  • When we left St Helena Bay in the late morning, we realised that we hadn't enjoyed breakfast yet. We decided to get something to eat when we arrived in Piketberg, which we did. We enjoyed a delicious and reasonably-priced breakfast for lunch. After that, we started exploring the town, and what a beautiful town it is, with so much interesting history. The old buildings were gorgeous and in excellent condition, which we loved. The sports fields were in very good shape, and the mosaic murals just across from Rhino Park were stunning, depicting the town's history. We had a wonderful time in Piketberg, it is a busy town well worth a visit. #DustBugs #dustbugstravel #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #westerncape #piketberg #sthelenabay

    Living in Windhoek, Namibia and going to school and university in Cape Town, we used to travel on the main highway north/south past Piketberg at least eight times every year, but never broke our journey to call in at that lovely country town. One vista that always stood out is that lovely white and red church. When we saw that we knew that we were nearing our destination of Cape Town.

    Hi you two! Another beautiful historic WC town. Are they not all? Trees, parks, neat old buildings. The old DRC is an amazing building, given its age. Your (expert😊) drone views topped it all, as usual. Thank you for taking me along. Until next time, keep safe!

    Hi guys what a lovely clean and tidy town and the streets being swept . On the way in the massage cement works mind blowing the workers accommodation forming its own small village .Piketburg has plenty of churches the MEC church was a new one on me. The play park with the old roller loved it. Big synagogue so interesting great its still in use as a museum and medical center. The station looked in use and you got the name boards. Shame about the litter but the recycling plant is positive. As always love the drone footage. The NGK church was stunning the carving on the pulpit was amazing .the place has a interesting history going back to 1705 6 in this time in uk treaty of union between England and Scotland happened crazy and again the Huguenot connection loved the story of the farmers taking their produce to Cape Town amazing video thanks for taking me along cheerio till the next one

    Ahhhhh, the "g' in Afrikaans. It throws native English-speaking people for a loop. It's such a pretty town. The Western Cape is not in lack of them.

    What a beautiful clean town. So ironic to find so much litter outside the recycling plant. Love the old synagogue building. I thought Piketberg was in the Swartland. My ouma came from Porterville which is nearby, and she spoke with a beautiful Swartland bry! Love the trim park with the beautiful mosaics. Curtis, I will fight you for that peppermint crisp tart!!!😂❤

    Beautiful town steeped in history with glorious old buildings. The pulpit in the DR church was spectacular, showcasing master craftsmanship. Nice to see an old synagogue being preserved despite it no longer being in use. Awesome drone footage as always. Thank you for the visit.

    Well there is that old saying " Swak Piketberg"...and I still do not know where that saying comes from. Maybe it is from the rugby because I do not remember watching a game that they ever won. Yes it is nice to see Piketberg again, nowadays I just drive past but when I was in primary school our family use to visit Piketberg about every December school holiday. My grandparents on my mother's side use to live in Berg street, and the rest of the family scatterd in Piketberg. The last time I saw my grandfather's house it was some sort of ANC office...I suppose my grandpa is turning in his grave. So many memories coming back to me now... If you get the chance you must drive up the mountain to see all the fruit farms at the top.

      I've never heard of 'Swak Piketberg' before, but you can read the short piece at the link below for a possible explanation. 😁

      @DustBugsTravel OK so I heard that one about the graveyard and thought someone made it up. After watching your video last night I sat for about an hour with memories of our visits and family playing through my mind. And so many questions now but not a soul alive to answer them.

    That NG Church is stunning. I couldn't wait for you to go and see it. My mom in law also told me to only buy potatoes that come from the Sandveld. I must remember to look out for them.

      Our visits to both these towns are a reflection of where our channel was in the growth process. Our content has evolved somewhat since then. 🚙😁 There are just too many other places waiting to be explored, so we won't be revisiting them to make new videos.

    Please note that labourers get paid weekly, so as to avoide towns on a Friday and Saterday......Thats in the Western Cape 😂😂
    Where do you guy/girl stay, if I may ask?

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  5 днів тому +1

      We're well aware that farmworkers have to visit their towns in order to buy supplies once they get paid and have seen this in many of the 500+ towns we've visited. 😁 So any reference to this in any of our videos is a mere observation on our parts. My wife, Sonia and I live in Strand in our home province of the Western Cape.
