  • Made in 1998 by Jonah Kaplan and starring comedian Marc Maron. Kaplan wrote it and directed it. Maron contributed additional writing. It was shot in Brooklyn. Fans of Maron and his WTF podcast will definitely enjoy this.
I sound edited this for Jonah and had a great time. You can read more about the film's history at my blog: peelslowlynsee....

The desire to prove to others that you are normal makes you abnormal.
    Genius film.

The brilliant thing about this short film is that for years (I first saw this in high school in 2002.) I thought he was just honestly so neurotic and self conscious that he somehow in an effort not to be creepy to this woman he did pretty much exactly everything a stalker would do (even the fantasies he was having the whole time), but even now 20 years later I wonder if that isn’t what all stalkers tell themselves while hiding behind some hapless girlfriend “and two pairs of gap socks.” Lol. Absolutely still holds up after all this time and I’ve always loved Marc for this performance. 🙌🏻

Taped this years ago on VHS. So glad I found it here so I can toss the tape! So many shorts aren't available.

i love this and how you added the internal dialogue and everything. because of personal experience (except i was a cyberstalker), it really made me think about things.
and i related to this internal monologue because it's a similar way of thinking i had, and i was tug-a-waring between my feelings of guilt and obsession, and fantasies about that person.
thank you for posting this, it lets some of us feel better since we're not the only ones and we dont want to believe ourselves to be bad people when we have made a bad action. this was a good watch, it hit

This is my worst nightmare. I once "followed" this guy closely all the way across campus without even realizing it. We were just going to the same building but he told his friends right when he got there that I was following him specifically.

    "Additional Dialogue by Marc Maron"
LOL. This was all Marc, and if it wasn't then I hope Jonah does a podcast.

I don't care for Marc's politics but I love him as a comedian and as a human being. I've listened to his podcasts for years. This was brilliant.

How do the Duplass Brothers become famous from THIS IS JOHN while Marc Maron has made something this brilliant, yet continued to struggle for a decade before getting recognized for his talent because of a freakin' podcast? I mean, seriously. WTF?!
