    As a 36 year veteran trucker i can tell everyone that until there is a national outcry about training truckers better things will keep getting worse. The accidents I've been seeing just these past few years are all due to very poor training and a lot of people who just shouldn't be driving a truck. Once they start putting 18 yo's in trucks it's going to be a demolition derby out here. I also signed the petition for clemency because i believe his company was mainly responsible for sending him to terrain he wasn't trained for. I had to rely on my own common sense to drive safely thru mountains. Learning these things yourself is a huge plus when nobody else gives a damn.

      They're not going to do it. They'll just replace truckers with AI over the next 20 years or so. It will end up reducing many of these accidents in the long run. They'll save a fortune and also minimize downtime. My company already works on this technology for drone transport. It's only a matter of time for road transport as well.

    In 2015, truck driver Jorge Espinoza was driving on the hwy at 65 mph, while looking at pictures on his phone, barreled full speed into multiple cop cars and first responders who were stopped, and kiIIed one cop. He was only sentenced to 6 years in prison. It’s crazy how some sentences are far too long for lesser crimes where a large part of the responsibility is on the trucking company’s fault, yet far to short for greater, clearly negligent crimes.

      @@N0HANDLE101 absolutely not. Emotions don't matter to facts. I could accuse you of rape and be the most emotional about it but it doesn't make it true or factual, right? Never should emotions ever play into a trial. Imagine if the cop was acquitted in the George Floyd case because of some technicality in the law. Say the law said you had to have your knee on someone's neck for a time that was longer than it was. If that were true then he couldn't be convicted. But emotions were extremely high. Should emotions superceded the law? Of course not. That is why emotions are not admitted into evidence. That is why when criminals cry on the stand most dismiss them as fake tears. Emotions don't establish guilt or innocence. Nor do they make one death worth more or less than another. Evidence is all that matters.

      ok, once again… Let us reiterate… No one is saying the man isn’t responsible…. BUT his initial sentencing was ridiculous and this case should have more emphasis on stricter enforcement of training standards and safety protocols for truck drivers rather than placing all the burden on one individual’s shoulders. The trucking + licensing companies should be just as accountable for their drivers as the drivers themselves. If an employee of your company fails to adhere to safety protocol, then that is also largely the company’s fault for not properly vetting and training their drivers for quality assurance. Training should not just stop after receiving your CDL. Each company deals with different regions, terrain, traffic patterns, weather etc. All these regional factors should be taken into account when hiring AND training a rookie driver.

      Your issue is with the justice system. Complaining about this one case is useless for what you're stating. But he was over-sentenced relative to other more malicious current crime sentencing. That's why many people think his sentence should be reduced. Drunk drivers kill people and get much lighter sentences than what this guy initially got. You seem to think everything should be stricter, but that won't be solved by complaining about this one case. That requires criminal justice reform.

      @@scratchpenny Complaining about anything is a human right and fortunately a privilege we have in this country and thankfully on this forum. This man's sentence was reduced because of the outcry from the public who've participated in complaining about the excessive punishment of criminals, and ignored the perspective of victims and their families. Because officials are ultimately puppets of the public, who need to please in order to retain favor in future elections and negotiations, they act accordingly when the voices are loud enough, for better or worse.
      I do not doubt that if this man's original sentence were 10 years with parole after 5, the public's opinion would have swayed the other way, with an outcry of the sentence being too soft. Regardless, I'm looking at things from the side of the victims. Death is a possibility whenever you are on the road, often a result of the negligence and indifference of another, and a sentence of a few years is often imposed as a service for the criminal, and a disservice to the victim. @@N0HANDLE101 This murderer you are talking about is in his 20's he doesn't know dipshit about responsibility. He was not intentionally dealing any harm, he was reckless. If someone is poor they also do not have a choice often but to follow orders and if company says that he is not allowed to fix the truck then he cannot do much about it and if he is unaware of his rights it is even worse. Why was he in the crowd? Well simple, if you do any damage would you like to be looked at by dozens? It gave him a kinda safety feeling psychologically that he was in middle of a crowd. Even if he might've hit and run it would be a bit understandable psychologically.
      Back then in school we were asked by our teachers that what would we do in case we hit someone and a classmate of mine said that "I'd run away" seriously. The teacher asked him why and he stated "Well, if i get away by any chance I will not be convicted for x years and I'd take the plate and anythign that could make me recognizable". And this is why this case is a bit outrageous. I mean if he got sentenced for 110 years for a broken brake in case of an accidental hit and run someone would probs just remember this case and how someone can get over 110 years and run instead of possibly helping just to avoid justice.
      In my opinion the 10 years is a good sentence for him with parole. I mean, if you look at it, on paper 10 years doesn't sound much, but actually it is. It's literally 10% of someone's life if they live up to 100 and 50% if they live up to just 20. Even if just 5 years it is still 5%.
      As for family members and the damages done. Would making him serve more years give money back to the company or resurrect the dead family members? Does it scale in the opposite way with the sentence or what? Is it like "okay so 110 years, that means just 2 years until they come back". No. However sentencing someone for being reckless for 110 years in accident opposed to someone who intentionally murdered and sold it off as actually just a 3rd degree one getting only 12.5 years for clean record... this was manslaughter not even a 3rd degree murder...
      So yes, i am happy that justice was served and the man was convicted for the time that he is supposed to serve. I mean, he still didn't get away from all of it and with a record of recklessness it will even be harder for him to find a job.
      He is not a murderer, however you can call him a dangerously irresponsible i*iot, because he was that at the time when thinking would've been required i gotta admit, that is why he serves 10 years with parole.

    My father had his own trucking business as well as my brother's they learn to drive tractor and trailer 18 wheelers when they were 14 years old. On the highway on the New Jersey Turnpike all up and down the Eastern United States number one brother had won the award for the most driven hours with no accidents. (Ever) . Unfortunately passed away in an accident trying to save someone's life who jetted out in front of him while going around a circle. I'd like to say people are not trained they put foreigners and anyone who doesn't really know the language nor the roadways period. Barely have a driver's license thousands of pounds of metal ( tons) on wheels. The same time I'd like to say they put a lot of fear in people re: tractor trailers . Here comes an 18-wheeler ..... don't panic....( get around the vehicle ; don't linger.....well usually it's a small car or SUV the comes off or on the highway no regard for truckers... do something stupid or a tag behind them so they can't even see them in their blind spot. Which cause accidents. When the weather is bad they want a hover around the side of a tractor and trailer and their blind spot. I am 100% behind truck drivers God bless them. This young man had experience or not? or was trained improperly who knows??? Because they will give anybody a job now with that massive amount of power and steel. Any motor vehicle if not driven properly can become a weapon and cause mass destruction. I am glad his sentence got reduced that was pretty crazy what if he was at fault I think 10 years is quite light. I also resent the fact that it takes someone as stupid as Kim Kardashian to make an outcry and then all the sudden something is done. At the same time they want to fight Joe Biden on redoing the roadways in this country period which I can say personally Pennsylvania is one of the worst in the country. Things to keep in mind while you're making all your damn comments. But you cannot expect people who don't understand English to read road signs and then be able to drive an 18-wheeler truck. Because they have a shortage or whatever the case is they just hire anyone so their product gets out at any cost. For that the manufacturing companies need to be held accountable as well as the distributors. It's very simple ....train people properly. They are so hell-bent on getting products out fast and selling every damn thing known to man they don't give a damn. My heart goes out to those who lost their lives it was a very tragic accident the young man should consider himself lucky 10 years for manslaughter. You just cannot put anyone behind the wheel.

Even if trucker does said check of truck, what if the brakes fail even after said inspection showed that everything was working? I heard that there were 2 off ramps that he could have taken, so I'm wondering if maybe he was just inexperienced. I never claimed he shouldn't get jail time, just 110 years for something like this when pedophiles and murderers get 20 tops is just wrong. The system needs an overhaul is the point.

    • @fred89pj
      @fred89pj 2 роки тому +2

      @@meeesy yes the driver is responsible for checking and inspecting tires, lights. brakes etc before departing. Brakes failed after continuing braking and braking all the time, they overheat. When you are going downhill you are supposed to engage the lower gear of the truck (using the shift stick) and occasionally use the brakes, if you do not, well they fail after a few miles. What you say about pedos and murders is right, but this man killed 4 people and injured 20 plus if I am correct (it may be people missing limbs, burned etc), and destroyed who knows how many cars, etc. So he is getting 2.5 years for each dead. I did nothing except good off everyday, tell jokes, exercise a LOT, eat a lot, sleep a lot, and play cards a lot. My bid was easy. 5 years in state or federal prison for a low risk inmate would really be a lot better than the 13 months I spent in Dauphin County Prison. Who are you to speak for the families? 10 years is plenty for an accident caused by recklessness and company policy (which the company should be punished for, not the driver). It is not like the driver is going to go out and take a truck to kill more people once he leaves prison.
      There is no point in making this man serve longer.

    I understand peoples point of view of supporting his clemency but I don’t believe he deserve it because as I am a CDL driver driving a semi you know when your brakes fail and its stupid he didn’t use the runaway ramps cause obviously you can see he lost his brakes and was going really fast when he just passed them to me its COMMON SENSE to use the runaway ramps! He chose to not use them. 10 years is not justice for the families who lost their loves ones due to an incompetent idiot behind the wheel of a commercial vehicle. He’s not professional and never took his role as a commercial driver seriously.

  • @MarkJacksonGaming

    -- That's fair. BUT the kid had no business behind the wheel there. Training is the key. I'm not a trucker. Military. I signed the petition as well. When I did it, I thought of my daughter being killed in this accident (that didn't happen; just trying to put myself in the shoes of the people who lost) I couldn't justify 110 years, even thinking of my girl. 10 with release after GB seems fair to me.
    He didn't mean to do it. He's got blame. Whoever put him on that route has as much or more.

    no!! even 10 years, with parole eligibility in 4 is still ridiculous. 1 year maybe.. but, it was an accident that was completely out of his reach. he already has to live with the fact that his accident caused the death of 4 people, honestly free rogel!!!

    • @sierra996
      @sierra996 Рік тому +1

      No, he had several options to not kill anyone besides maybe himself i.e. running it off the road, into the TWO runaway ramps available to him. He decided to "close his eyes" (his words) and drive into dozens of cars . Having to live with several deaths brings no comfort to the dead or their families; that's not an argument for sentence reduction.
