How ironic given the situation today that Yemen used to be Jewish, and Jordan (or most of what is Jordan today), Syria, Lebanon, and Egypt used to be Christian.
Yemen used to be Jewish until Israel was established and started abducting their kids so they could be used for farm labor with Operation: Magic Carpet.

From the earliest moments possible humans will pick up a unique looking stone. For some reason we then naturally try to build something with them. As a fish swims, as a monkey climbs, people build.
Even in Hinduism, the oldest god Shiva is worshipped through a tall upright stone called Shiva-linga. All the other gods & goddesses are worshipped through their idols but Shiva is worshipped through Shiva-linga.

It would be impossible to go around the temple since it was located in a corner of old Jerusalem, that means that there were walls on each side of the temple. That would make it impossible to go around the entire temple, and if you mean going around the Holy Place, it would not be possible either because of the shape of the esplanade.
Spectacular study. As a Muslim, even though we know most of this in passing, that there were other gods and kabahs, this amount of detail is hardly revealed as well as the excellent connection to more ancient religions of which I'm also a scholar!
It means, the claim that Kaabah build by Ibrahim could be lied not historical..the claims that quran full of logic and scients could be false claim or a lie
So true especially since saudi's are removing islamic history as well. Making it so modern does not help people or kids to have a picture of how things were.
It would also make sense that they would when they were becoming nomadic, they tended to be towards a moon worship because if you’re in a hot desert, it doesn’t make any sense to travel like that in the middle of the day where you can die from exhaustion. It makes more sense to hunker down in the daytime and then observe the moon in the stars at night soit makes all sorts. It makes all the difference or it makes all the sense.

This answered a lot of my questions and the history of Arabia. The tawaf or going round 7 times could also be because of the silk road which had many buddist temples on the way. They traded more than silk i am sure and also because arabs traded with many other countries by sea. Romans also used christianity to hold more power as the pre christian romans had many gods and were very divided. The world back then was so different to what it is today!
Absolutely fascinating! This fills in so much history for me. I had no idea there were other cubes or other gods represented within them or that they were water wells!
They did. But most likely they would take a share. I found a piece which adds info on this during my research, not much though. In the Biography of Prophet Muhammad by Ibn Hisham you can find that once there was a man who tried to steal the treasure at the bottom of the well, but, apparently, there was a giant snake inside of the well, protecting it, with the head as big as a sheep. Most likely this was a story to scare the people off and not try to get the treasure stored at the bottom. Regardless, what we know is that a door was then added to the basic structure of the Kaaba, the level was raised above ground and probably closed by key and guarded day and night so that nobody, except the priests in charge of the 'istiqsam entered.
Kaaba means “cube” or “cup” which is a loan word from nearest Indo European languages such as Greek, Kurdish, Old Iranian or Latin. So the names tell lots about development of a religion and the set of laws we call religion today are actually “regimes” of that time.
In Sanskrit Kupa means well. Perhaps the word Kaaba would have come from the cube structure near the Kupa (well) that could be identified from distance to any thirsty person. In Hindu Shiva temples of India, the well water inside the temple is considered sacred and equivalent to Ganga. Perhaps the gam-gam sound of Ganga changed to zam-zam which is also considered sacred. The water of Ganges that comes from ice melting from the Himalayas contains high minerals that it doesn’t go bad even if one keeps it for many years. Therefore it is common practice for Hindus even today to store Ganga in a tiny sealed copper pot and administer it to quench the final thirst of a dying person. It is considered that he would rest in peace. The word Shiva in Sanskrit translates to Peace. And the word Islam too means the same.
Kupa is not Sanskrit. Its hindi. The Hindu faith always flourished near fast flowing perennial rivers. People of yester years weren't that mad that they will go into a desert country without water and vegetation and speaking strange languages. Sugriv of Valmiki Ramayana speaks of Middle eastern public and of course it was pre islamic. He says don't venture into their lands or pluck and dates from their trees. These arabic land people are very quarrelsome and grumpy. They have some sheeps and dates nothing else to survive with except stealing and warring. Shiva doesn't mean peace in Sanskrit. The word Shiva has been ordained to Rudra later on. Rather Rudra is the God of destruction storms and thunder and he is the giver of grief which brings in tears. The Indus Valley script which has recently been deciphered supports the facts laid out here.

Great vid. I wonder what the English epithet of "Hubal" translates to be. I assume it is a compound of "Hu and Baal". Many "-bal" name variants pop up around the Semitic world, including Hani-bal of Punic War fame.
Hey! I would suggest you to take a look at our documentary called: "GOD IS.." on this channel because it rightly addresses exactly this point, how the name of god, and its characteristics change through time from Sumeria to modern times. Baal means "Lord", and it was the most common name the Middle Eastern Civilizations would call their most important gods to avoid pronouncing their names! The Hu- in front we dont really know. Some hypothesized "Lord of the Springs"
In Islam actually Hajar Aswad stone's color isn't black but white, Hajar Aswad stone turn into black slowly coz many of sinner touch Hajar Aswad stone. But idk in reality Hajar Aswad really really originally white or already black in the first time (this story is fake).
Hajar-e-Aswad is a cosmic stone originally almost light blue in color. The stone first broken during the Mesopotamian from yemeni raids when the king asked Arabs to pledge allegiance to him. That is when for the first time the stone was put together and binded with iron alloy. The second time during the ottoman empire it was stolen by Ismailis and taken away. The then caliph was so angry that he gave the Shia’s of Persia a deadline to convince the Ismailis to return it or else he would destroy the entire Persian land, that is when the broken pieces of the Hajar was returned and one stone was retained in Turkey before sending the rest back to arabia and a mold compound of carbon (Tar) was put together to glue the hajar in place and a stronger metal alloy was used to case it so that no one could ever steal it. This is the contemporary state of the hajar. None of the ottoman caliphs ever performed hajj. They instead went and saw the Hajar (the stone that was retained) in the Mehmet Pasha mosque (named after the then Prime Minister). That stone is still there in turkey.
Imagine Alexander the Great didn't die at a young age, but was allowed to conquer Arabia as he wanted to do. Christianity and Islam may not have arisen at all. But maybe Buddhism would have been the main religion of Europe and the Middle East or maybe the whole of Eurasia. As the Greek in Afghanistan converted to Buddhism and were the once who introduced the Buddha sculptures like those in Afghanistan and everywhere else in Asia. Christianity itself was heavily influenced by Buddhism and Taoism, if you read the evangelical writings closely.

We worship Murthys or Vigrahas , the statues of gods carved in stone housing the force of god and harnessed through mantras and yantras and then they are worshipped as the embodiment of infinite, all pervading almighty’s limited grace . The power and impact of the deity increases as the force is harnessed and invited through mantras into the vigraha or the stone statues consecrated in a unique vedic way. It increases day by day.

Hey Abhinnakhale, Thank you for the comment. Yes, "Syncretism" is the best word to describe it. The reason I did not use it is because the script is already severely loaded with unusual words, Arabic words and more. As such, as this content is not intended to reach only students who are already familiar with these terms, I try to make it simpler by not adding too many academic words, and avoid making it too boring. As many people are not familiar with words such as "Syncretism", an option is to write between commas a quick explanation. But if we are to do this for every other academic term, it would make the video inevitably way, unnecessarily, longer. There are many terms that could have been used in this video. I tried my best to maintain efficiency for every sentence without making the viewer feel too much pain watching it :,). Cheers!

To be honest. Whichever the religion, as long as a human needs to create phyisical objects out of whatever the material, doesn't matter if as small as a talisman, or as big as a temple, then any object which is not abstract can be considered an idol, and any form of religious ritual as a form of idolatry.

Yes. There is also a:"How geopolitics created Judaism and Christianity too". This is a channel of history not of theology. All religions are equally criticized. You should not assume the religious beliefs of people based on the language they speak
It’s about time that Islam is fairly critiqued and criticized in a historical way. For so long, people have either were kept from researching its origins or feared to go against the Islamic narrative otherwise their life could be in danger. The same thing happened for a good period of time when the Crusaders and Roman Catholic priests, but the Bible has been scholarly critiqued for centuries at this point now. It’s time we know more about Islam and the Quran receive the same treatment
I wish paganism still existed in Arabia there would have been more peace, harmony and humanity. Coming together in beliefs and life styles, synchronisation is key to success and harmony.
In 8:03, what you actually meant to show/write/type was: “Biography of Prophet Muhammad”, by Ibn Ishaq as edited by Ibn Hisham (NOT “Ibn Kathir” which you wrote/typed) However, it was correctly written/typed, when showing it in the “Main Sources”, in the early part of the video in 2:01, i.e.: “The Biography of Prophet Muhammad, (Sirat Rasul Allah) by Ibn Ishaq as edited by Ibn Hisham.” 👍
Hey, thank you for the comment, we made a mistake upon revision. But not exactly the one you pointed out. Thank you! Here is the mistake: Ibn Ishaq's and Ibn Kathir's works are two different books. Ibn Ishaq's Sīra: This is an early biography of Prophet Muhammad (Sīrat Rasūl Allāh), compiled by Ibn Ishaq in the 8th century. As mentioned earlier, the original work of Ibn Ishaq is lost, and what we know of it largely comes through the later scholar Ibn Hisham, who edited and abridged it, and Al-Tabari, who quoted from it in his own historical works. Ibn Kathir's Sīra: Ibn Kathir wrote his own separate biography of the Prophet, called Al-Sira al-Nabawiyya (which is the actual mistake we have made in the video, I dont know where was my mind when I was writing it). Ibn Kathir's work, written in the 14th century, was not a revision or continuation of Ibn Ishaq’s work, but rather his own independent composition. However, Ibn Kathir does frequently cite Ibn Ishaq's material, along with other sources, and often evaluates or criticizes Ibn Ishaq’s narrations based on hadith standards of authenticity. So, while Ibn Kathir uses Ibn Ishaq’s biography as a source among others, he wrote a distinct book with his own analysis and additional references. They are not the same book, but two separate works from different periods. When talking about Ibn Kathir, it refers to Al-Sira al-Nabawiyya. We will write a comprehensive list in the pinned comment above to show our mistakes and put your name for the contribution. Thank you

Prophet Abraham has built the Kaaba, it was the symbol of monotheism back then. Then the Arabs corrupted their believes and fell into polytheism with statues and other divinities. The Kaaba was still sacred for them. Islam put an end to the polytheism practices and brought monotheism back.
Someone let David Wood and Apostate Prophet see this, I want to hear their commentary over this documentary. Very nice video by the way, I appreciate the illustrations and the way you included sources for each excerpt. Although it is very islam-centric in terms of eye witness evidence, but I understand how theres a lack of any other records other than islamic ones, where the lack of archaeological evidence did not help this either.
We genuinely want to be noticed by them :), so if by any chance you or other viewers somehow manage to bring our videos on pre islamic Arabia to their attention, we would be immensely happy. While creators like David Wood, Apostate Prophet, Esoterica, Religion for Breakfast, Alex O'Connor, and others tend to 'talk' about the intricacies of religions, we really strive to bring those details to life visually, thanks to my excellent editor. Creating a video about pre-Islamic Arabia is quite challenging. There’s very little archaeological evidence, and even when some exists, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia restricts scholars from examining the Kaaba, the surrounding soil, and much of Mecca and Medina to verify it. The few literary sources we have are not only scarce but also biased-and sometimes even fake! For example, the letter Muhammad supposedly sent to Byzantine Emperor Heraclius is widely considered a forgery created after his death. However, if you're careful with the details, you can still often find pieces of historical information in these 'biased' sources that give you a valuable glimpse into that period, such as the fact that there were many statues around the Kaaba, how it changed in shape, what was put inside of it, the well at the bottom that later dried in which the treasures were given as offerings, the fact that there were many wells all around Mecca prompting to make us think that somehow, the existence of the Kaaba was tightly linked to that of water in the area (in pre-islamic times)"

As a Muslim watching this video, based on my understanding, the Kaabah outside of Mecca is not truly the Kaabah. Instead, it represents the original teachings of Allah’s religion, the faith of Prophet Ibrahim (Hanif Religion), but it was later added to by the Arabs before Islam, who constructed a structure resembling the Kaabah and claimed it to be the original Kaabah. I hold firmly to my belief that the original Kaabah is in Mecca, and the Black Stone was not originally black; during Prophet Ibrahim’s time, the stone was white. I do not worship the stone; even if the stone or the Kaabah were no longer there, I would still direct my worship toward the Kaabah in Mecca because that is Allah’s command. If Allah were to command a change of direction-even to Antarctica-I would follow it, as long as the command comes through His messenger.

Thank you for this. On a side note, I’ve always thought the “360 statues” was supposed to refer to the year (365 days), and that maybe the pre-Islamic polytheism had a daily prayer aspect to it, which would be something else still present.
Hey SleepyPotterFan! the 360 statues, most likely, according to a British historian who's name I forgot (xD, sorry), refer to the Lunar calendar, which was widely used in Arabia back then, made of 12 months of 30 days each, so 360 statues. Well, according to Patricia Crone Mecca is not the birthplace of Islam. It wasn’t an oasis, a pilgrimage destination or even a stop for the caravans! Mecca is not mentioned on any map prior to the birth of the story of Islam! Nothing could be traded from Mecca, the city produced nothing ! Who built the Kaaba and why, remains a total mystery. Everything we know about Islam comes from a biography written by Ibn Ishaq written two hundred years after the death Muhammad in Badgdad under the Abbasid Khalifat. He claims that his biography was inspired by the work of Ibn Islam that no one has ever seen. Please also remind your viewers that “Muhammad” is not a name in the Hejaz. It’s a title. So we don’t know the name of the prophet of Islam!
You've said it well, "according to Patricia Crone". The opinion of only one scholar against the whole academic consensus who says the opposite is almost irrelevant. Patricia makes big claims substantiated by weak evidence. This channel follows only the academic consensus.

How ironic given the situation today that Yemen used to be Jewish, and Jordan (or most of what is Jordan today), Syria, Lebanon, and Egypt used to be Christian.
Crazy
actually they were Christian kingdoms or vassels to the east romans
Lebanon was majority Christian until the 1970s
Yemen used to be Jewish until Israel was established and started abducting their kids so they could be used for farm labor with Operation: Magic Carpet.

@@zimrasawyer1881he is talking hagag with a strong number of h2287.
There is nothing that indicates circling around from the Biblical accounts., since there is a common court, inner Temple and the Holy of Holies.
It would be impossible to go around the temple since it was located in a corner of old Jerusalem, that means that there were walls on each side of the temple.
That would make it impossible to go around the entire temple, and if you mean going around the Holy Place, it would not be possible either because of the shape of the esplanade.

Absolutely fascinating! This fills in so much history for me. I had no idea there were other cubes or other gods represented within them or that they were water wells!
I doubt Hubal's priests actually threw the dirhams down the well.
Not enough is talked about this period. Thank you!

And the word Islam too means the same.
erm, no. Language dont work like that. Kupa lol
Which one is first, Hinduism or Abraham? Ka'ba build by first human Adam and restored by Ibrahim.
In south india there is a goddess called kabbalamma.. guess kabba, kabbalah and kabbalamma are related!.
@@GoodLookingGentlemen Abraham first or Brahma first?

If the two great empires, Sasanian and Roman, learned to live in peace, everything would look different today. If...
That an be said about any empires. What if Persia, Assyria & Babylon lived in peace. There may not be a europe as they would go west to conquer.

I am a Hindu from India. If you want to experience and see what is discussed about Ziggurat and marriage of gods, come to India. Especially to the south. Every month Gods are married.

Confusion? Syncretism should be the right word..polytheism allows co existence of multiple ideologies.
Hey Abhinnakhale,
Thank you for the comment.

To be honest. Whichever the religion, as long as a human needs to create phyisical objects out of whatever the material, doesn't matter if as small as a talisman, or as big as a temple, then any object which is not abstract can be considered an idol, and any form of religious ritual as a form of idolatry.

In 8:03, what you actually meant to show/write/type was:
“Biography of Prophet Muhammad”, by Ibn Ishaq as edited by Ibn Hisham (NOT “Ibn Kathir” which you wrote/typed)
However, it was correctly written/typed, when showing it in the “Main Sources”, in the early part of the video in 2:01, i.e.:
“The Biography of Prophet Muhammad, (Sirat Rasul Allah) by Ibn Ishaq as edited by Ibn Hisham.”
👍
Sorry to point this out, you might already be aware but I now realize that the same mistake is unfortunately repeated later on in the video. 😅
Hey, thank you for the comment, we made a mistake upon revision. But not exactly the one you pointed out. Thank you!
Here is the mistake:
Ibn Ishaq's and Ibn Kathir's works are two different books.

How is it idolatry?! Idolatry is the biggest possible sin in Islam. Shirk(creating partners with God) is the only sin which will never be forgiven
@@haideraliikram-mv9xz If we must not equate anything with God, then Muslims has committed shirk in many ways, 1. Adoring and worshipping black stone in kabba, 2. Making Muhammad their god, surah At - Tawbah :24 says, "Say, O prophet, if your fathers, your sons, your brothers, wives, your clean, your possessions that that you have gained, commerce your fear may slacken, dwellings in you - - if these are dearer to you than God and His messenger, and to struggle in His way, then wait till God brings His command: God guides not the people of the ungodly."

No, it can't dry, unless the acquifer below Mecca (underground water, finishes).
Water is sourced from underground also for farming all around Arabia and in desertic countries in general.
For the second part. No, the water from the Zamzam, scientifically, is no special compared to any other water.

Growing up in evangelical Christianity, I take it for granted that I can dive deep into the history of the religion, and it’s really cool to see that same analysis applied to Islam since, in English at least, there’s not much of that (at least that isn’t tinged with Christian Islamophobia).
So your assumption is accurate. By the way, if you're interested in studying further the pre-islamic period, we have a giant documentary exactly on that here on our channel, called ''The Unbelievable Origins of Islam: From Stone Preaching Polytheism to Allah!''
Cheers!
