Juwel Easy Feed automatic fish feeder review - how to use it and how long it lasts

  • In this video I show how to use the battery operated Juwel Easy Feed automatic fish feeder. It is a small automatic feeder which I bought from Pet City in Brisbane for about $65 (it came with the batteries in the pack).
    You can set it to either 1 feed per 24hrs, or 2 feeds per 24hrs. You can adjust how much food it releases with each feed to an extent.
    For my tank of ~25 medium-large sized African Cichlids (+3 Bristlenose catfish), the food lasted just over 4-days when releasing the largest amount it can twice per day which was more than enough for my fish. It can last about 9 feeds altogether on that setting.
    Overall I am really happy with it's performance for the cost, even though it is quite small it is still useable for larger tanks. If I was to go away for 2-weeks, I would buy another one and set them on 1 feed per day on the lowest setting and I think that this would work just fine, as I wouldn't want to overfeed them anyway. I probably wouldn't leave them longer than that though. I will post another video if I ever do that!
    I hope you found this video helpful, and please let me know in the comments if you have any questions :)

    Just the review I needed! Some other reviews of this product confused me about the 2 feed settings, but good to see it in action here. I normally get my parents to feed if I'm out of town, but we are going on a family trip later this year so I'll get this feeder to cover us whilst we're away

    The good thing about this feeder is that some one can come and refill the feeder for you if your going away for a longer period of time. That way they don't have to know how much to feed your fish just how to refill the feeder. I have one of these for my Jewel Rio 400 Cichlid tank and it works just as shown in this video.
    Great channel Kaity I'm about 8 months into my first try at these fish and I am having very good success thanks to UA-cam channels like yours.

    Btw. If you have red blinking indicator on the Juwel feeder, gently spin the drum manually some degrees towards you or so that the text “Juwel aquarium” is pointing towards you. Then you can try by pressing the ‘M’ button to manually spin the drum. And for example test the amount of food it will dispense.

    Thank you for this! Do you happen to know any battery operated aquarium heaters that will kick on & take over in case of a power outage?

    • @Kaityscichlids
      @Kaityscichlids  2 роки тому +1

      That's a good question, there's not any that I'm aware of. I know some people buy back up generators for running their whole fish tank in the event of an outage, but I don't have anything like that

    • @Kaityscichlids
      @Kaityscichlids  Рік тому +1

    Great video ;) Do you only feed them pellets ? Not any flakes/spirulina? Also what food would you recommend for Mbuna and peacocks ?

    • @Kaityscichlids
      @Kaityscichlids  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you 😄 Yes, I just pellets - I feed them a mix of New Life Spectrum Thera A and Algae Max, and some Absolute Colour pellets. Especially with Mbuna you don't want to feed them too much of a protein heavy diet like brine shrimp or black worms because they can't digest it well, and need lots of fibre in their diet. So I find pellet foods with algae in them tend to work well for this. I have a video on how they coloured up with the Absolute Colour food too which I'll link 😊

      You can connect an air pump to this model, which is supposed to keep the air flowing through the food chamber, keeping the food dry.

  • @TP-pi2ge
    @TP-pi2ge 2 роки тому +1

    I bought one of those two years ago and unfortunately it was not a good experience. The humidity made the food wet and locked the opening. And the feeding didn't work properly as well.
