The issue number isn't in Roman numerals, it's in modern western figures No. 10,763. The Roman numerals simply tell us this newspaper is volume 29 (XXIX) and since a volume in newspaper terms usually means a calender year, that's not so hard to work out. If the edition number were in Roman numerals it would read as MMMMMMMMMMDCCLXIII
The video does a poor job of explaining it, but pretty clearly the WhatCulture producers do understand that point. They get that 10,763 issues of a daily newspaper is equivalent to somewhat more than 29 years.
2:30 I speak some Japanese and that does not say "Manichi Truman" The one on the left says "Burbank Truman, Everyday,,, 24 hours" The one on the right says "Please watch Burbank Meryl everyday" Also pretty sure the large kanji on the very top of Meryl's sign says "wife".
13:33 If that amount of days is roughly 29.5 years, then the newspaper would be on its 30th year, so it should read "Year XXX", not "Year XXIX"... The first year (Year I) of a newspaper is between it being 0 days old and 365 days (1 year) old (or 366 if leap year). Year II starts the day the newspaper celebrates 1 year of existence and goes until the eve of celebrating 2 years of existence. And so on. The producers made a mistake.
I can’t believe people complained about some of the shots. It was obvi hidden cameras. While reality shows of today were new back then, people were still very familiar with hidden camera joke and prank shows.
I'd have thought the writers were thinking of James Stewart for streetname inspiration - The guy from "Its a wonderful life" and "Vertigo". Not Patrick Stewart from "Lifeforce" and "Corrie"
Not only being a clown trapped behind bars, but you also should've mentioned the flyer that said Free Truman Rally, since someone later comes forward to help free Truman from the prison he was in and people rally for him. Nice foreshadowing there.
I noticed the weird design of Truman’s ring, but am kicking myself for never realizing it was obviously a camera. I definitely missed its journey through the film. I never clocked that he got it from his “dad” or that he gave it back to him.
I would imagine that a lot of the character of Truman would be similar to Jim Carrey's real life. A "clown" = comic, the eyes of the world watching him. I would have no doubt that when he was playing this role, he brought a lot of his own personal experience into the character.
I love how they ended it like things would suddenly be ok. Umm......this 30 year old man has never ACTUALLY lived in the real world...and now..... Well, good luck with that pal, cause YOUR FAMOUS!
Christof made that argument to Truman in their final exchange: "There's no more truth out there than there is in the world I created for you. Same lies. The same deceit. But in my world, you have nothing to fear." And that's clearly all true. But Truman rejects the argument. A central message of the movie is that the control Christof exerts over Truman is tyrannical and wrong. There is nothing in the movie that suggests "things [will] suddenly be ok" for Truman outside the dome. It's just that, for the first time, his life will be his own. That's what the movie is arguing for.
@@georgenewman4464 My larger point was things would be FAR FAR FAR FAR worse for Truman than just the average individual. EVERYTHING about his ENTIRE life was orchestrated. The Japanese posters on the wall at 2:32 just state the names of Truman and Meryl on the right sides in Katakana. As Japanese uses syllables it's phonetically written. And the last name comes first. "Baabanku Toruuman" and "Baabanku Meriru" Truman's poster additionally states sth. about "24 hours" (most probably a day) and Meryl's contains the Kanji for "day" and a 7. Which takes us to 24/7, I suppose. 😉

I'd love to see The Malcolm show, just to see how much darker it originally was.
I thought that was Breaking Bad?
2:30 I speak some Japanese and that does not say "Manichi Truman"
The one on the left says "Burbank Truman, Everyday,,, 24 hours"
The one on the right says "Please watch Burbank Meryl everyday"
Also pretty sure the large kanji on the very top of Meryl's sign says "wife".
Nope, the Freemasons obsess about details and don't make mistakes. They wanted to show 9/11.
I think you're incorrect on 15. Stewart St. was probably named after Jimmy Stewart, not Patrick Stewart.
And Barrymore named after John, not Drew!
The moment when Truman's dad showed up, that solidified his belief that he was somehow being watched.
"A much darker, always raining New York City." You mean London?
Too many dystopian movies ("Bladerunner" the originaly anyway) are shown in rainy weather. Oy.
I can’t believe people complained about some of the shots. It was obvi hidden cameras. While reality shows of today were new back then, people were still very familiar with hidden camera joke and prank shows.
Truman in a clown suit behind bars is also a reference of Pagliacci or Laugh clown Laugh
I'd have thought the writers were thinking of James Stewart for streetname inspiration - The guy from "Its a wonderful life" and "Vertigo". Not Patrick Stewart from "Lifeforce" and "Corrie"
The Issue number of the Newspaper is phenomenal...
I hate to be pedantic but the paper is called the island times. If you pause you can read it.
You called the paper the "seaside times" but it literally says "the island times" on the paper.
Thanks Jules, your last message really made me step back
One of the advertisements says "Free Range Chicken"....
Just realized that the travel agent poster of the lightning striking the plane predicts the format of memes in the future.
Wow. Good catch!
And, don't forget, that's Napoleon watching from the bath. :)
lmao I developed the truman show delusion way before I ever saw this movie
About to re watch this right now...
The dude is going to be LITERALLY unable to function in the real world. Think about his social interactions HIS ENTIRE LIFE.....his fame will only last the first meeting or two with new people, then he goes from being a quirk to a person people are annoyed to be around for being so.....stupid.
@@georgenewman4464 Basically: I don't think he would be capable of even surviving in the world....let alone be happy.
The end was not terribly satisfying. Almost like they cut a chunk out at the end.
They made that place by me in Florida called sea side
Pretty sure it's named after Jimmy Stewart and John Barrymore
I'm surprised nobody noticed Truman was a pot smoker! When rooting through the trunk, a small baggie appears for a split second...and it doesn't take much imagination to see it's a baggie with herb inside!
I did; I thought it was obvious for everyone...
The Truman show was filmed like 20 mins down the road from me in Seaside Florida.
How lucky you are to live there
The Moon one was my favourite! 😮🤯
Patrick Stewart? Maybe Jimmy Stewart? Drew Barrymore? Maybe John Barrymore?
The island times, not seaside. Good video just thought I'd point it out because what is the UA-cam comment section for.
forgot to mention that the travel agent has a dome camera under her bib too
Surely the "Stewart street" is a reference to... James Stewart?
Truman is brutally established in the scene on the unfinished bridge.
We used to know people with the last name "Truman". They were Church friends of my parents. Nowadays, more and more cameras as being set up all over on out to highways which we all find useful for viewing road conditions.
I once believed I was in a holodeck, like "Star Trek" and everything around me was an illusion.
The title is a truncation of "20 Existential Quandaries You Probably Missed About The Truman Show".
He was afraid of water because it killed his dad... once his dad came back, his fear went away
Is that even his real dad??? .-.
Wooow this was amazing! Thank you! Well done! ♥
@Tom Whalen Hello
"it also shows the number of issues in roman numerals, as well as in english"...... uuuuuh.... if anything, it'd be in arabic ;)
I remember a recent meme where it was being said that kids were now being taught Arabic math in school, and American parents were losing their shit, saying that that was unacceptable and infringing on our education system.
Oh, the low intelligence of many in this country.
@@StageRight123 i feel bad for you man. it must be like being locked in the asylum when youre totally sane
@@bigpapadrew Eh, I'm in California, so people are pretty progressive and educated out here (not all of course). Critical thinking in other parts of the country though, not so much.
They are called Arabic numerals. They were actually invented in India, though.
Not Patrick Stewart it is named after James Stewart. You think they have James Lancaster and Patrick Stewart? It is classic actors, Patrick Stewart was only known for Star Trek at the time.
I watched this video with the mindset that there was nothing new you could tell me about Truman Show.....and I was wrong!
One of my favorite movies.
Lots of truths in the movie. We all are living in a Truman show.
Imagine a channel made by kids trying to tell us about stuff most of us grew up with and getting a bunch of the details wrong. Amazing. Enjoy the money, I guess
I thought the bib round the travel agents neck as she came in was to make Truman think he had interrupted her lunch.
Bro I literally just UA-camd the exact title of this video 3-4 weeks ago after watching the Truman show and couldn’t find a good video and here this video is in my suggestions today… crazy /:
"There are hidden cameras everywhere." How is that on this list? Were there people who watched this movie and did not realize that there were cameras everywhere in Truman's world??
If respecting privacy and minding one's own life was thrown out the window, and the exact opposite was done instead.
The Japanese posters on the wall at 2:32 just state the names of Truman and Meryl on the right sides in Katakana. As Japanese uses syllables it's phonetically written. And the last name comes first.
"Baabanku Toruuman" and "Baabanku Meriru"
Truman's poster additionally states sth. about "24 hours" (most probably a day) and Meryl's contains the Kanji for "day" and a 7. Which takes us to 24/7, I suppose. 😉
