I don't see why he would have, the Crucible has proven Light is a magnificent way to fight Light, the same probably applies to the Darkness, and considering so far the pyramid and apparently the creatures Drifter encountered were able to supress Light, it may end up being our only option.
So dark powers it's the logical direction and the next step in our evolution as Guardians, not being of Light or Dark, but something more gray.

We've been dealing with cabal, vex, fallen and whatnot but Shin has been on a solo mission dispatching dark guardians by himself, which I think is way more powerful than enemies we've fought so far because they're directly tied to darkness. In malfeasance quest drifter also said in order to defeat Shin he's gonna need a crew of multiple guardians (including us in it) equipped with malfeasance to gang up and teamshot him, implying we stand no chance 1v1 against him.
We cleansed the original thorn, we have killed Oryx the taken king, we killed Xol the worm god, we have beaten the Sol Divisev in their Garden of Salvation who worship darkness, when the devils splicers used SIVA we destroyed them nearly utterly, we avenged Cayde 6 and killed all but the so far unkillable of the Scorn Barons, as Riven of One Thousand voices was taken we beat her too, we bear the title of God Slayer with truth and even Shin Malphur admits that we are his better, we don't just kill grunts, we've slain Gods of Dakness, and Shin would be a pice of cake compared to our other victories and you say that dark guardians are more powerful than any enemies we've fought so far? Dark Guardians would've whimpered as our light cleansed the original thorn or slayed oryx we have bested gods, again, Shin is weak and frail compared to our light.

when we get dark guardians, will our light level go negative?
I always assumed that we would get darkness in D2 and that why they changed it to power level but it seems I was wrong
I always call it Light Level too lol, but in reality in Destiny 2 we have a power level, not a light level like it was on D1.
And makes sense though, even from the very start when we recovered our powers it was from a tainted shard of the traveler, so we might be closer to darkness powers than what people realize.
My power level is UNDER 9000!
That would be an interesting way to reset the game. If you choose the Darkness you get set to PL 0 and you have to follow an enemy faction that is actually evil (Fallen aren’t evil, they just hate Guardians because the Traveler chose humans after yeeting itself away from them) and for each milestone you complete, you gain Darkness Levels.
In D1 you did get darkness armor
I'm all for the balance between light and dark. Not being Good nor Evil but a guardian of the people using whatever powers are necessary to do so.

The horrifying thing about the Kentarch-3 is that in the Garden of Salvation raid, there are three major figures. A Minotaur, being consumed by the Consecrated mind, the Consecrated mind, and the Sanctified mind. I believe these three represent the Kentarch-3, the Minotaur being Lisbon-13. He completely rejected the dark power, so he has no power over the Consecrated mind, likely being Rakana. She acknowledged that it was powerful and needed to be used, but was still defeated easily. And the Sanctified mind being Yardarm-4. He accepted the power, letting it consume him, we put him at a balance with the motes of light and tainted light.
Modil 1103, well actually Yadarm-4 did not embrace the darkness in equality with the light, and was not balanced. Also, the Consecrated mind is drawn to the pure voltaic energy relay, not the “tainted” dark motes. Everything can be interpreted symbolic features, but I think you over-thought it.
That doesn't makes sense. Lisbon hid the Divinity after winning and then he probably killed himself, seeing the lore tab of the raid bow he probably ended his life after killing his friends.
So who's going to titan when the ships get to saturn??

When you were talking about the fireteam that was recovering the divinity from the black garden and you said the otherwise it jogged something in my memory, a sparrow that had lore about our guardians perfect enemy, I was thinking that this could have been the darknesses manifestation to fight our guardians? The Hive believe that once the Darkness wins over the Light, the universe will enter a state where only the most powerful beings exist. When he says that the Darkness is the end of our evolution, he is saying that the Darkness is the end.

If we get darkness powers etc, id like to have the option to use both the light and the dark, but still fight for the side of the light. Kinda like how some Jedi tapped into the dark side a little bit.

I think this is how it will play out, i can't see Bungie giving us the option of joining the pyramids or different factions that radically change the position of the players in the universe tbh, that would require a ton of work not only on PvP of light guards vs dark guardians, but also factions in PvE, what factions would a dark guardian face? what would a light guardian fight?. Is too messy, and it really doesn't make much sense either for our Guardian to kind of give up on the City and humanity after 5+ years lol. So we're definetly going to get our Dark powers but it will be like Shin said, we will control them with our light in order to fight dark with dark and protect humanity.

@Byf I’ve been ruminating on a couple different thoughts. Both revolving around SIVA. Since we’ve had clear indications that it will return with the ornaments on sale and the Season pasa tan having SIVA coming off the bottom of the banner that displays our season rank.
1) That SIVA will be used to the stop the Almighty threat.
2) What if Rasputin uses SIVA to generate an anthropomorphic body of himself - kind Ultron-esque - and becomes a vendor and more of an ally that fights literally along side us against the darkness. He makes constructs and used Exos in the past. What if he manifests in a “body” of his own design, with SIVA as yet another weapon to yield against the Darkness?
I saw someone come up with a similar theory to 2 but said body for Rasputin being Felwinter's exo body.
The idea being Felwinter had a special body built with key features for Rasputin and that we'll recover the body so Rasputin can implant part of himself into it, then he'll take our Season 10 ornament(the fancy sword) which will be revealed to be one of his super weapons.

*I had an idea long ago since i think Vanilla that would have been interesting.* *Imagine becoming infused with the Darkness granting you new powers and abilities classes midway through a future expansion story while facing the Darkness on their own rules.*
*However doing so would have severe consequences, the gifts from the traveler and him viewing you as a guardian is no longer apparent and your ghost is sacrificed.* *You are a Dark guardian, you protect humanity all the same but its by your own morals and will.* *You follow the vanguard, the tower etc but at any time you can simply go rogue if you so deemed but that's within the confines of your morality.. Basically the game will challenge you as to what type of guardian you are and it'll have implementations on the story and how you approach it.* *Are you a Rogue, Follower or lone wolf.* *Each decision will have different cutscenes, missions, dialogue and encounters based on the decision you choose.* *Same foes just different confrontations.*
*Choosing to be a dark guardian in game will be permanent for that specific character, so to infuse is to sacrifice, to sacrifice is to bestow, to bestow is to be reborn in darkness.* *New gifts that you can use to reap enemies or bend to your will.* *All this will be possible due to a Darkness ally.*
*And Destiny 3 could be about some dark guardians going rogue and mad with power due to tampering with the darkness, some becoming frighteningly powerful.* *And lastly.. the rumors of a hidden Dark Guardian leader behind the walls.* *My idea for this guardian is he's 7ft due to self maniplulation & augmentation making him a force presence to be reckoned with.* *He's versatile, strong, vicious, calculative, wields hybrid tech.* *His followers are self augmented as well but of hive and vex tech upgraded into weapons we never seen before.*
*(new weapons to uncover) i would title them as scavenger, augmented & prime variants.* *Uncommon weapons would be just as unique as legendarys and can be upgraded through questing.*
*The story could finally have us venture out beyond the walls within the fractured cities of the golden age, and the cities beneath the traveler to uncover the rumors of these guardians.* *The tone of the story should be mystery, adventure, dark and thrilling since this isnt ordinary power to be trilfed with.* *But to purge from this world and ending up in the wrong hands.*
*Honestly i want a dark thriller atmosphere when the Darkness arrives, everything shrowded in darkness as we fight them.* Hell name it The Dark Expansion.

With the new dlcs coming in the next couple of years, this will be easy.
I'm skeptical of potential Darkess-based subclasses; that said, I've always really wanted some, and the idea of being able to go Dark is one that excites me. I can only LARP so much with my Scatterhorn gear and Gambit shaders, damnit!
Personally, I'd want a Dark Warlock to be similar to a Hive Wizard - floaty, possibly able to summon shadow allies, of blanket areas in suppressing dark smoke, etc. That would be fun. Regardless, though, I'd take anything that's offered.

I find the idea of using the Darkness appealing, and it seems we'll go that way, but the idea of "going Dark" so to say, doesn't.
I find that idea... Incredibly dumb. The only other words I can use there involve the synonyms to that word. Like, if the Darkness offered us shit during the Golden Age instead of outright attacking us, then fine. Right now, however, our survival hinges on its destruction. I love the Pyramids, but lore-wise I cannot endorse that course of action.
I think we'll need to take some of the Darkness' power and twist it into a less indifferent form, forging a balance between our Light and Dark powers.

@@ArchivalMind If so, the only question is which Psions. Cabal's Scribes, perhaps? He is intending to give up everything to the Darkness. Maybe we might trick him into thinking, through his absurd mental musings, that we agree, and having the Psion Scribes help infuse us with the Darkness would help us expedite its arrival, but in fact, be our chance to fight against it.

I really hope that we get to see Shin Malphur soon. Now that Saint-14 is around I feel like he's the most talked about character that we've yet to see. Would be awesome if the next season revolved around him. Would be a good chance to make the Drifter story relevant again, as well as potentially (finally) giving some payoff to the Vanguard/Drifter allegiance quest.
I haven't heard this much light and dark talk since Kingdom Hearts.
I love these, you make the game feel like stuff is happening in real time, i dont know if your the only person to do these but dmi wouldn't go to any1 else for this informational lore, you tell the story so well

I wish they would cause a split in the community like choosing a side. We had an illusion of choice with the gambler and Zavala, I hope they give us a choice. We don’t get revealed who is dark or not, it’s just a subtle thing that will effect the future.
I'm thinking these "darkness" powers will be true lifesteal, consuming their souls and stuff.
And it'll be optional. Guarantee it.
I hope it's like the drifter quest, where if you choose to wield the dark, itll be irreversible.

You become a Dark Guardian by installing cheats for Trials. The powers are mighty and there are no risks apparently lol
This is exactly the reason I've never run a single round of Gambit, because it's much more than a part of the game, it is a question about whether we are willing to strip away ourselves, our light for the sake of power. Something which that Aunor guy even taunts us for in his initial 5 transcripts.
An event/season where the Dark Guardians (Drifter's Dredgens, etc) fight against Light Guardians because they have dabbled a bit too much in the Darkness and now it controls them would be KEWL AF!

Exo Stranger is Elsie Bray, Ana's sister. She probably went Exo to hide information on Project IKELOS from someone else in Clovis-Bray, but beyond that, there's a lot more in between that I'm curious about.

Yeah not to be a spoil sport but anyone in this comment section that thinks there is going to be a hard, binary choice of darkness and light guardians is setting themselves up for dissapointment.
Both from a lore and meta game design perspective it's far more likely that our characters ability to use the darkness will just be another subclass icon in the upper left of the equipment screen along the three light based ones today.
And just like how we can casually jump back and forth between the elements we will be able to casually jump back and forth between using that darkness based subclass and any of the three light based ones.

This might be asking for too much but I hope you get to choose between dark and light. You either get a new super of pure light or a new darkness super depending on what you pick.

If they truly wanted to go in with this idea, it would be cool if they did something similar to the following: they add a subclass tree for those who still want to largely use the light, but for the guardians that want to go full Kentarch it changes their whole class dynamic. All their subclass trees get replaced or twisted by darkness abilities.
Talking about the guardians that went to find the divinity, it reminds me of the novel Lord of the Flies. Loosely

I feel like that whole Vanguard v Drifter quest line is finally going to properly wrap up with the coming of those dark ships, and the reason why light levels suddenly spiked so high, maybe it's to have enough light to keep the darkness under control?
I’ve been fascinated by the Dredgens and the darkness since D1 and I really hope that Bungie is taking us in a direction that will have us choose what side to be on/what power to use. Maybe it’ll have something to do with the Allegiance Quest? All and all, exciting and interesting stuff.
