I had two photo finishes Kyle Busch: well i finished backwards Clint Bowyer: *laughs in finishing upside down and on fire after flipping back onto his tires* Ryan Newman: *laughs in getting spun into the wall, hitting the wall at a high speed and velocity, flipping upside down, getting hit in the driver door, doing a barrel roll in the air, landing on his roof, skidding several yards as fuel leaks from his car while a fire starts near the fuel* Michael Waltrip and Dale Earnhardt Jr.: *quietly sip their beers as they remember winning both Daytona races and finishing 1-2 driving for DEI in the same year that Dale Sr died*

I was freaking out that day my mom said he's gone I'm like there's no way cause they put so much safety in those cars after Dale Sr passed and I was right I cried when I saw him holding hands with his two daughters coming out of the hospital the racing gods and Dale said its not your turn u got two little ones to take care of and this is your job
I know. The Austin Dillon wreck looked worse than this wreck. When Newman's wreck came to rest, I've thought he was ok. They just needed to turn around the car and he will get out like talladega 2009. But they had to cut him out of the car and take him to the hospital. But I think that the two crashes are very scary.
BryanVlogs Dillon wasn’t hit on the driver side door like Newman. Sure Dillon lost both the back and front end of his car, but being hit in the driver side door, upside down, at 150-180 mph can instantly kill someone had it not been for the cages on the car. Newman’s was worse for a Person, Dillon’s was worse for the Car.
They're equal when it comes to how bad they were but if you're talking about driver safety, after the second hit you could tell newman's roll cage was compromised. The front and back were floppy and you never see that happen in a nonfatal wreck except michael waltrip at bristol but that's completely a different story.
It sounds like he keyed up for a second very weakly garbled by both being on the radio and Newman on the roof (interferance/antenna being destroyed) and it sounds like he is either saying "Im good Im good" or making moans. Hard to tell.

Weird how Ryan’s crash is likely the last shared memory anyone has of normal life prior to the madness we’ve seen since Mar ‘20. To this day I can’t see this crash without getting maybe the most deepest rooted feeling of nausea I’ve ever experienced. Newman has always been one of my favorite NASCAR drivers since he started in the #12 Alltel car for Roger Penske. The instant I saw his inverted car hit, catching Ryan just behind the driver’s side B-post, or basically right behind Ryan’s left ear - I thought I had watched him be killed. If I had been standing I’d have likely gone to my knees. Seeing this it feels like yesterday. Thanks for putting in the effort, and time, to edit this together! Thank God for the safety advances in the race world. As a first responder I’ve seen it in regular vehicles too. We say cars now are throw away and they are. Bit the safety built-in that you can see under the worst of circumstances where people come our in way better shape than you would think they should is as never before. Now at the speeds THESE cars are going... just unbelievable. God speed Ryan.
Although this happened 2 years ago, this is still the worst crash I have ever witnessed on live television, I was just about to burst into tears once I saw the replays of the crash, after that, I had gained a lot of respect on Ryan and he became one of my favorite drivers, to this day, my mind is still boggled that he only suffered a bruised brain from this wreck, I honestly thought he had multiple serious injuries once I saw this wreck for the first time, it just shows you have safe these cars are, and how NASCAR really put a lot of work in these cars to keep fatalities from happening. God... that night I will definitely never forget.
Our whole family used to fly to the 500 from ‘01-2012. Me and my bro went starting around 2003. One thing I can say unequivocally from over a decade of being at Daytona is sure, people cheer when there’s chaos, but not this one. Everyone understood it wasn’t good
A few things: Damn they were flying! Hamlin's on-board made it feel like the video was being played at 1.25 or 1.5x. Also, Denny Hamlin was really close to getting into the wreck. You can see it by the change in pressure on the hood and its effect on the cowl flaps. Right after that, Blaney did a great job hanging onto the car through the tri-oval while battling Hamlin.
using the clip at 3:50 rough measurement from the time Lajoy hit him to the time he landed the car flew almost exactly 100yd through the air falling just shy if the finish line. insane impact
the first hit everyone was yelling and cheering cause you know it was entertaining. The second hit was the complete opposite everyone who could see it clearly went quiet and scared, I cant imagine how impact-full on everyone brains this would be watching it on live tv, let alone on the track. Its an absolute miracle that Newman survived, and one of the wonders that still lingers in our heads
@6:24 If Yellow is out, isn’t Ryan Newman the race Winner? Since the field wasn’t frozen, they nearly cost Ryan Newman his life. Why is NASCAR so inconsistent?
All I can say as long time nascar fan is that that night felt like the late afternoon early evening of 2/18/2001 glad he was ok and ready race again still one of not the worst crashes ive seen in my almost 30 years of watching NASCAR
Gosh I remember watching this live, it was about 9:00 pm est when I got home, (since I was watching at my grandparents house) and I couldn’t go to bed, I was petrified that I watched somebody perish my mother was on Twitter finding news and when they pronounced Ryan had serious but not life threatening injuries I sighed a i was so happy.
I think all of the fan angles sum up NASCAR fans pretty well: The first hit (Ryan into the wall) there is cheering. People want to see a wreck and last-lap pass at Daytona. But after the second hit (Corey hitting Ryan), people realize how bad this can be the cheers die down. Thank God that Ryan Newman walked away!
I still remember that day Newman crashed and nobody knew if he was alright or not. I felt so bad for his wife & family at the hospital who wasnt sure either. Personally, I still cant believe he survived that, especially after the second hit. It was a true miracle and God blessed him multiple times thru out his crazy career.
Yep, I hope every single pit crew member is not on any team in nascar currently, you can argue that Hamlin didn’t know when he was celebrating, but that fact that you have a front row seat and see a crash right before your eyes that should have been fatal and decide to celebrate, hell man that pisses me off.
I’m pretty sure Ryan Newman mentioned your video! Around the 22 minute mark ua-cam.com/video/-2RXXMf8yjs/v-deo.html

Watching how bad the wreck was in hindsight I couldn’t imagine being Ryan Newman’s spotter, just the eerie silence
The way you can hear the impact with the SAFER barrier on all the pit-road angles is TERRIFYING
Our whole family used to fly to the 500 from ‘01-2012. Me and my bro went starting around 2003. One thing I can say unequivocally from over a decade of being at Daytona is sure, people cheer when there’s chaos, but not this one. Everyone understood it wasn’t good
7:51: "Not good. Not goo-"
Hearing the #32 spotter, theres nothing he can do to avoid Newman so fast and helpless feeling
It's eerie when the crowd cheer for the expected chaos and then...silence
The fact that Newman survived shows that 2020 won't be so bad after all.
A few things:
Damn they were flying!
The 3rd video makes it look so much more brutal (0:19)
7:53 jeez you can tell the antenna was messed up when newman was saying "not good, not good"
It wasnt newman
I have seen some wicked crashes but this one is insane.
8:50 great angles
Thank you very much for this video
Still gives me chills every time I watch it
7:52 I am pretty sure that that is Newman saying "Not good, not good"
0:32 instant regret of cheering for Newman crashing
I am the only one who don't cheer when someone crashes?
Cheeertovzko I don’t cheer but I make noise, kinda like a loud gasp
@@Vannoy5156 yeah,i am like that
I cheer when someone crashes as long as no one gets hurt. But this one, this one had me
@@CodyDeadInside if it’s a hard crash I won’t but if the get spun and kiss the wall I will. Depends who it is tho
the first hit everyone was yelling and cheering cause you know it was entertaining. The second hit was the complete opposite everyone who could see it clearly went quiet and scared, I cant imagine how impact-full on everyone brains this would be watching it on live tv, let alone on the track. Its an absolute miracle that Newman survived, and one of the wonders that still lingers in our heads
Yay I’m in it!
Oh hi Idk Player
0:48 the guy screaming sounds like the Wilhelm scream
That long, unmoving scrape down the front stretch is haunting.
As soon as the hit, all fans go from "YA!" hands up, to "OMG" hands on head. They knew it was serious....
@6:24 If Yellow is out, isn’t Ryan Newman the race Winner?
Since the field wasn’t frozen, they nearly cost Ryan Newman his life. Why is NASCAR so inconsistent?
Or maybe it was lagged
It’s crazy that he walked out of the hospital 3 days after
It was 2 days after the crash.
I thought that Clint Bowyer's crash finishing upside down and on fire back in 2007 was bad, but this... Jesus.
All I can say as long time nascar fan is that that night felt like the late afternoon early evening of 2/18/2001 glad he was ok and ready race again still one of not the worst crashes ive seen in my almost 30 years of watching NASCAR
the fact that this crash was very similar to Earnhardt's 2001 wreck, just made it even more unsettling and horrific
if restrictor plates did not exist, he would have hit the fence. lets be grateful that he did not...
7:56 drone: nyyooooooom
2:00 you picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel
A lot of the fans were cheering Ryan Newman before the wreck.
I get goosebumps everytime I watch this. 😱😦😧
These are some dope ass shots😎
Newman’s wreck looked like something from a movie
I still remember that day Newman crashed and nobody knew if he was alright or not. I felt so bad for his wife & family at the hospital who wasnt sure either. Personally, I still cant believe he survived that, especially after the second hit. It was a true miracle and God blessed him multiple times thru out his crazy career.
Where is Rick Reichmuth's channel? i wanna find his view of the 2020 NASCAR Daytona 500 Ryan Newman flip.
“Talk to me when you can buddy”
Ryan: “not good not good”
You know NASCAR really needs to have a helmet can on the Starter! He probably had the best view of it!
I still hate the fact that Denny Hamlin pit crew is celebrating while a life or death is right in front of them
Yep, I hope every single pit crew member is not on any team in nascar currently, you can argue that Hamlin didn’t know when he was celebrating, but that fact that you have a front row seat and see a crash right before your eyes that should have been fatal and decide to celebrate, hell man that pisses me off.
