Hey guys, just know that even if you don't win, you are spreading science and knowledge of our universe, big or small, to the rest of us. You should be proud that you did the grind of making a video instead of being unproductive all quarantine. best of luck to everyone!
Hi Jeffery! Though you may not see this, as I'm writing three years after the posting of this video, I just wanted to give you a big thanks for making it. I've found it, and your other videos, very helpful, as I 'm almost certainly participating in the Breakthrough Junior Challenge this year. Thanks again! And also, I rarely subscribe, comment, or even like for the matter on UA-cam, but I thought this was definitely worthy of one. I only learned about this challenge at all two days ago, and even though I'm much younger than the earlier participants, I'm going to participate. Hopefully next year the extra time comes in handy. Alright, thanks again!
Since you mentioned that the top 30 have to submit a list of assets they didn't make- does that mean we get penalized (at least later in the process) if we modified tremendous amounts of images we got online (to serve as props, backgrounds, etc)? Great video!
Do you know if I can include a few pictures from the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series in my video? They would add fun illustrations but I'm worried about copyright. (And I might make a video on if memes are copyrighted after the challenge lol)
Thank You very much Jeffery!!! It was great to know the inside story.... The world is a small place.... Look forward to exchanging ideas with you someday!
Hello Jeffery! At 07:57, you told us not to choose controversial topics. Is this your subjective opinion? I couldn't find any information about whether we should or should not pick such topics on the Breakthrough website or judging criteria. The reason why I am asking this question is because topics that are usually covered in advanced college math may not have any scientific evidence.
Hello there! I'm attending this year and I have a question. Are competitors informed about whether they have passed at each stage of the competition? For example, I am now not notified of the Evaluation panel review phase and whether I have passed the Administrative review. Does the Breakthrough Junior Challenge only inform the finalists when the time comes? Thank you!!
"You must be 13 years of age by April 1 at 12:01 AM Pacific Daylight Time (”PDT”) to participate in the Competition", according to the official website.
I knew about this competition super late like two days before its deadline. Also, I don't know anything about animations. Can I write down on paper to explain the concepts?
Hi Jeffery, could you tell me what lapel mic you bought/used? Also, do you have any experience with gimbals, and if so what do you recommend? Thanks so much.
As far as a gimbal, I did have a camera stabilizing gimbal that I borrowed from a friend. There are alternatives to having stable footage though that you can look up on UA-cam!
Hey man, I'm entering the competition this year. I've built a large following on TikTok making educational astronomy stuff so I hope I have a good chance. Just one question -- do clips that you film on the game SpaceEngine count as your own or no? Thanks!
Hey Jeffery - love your videos (especially the COVID report ones!) I had a quick question about the breakthrough junior challenge - are competitors notified if they make it to the evaluation panel? If so, when? Thanks!
Hi, I want to create a video about pauli exclusion principle. And it's very much likely related to chemistry. So Am I qualify for participating this competition ?
It was nice to get a reply from you lol Great tips tho, also yeah the crowd watching you when you record is extremely relatable But just one more question Why Cinema 4D over Blender ? (Just a joke comment, don't mind me I'm a blender fan boy)
Haha no worries. I just learned Cinema 4D because my friend didn't need his, and I felt it was just a little easier to get into as I didn't have that much experienced with 3D (I used Autodesk Maya before which was really hard haha!) But Blender is great too!!
Hello Jefferey, I have some very specific questions for you and I hope you do not mind. If your video is slightly shorter than 3 minutes(my script has 506 words)is that okay? Also I am thinking about using your phone method for recording. Did you tape the phone on your back or on your chest?
Hey hi, I just had a query that can we participate every year, I mean that if I don't get selected this year ,can I participate the next year and if I'll be rejected that year also can I participate the year after that ?pls 🙏 answer this question , because I don't know if I'll participate this year or not because I came to know about the breakthrough junior challenge today and I don't have anything planned
Hardik marvelous you can participate every year as long as you are still within the age group of 13-18, In fact the last three winners had participated twice each.
hey! please as soon as possible answer this, I am 12 years old and in November 2021 I would be 13 but I have a good topic so would I be able to participate.

What If I am 12 but turning thirteen this year? Can I still apply? I just have a late birthday

started writing the script yesterday
Will it be a problem if I covered a topic that many previous contestants talked about last year? But it is good and in my own way?
I knew about this competition super late like two days before its deadline. Also, I don't know anything about animations. Can I write down on paper to explain the concepts?
Hi Jeffery, could you tell me what lapel mic you bought/used? Also, do you have any experience with gimbals, and if so what do you recommend? Thanks so much.
Hey!! So I used a lav mic from Amazon, I’m pretty sure it’s made by “Ttstar”. It’s relatively cheap (around $25), but other lav mics should work fine!
As far as a gimbal, I did have a camera stabilizing gimbal that I borrowed from a friend. There are alternatives to having stable footage though that you can look up on UA-cam!
@@JefferyChen Thanks for the info. I got a hold of a mic & a gimbal. Next up…How did you hide your lapel mic? I didn’t see it in any of your scenes…

Ur tips are so helpful for me cuz I stuck on how should I film the video

Did you use an iphone to video record?
I used an iPhone for some shots and a Canon M50 for others

You give me Nicki Minaj vibes and I love it :)

dude looks kinda chilly. hope u bought a jacket
UGH I hate myself. still haven't recorded anything
can you do a peer-to-peer review tutorial...or just give some tips...please....!
For peer-to-peer, you're just basically watching and rating other films by contestants. Be honest, and try to learn something new!
@@JefferyChen Thank you Jeffery. I was just trying to understand how the criteria for judging works...but anyways thank you
hey! please as soon as possible answer this, I am 12 years old and in November 2021 I would be 13 but I have a good topic so would I be able to participate.
You can participate above 13 years!!
