It's a shame no one even knows what real country music is now I'm only 17 and hate this new stuff. I wish George strait could keep playing my whole life he is by far my favorite country singer and wish I could meet him someday.

I have to add Garth Brooks and Toby Keith to the list along with George.
Nobody can beat the hurt in Paychecks voice when he sang this but George sure does come close. It’s great to see classics like this brought back to life and able to be enjoyed by another generation. Also love the violin/fiddle in this version.
I dont know, Daryle Singletary is probably my favorite cover of this song. Hes damn close to Paycheck when it comes to emotion.

Johnny sang it well and put his heart into it. However, George does it better IMO. Not even close.
He played this in Tulsa last year. It was so hauntingly beautiful. I couldn't help but cry.
I love George but Johnny Paychecks version has been my favorite since I can remember, you can just hear the pain and he has that longing twang in his voice that is more high pitch than George’s and it just works, can’t explain it but Paychecks version will bring me to tears almost every time.

I love this song...my sister has always played the violin since high school and played with the Denver Sympathy some. She in her 80's now, and hasn't played in a while. I'm sure her precious violin is all tucked away. This song always makes me cry but I love it.

I am blessed to have had George Strait music in my life since the 80’s. I’ve been to more than a dozen GS concerts over the years. King George is like a part of my family.

Damn first time hearing this and be danged if he didnt hit a grand slam or however you wish to describe it but it is absolutely AWESOME!!!
This is obviously great and had I never heard Daryle Singletary I may feel like this is better than I feel like it is. After playing this I went and played a live version of Daryle and now there is no doubt in my mind that there was not a finer version of this than by Singletary. Of course Paycheck was incredible. The studio version of Daryle featuring Paycheck's recitation from the hospital bed is by far the greatest version ever recorded. This was the last song Paycheck sang AND the last song Singletary sang.
