People actually said he was 'too visual'? Fuck off, it's a film, it's meant to look good which Blade Runner certainly does. I think it's one of the most gorgeous looking (and sounding) films ever made.

Sigh. Maybe if they stopped thinking about saving money they might actually create a masterpiece.
I rarely watch movies now BECAUSE movies are like junk food.
They dont care anymore - they just churn out rubbish and a little BRAINWASHING into the mix to trick people into thinking its good when in actual fact its trash.

I literally love Ridley Scott when he talks about films. He’s so in love with making them he’s confident of his ability but never arrogant and I feel just tells you very simply about the small levels of trickery that make up a full length motion picture.

Ridley is a stone cold GENIUS. You can see it in all his films. I remember I met Joe Turkel, the man who played 'Tyrell' the creator of the replicants in the movie, at a hot dog joint in LA one afternoon. I kept staring at him, thinking, "Where have I seen this guy before??" His facial features were so unique. Then I realized that without the thick glasses he wore in the film was the reason I couldn't put it together. I walked up to him and asked to be sure, and he was the most friendly and terrific guy you can imagine, nothing like the character you see on the screen. But that's what good acting is all about, right?

I don't think I've ever heard that explanation of the eye-glint before, but there are so many little subtleties like that throughout.

"How can I be too visual" I just agree so damn much with this, THe phrase "style over substance" is used so much an so lightly, with the right execution the style can be the substance as well, the lighting, production design, cinematography, composition, score everything can be its own rich comunication language that can evoke all sorts of emotions from the viewers, it's a shame that most people can't appreciate this at all...

The fact that Blade Runner is still commonly talked about nearly 40 years after its release is a testament to its brilliance as a film. It surprised me that Ridley Scott considered this his favorite scene, because not knowing this, I've long considered this to be one of the top 5 movie scenes of all time. And again to its credit, I've also thought the "Tears in Rain" scene to be among my top 5 as well.

At 79 years old Ridley is sharp as ever! I just wish he could leave behind Alien and focus on more films like Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven and Martian. I'd like to see that Battle of Britain film and Wraiths of the Broken Land that he was supposed to direct. Maybe some fantasy or original sci fi films, his attention to detail is superb, he just needs a good script.

When Blade Runner came out it wasn’t getting much acclaim. I remember my dad getting it as a VHS rental which we did every Saturday. It was considered just another Sci-Fi film at the time and there were so many. Most of these 80’s Sci-Fi films didn’t stand the test of time. I thought it was a great film but it took at least a decade before people started to appreciate what an amazing film this was. Now it’s talked about as one of the greatest Sci-Fi films of all time.
