Glen I found your videos by accident and how refreshing to watch with out all the complicated explanations as with others. I find they are easy to follow and simple in their instructions. I now use the videos as my go to for advise. Keep up the great work.

    Hi Glen
How much is the release done by pulling and turning in the swing letting the club spring off rather then just throwing the club? How quick are you feeling the release?

Thank you so much for your question @golfgreats5527.
I personally don’t think of the golf swing as a ‘pulling’ motion at all.
Turning (the hips) through towards the target is of course a factor and can help players release the club better. However, this is dependent upon the ideal sequencing. I.e. not just spinning the shoulders.
Hope this clarifies things for you.
      Cheers
      Glen

Sounds like a stupid question, but since this particular lesson is for your driver does the same technique apply to irons as well? Thanks!

Thank you for your excellent question.
Essentially, yes. Although some tour pros utilise a different, less active release for some of their shorter shots. This is of course, very advanced.
      Cheers

Hi Glen, I find it very difficult to get the timing right, to early a big hook to late a push slice. I set up for a draw and that works most of the time but if my timing is a little late then hit it to the right and on our course out of bounds. Is it something I just have to keep on working at ?. Thanks for the advice.

Thank you for you question Graham. Of course, very difficult to diagnose without seeing you hit some shots.
It does sound like there isn’t enough leg and body rotation through impact. Are you relying on just your hands to release the club? The release should include the whole body. Just theorising though.
      Cheers
      Glen

Hi Glen thanks for your reply. You are spot on with not enough body rotation through impact. This results in a bit of a chicken wing. I have tried everything suggested on UA-cam, videoed my swing and looked for flaws that could be stopping me from rotating can’t sort it out. I have no problem rotating after impact so it’s not a physical problem. I had some lessons from a local coach and he worked on some things but still can’t rotate enough at impact. Very frustrating and really affects consistency.

Excellent job Glen in explaining and demonstrating how to get the proper release in the golf swing. I like all three of your recommended drills and see that all could be quite useful in practicing a proper release. Since I started paying more attention to my release, I am getting more distance and consistency in my golf shots. Well Done Glen!

Thank you so much for your feedback John. Yes, it’s a crucial part of the golf swing!

Are you advocating a roll release where the forearms roll through impact while the body is also rotating towards the target? Then it’s all about the timing to control the release.

      @AussieGolfPros  10 місяців тому +1

      Hi John
Thank you for your question. Yes, absolutely!
That timing is very much affected by the sequencing of the downswing: transfer of pressure, rotation of the body, followed by release of the arms, wrists, hands and club shaft.
      Hope this helps.
      Glen

Thanks Glen! I agree with you on the sequencing! I was completely out of rhythm on Wednesday and my quality of shots showed. I was hitting them straight, but not as long as I would have liked! Work In Progress!!!! :-) @@AussieGolfPros
