switch, which needs to be first left and then right. Press button labeled with "start" in between the left/right switch of that switch. If copter remains silent and refuses to take off press win-home.

    I cannot wait for the Hind to be released. Started DCS back in the day with the BS in 2009 and then moved to fast jets. I prefer the slow methodical nature of rotors though. Plan the way through the valleys of death to your objective.

      My 3 choppers and my F18 are very special to me - like old friends! - but this year hopefully both my favourite choppers from my youth will be in DCS.
      I think the Hind might suit my style the best. I love how the Mi-8 flies and how stable it is, as a gun platform. I'm hoping the Hind flies similar or better. The hind with its 30mil auto cannon could be very fun! I think a lot of people were hoping for the D model but - can't have everything!

    @Spudknocker I highly appreciate any(!) love that is given to the Hip, but your startup is a still a little bit flawed. E.g. the „autopilot“ section is completely wrong. Not meant to offend. Just to learn this beautiful whirly bird. I recommend the tutorials from vsTerminus. Much to learn.

    Don't wanna play the "know-it-all", but the pilot's (i.e. captain's seat) in a helicopter is the right seat.

    • @davefloyd9443
      @davefloyd9443 3 роки тому +2

      Negative for the Mi-8. Pilot commander is left seat, co pilot navigator is right seat. The clues are:
      Doppler Hover Indicator on left dash panel, turbine fuel cutoff levers, above left seat, master arm switch above left seat, rotor brake next to left seat. Indicating main pilot seat. Doppler navigation suite on right dash panel, NS430 gps/real estate for it on right dash indicating pilot navigator seat.

    Wait a minute, I only fly with the center autopilot on...

    • @MrSpinkser
      @MrSpinkser 3 роки тому +3

      the middle one is actually a stability augmentation system and not an autopilot. The other two are very basic attitude hold „autopilots“ and should not turned on by default.

    • @vsTerminus
      @vsTerminus 3 роки тому +2

      @@MrSpinkser This is correct! And as a warning about the left and right channels (hdg and alt), they are a little wonky in their implementation and it can be tricky to get them to turn on and stay on. Heading hold won't turn on if your pedals aren't centered, and altitude hold can sometimes induce oscillations until you crash - especially at lower altitudes. This has kind of led to me not using those modes at all and just sticking to center channel + trim.
