Acting... I got the acting bug a while back, but I got very few parts, mostly work as an extra. It was during doing extra work that I ran into Chris Sarandon. He played a lot of parts, but the one that will always stay with me is his role as a vampire in the movie "Fright Night" with Roddy McDowell. Sarandon could go from being a cheerful, friendly, next door neighbor kind of guy to an evil, bloodthirsty vampire in the blink of an eye. In the movie in which he starred where I met him, we were shooting a bar scene. Even though the bar had a friendly atmosphere, it was still a DARK place. I was positioned at the bar itself, which was a kind of gloomy spot, and Sarandon was at a table. When they took a break to reposition the lights and cameras, he came to the bar right next to me to ask for a drink. With him in the gloomy low lighting, I couldn't help but remember him as the vampire in the other movie, and I eased away from him a bit because he was that good at playing an evil monster. Sure, the movie was done very tongue-in-cheek, but his portrayal as the vampire was spot on. Actors who can pull off that kind of acting are great in my book, even if they don't get the recognition that other actors get from bigger roles.
