For me, it's not just the creative vision that you had for the space, which is really quite beautiful, but also the fact that you were capable of doing a lot if not most of the work yourselves. Really impressive endeavor all the way around.
Both of you have successfully brought out the aesthetics and elegance of simplicity and rawnesses. At the same time a beautiful story is told of the past and culture. There is a good flow of different spaces and levels, the courtyard completes it. I can see your skills in details and craftsmanship. Thank you for sharing.
They can keep their Chateaus....farms...and what ever mausoleums they find.....this is my idea of paradise and you have made it so.. where every room is available to have life. I have a loathing of rooms standing stiffly waiting for someone to love it as a permanent home. It is totally wonderful.
I have a dream of living in Italy one day … the house of my dream is exactly like this .. nothing more and nothing less … My heart ache when I saw this Beautiful video … I hope one day my dream come true .. as for now I will vicariously live through all the ones that are making the move before !! Thanks for such a beautiful video!! You make me keep dreaming ❤
Such a nice comment! Glad it feels inspiring. Just remember we all have goals and dreams and step by step can move towards them. Dreams are the first steps into reality. Thanks for watching :)
I watch a lot of Italian property videos. Some need a lot of work if not a few sticks of dynamite, and some have been redon. Even some very expensive palazzos. I have never seen one as simple yet artistic, airy, and esthetic as yours. Your vision and your hard work have created a piece of art to live in. I am a third Greek Italian on my father's side, and you have caught the essence of southern Italys Greek heritage. Ciao! 😊😊😊
Wow, you have created a magnificent space, you r both very talented, hardworking & creative. I am in awe. Yes it is like a lovingly crafted sculpture. Love, love, love it
I love what you've done with your renovation and the fact you've done it yourselves. Well done. It's gorgeous! And so inspiring as I begin my renovation journey in Salento.
Oh fantastic!! Still an ongoing process but we will get there in the end. Best of luck with your project anything is possible if you put your mind to it!
Wow that is such a great transformation. A feeling of comfortable serenity is what comes through for me. The living room reminds me very much of traditional touches you see in Arizona and New Mexico. Very inspiring for the renovation I’m just starting in Salento.
So glad you enjoyed it! Yes we’ve been very inspired by New Mexico adobe homes over the years. So beautiful and organic. Thanks for watching and your kind comment.
We’ve decided we are going to keep it and continue working on it. We love this area and home and at the moment we don’t feel like parting with the house :) thank you for your kind wishes
WOW!!!!! Sooooooo much love in this amazing work of art!!! Congratulations! Perfect example of taking what you get ad transforming it (with a lot of passion and effort) into a magnificent jewel!
I just found your channel - great space! We are excited to come to Puglia this September, we eventually want to have a place there! greetings from Naples, Florida...
Oh amazing! We love Puglia is such a great place. We will be hosting some ceramic and food and wine workshops this spring summer if you’re interested give us a look on instagram :) best of luck with the search. Ebonie and Martin
Well done again! It is so inspiring to see you both literally carve out your life and world together in such an aware, sensitive and beautiful manner. Your vision, creativity and hard work are to be commended. I wish you many contented and fulfilling days here together. 💚
We are thinking of buying a vacation house for ourselves just outside vico del gargano nesr the sea. I was wondering what the renovation process as far as permits and everything else is there in puglia. We do most of the thi gs ourselves since we are in the remodeling business. I keep hearing horror stories when it comes to remodeling in italy and so far still on hold on everything util we find out more details and do more research so we are not stuck with a dram that we can’t complete do to some crazy permit or other restrictions.
Hi, have you spent a significant amount of time in Vico? Do you speak any Italian? I can’t say for sure because iv only heard stories but the mafia presence is much stronger in Foggia region then say Brindisi where we were and Val di Itria which is where most foreigners buy. Iv heard that in Foggia extortion is very common in particular with foreigners. Extortion can come from local builders, etc and even the geometra. Not trying to scare you at all as Puglia is a wonderful region and great people but there are some places you shouldn’t buy as with any country and I personally would never buy in the Foggia region. In regard to restrictions everything goes through a local geometra you need to find one straight away that you trust To get anything done. Basically most things are possible if you are prepared to wait. Country houses are more difficult than village houses. If you buy a house make sure it’s registered as habitation otherwise for sure you are in for YEARS of waiting for changes. A nightmare. Don’t trust a real estate that says oh yes you can get permission to live here, check that it is registered A1 habitation. Nothing else. There are often very long waiting times (think in years) for major works and months for things that are more simple like changing a window. Everything in Italy costs something, so be prepared to pay for every little change you make, also vacation homes are taxed at a much higher percentage at time of purchase which you likely already know. Be aware electricity and gas prices are extremely expensive in the south so running A/C in summer which is basically a must in a place like Foggia can be a large an added expense. Think bills in the €1000 per month for running it day and night. I would say if you’ve got the money, some years to spare, a lot of patience and will to fulfill a dream then Italy can be a wonderful place to renovate something, if not id definitely either look for something already to you liking that only needs minimal cosmetic changes which you can do yourselves! Best of luck 😊
Hi, love your videos your taste and style, so natural so beautiful so simple. Would be great to see how the lime plaster is made maybe in a another video as I would like to do my bathroom like it without tiles. We live in Sicily and have been here for 4 yrs and we are still decorating , it never ends lol. Look forward to your next video.
I really enjoyed the video! All of your renovation, interior design, and garden work are just fantastic! I cannot imagine that I would be comfortable on your living room sofas. Of course, it could certainly be that I am so very old and need more cushions at my back. And where do the darling dogs sleep? I saw them sleeping in the outside garden on a cushioned bench...cute! But inside, maybe they sleep on the reading bench! Wow, the cellar is wonderful! Your place is full of beauty!! Thanks! All the best to you from Memphis, TN, USA!!
We have a lot more back cushions now for the sofa, it’s very comfortable for us and easy to clean as the dogs do inevitably take over all soft cushion spaces like the sofa. They sleep in different places, sometimes the reading branch, sometimes their own beds on the floor, sometimes at the end of our bed too 😬 thanks for your kind words. All the best from Italy 🇮🇹
Now that's the life! Great vision and execution of that space. Good to see local people for employ. Did you start with an architect? Gosh I would love that.
Thank you! It’s always ongoing. We didn’t do any of the work with an architect we used a local geometra though who will draw up plans based on what you say, they are a type of engineer and architect in one and they work with the local council to get everything approved. It’s certainly a learning process but we’ve loved it.
Ebonie, I didn’t realise you were Australian until today’s narrated video (I want to say Melbourne, or maybe east coast somewhere? ☺️). I love what you’ve done with the place, you have a beautiful and respectful aesthetic. I’m from Melbourne, living in London now, and have been thinking about renovating a place in Europe. Have you ever thought about running (paid) sessions for people interested in understanding the process (and pitfalls) of negotiating the bureaucracy needed to be successful in Italy? I imagine a lot of people would find it really helpful. So pleased for you and your stunning home and lifestyle, you’re both an amazing inspiration 🙏🙌
Hi Loraine, yes I’m from QLD originally but spent most of my young adult life in Melbourne before moving to Paris so been all over the place. Thank you for your kind message about the house, so glad you like it. We definitely can do a purchasing property consultation with you over zoom if this is something you’d like to do. Shoot us an email if you’re interested and tell us bit more about what your looking for potentially and we can see if we can organize a time to chat :) Best Ebonie
The living room is just spectacular, both the original architecture and your artisanal furnishings. The way the carpet amplifies the terrazzo pattern is brilliance. The fresco in the bedroom is amazing and your restoration of it so sympathetic. The stone sink in the bathroom: perfection! I thought I recalled a sculpted table in the dining area? Did that change?
If I may, I'd love to give you some hopefully 😊good suggestions: give your backsplash a couple of hands of polymer sealant or that wall is going to be extremely dirty and mouldy in a very short time or better still (but more expensive) buy some leftover tiles in some construction place and tile the whole backsplash up. Same with the shower or Efflorescence will make an appearance. I'm curious about the ventilation pipe and chimney in the fireplace since it looks like it goes into the kitchen? Pronunciation in Italian is PE'R.gola, stress on the first syllable (as in British English). And last but most important, Kudos on a fantastic job!👍👍👍
Hello, thanks for the suggestions but the backsplash and bathroom are in tadelakt you would never touch that material with a polymer sealer since it’s a natural material and needs to breathe. It’s sealed with black olive oils soap, you should look it up it’s a fascinating process used for hundreds of years. 2 years later and we have never had any molds or dirt issues :) not sure what your asking regarding the chimney but yes it does go into the kitchen then out the roof. Thanks for following along 🙂
Kia Ora Ebonie and Martin! I enjoyed watching a couple of your videos. Are you both New Zealanders by chance? I am a Canadian Kiwi having lived remote in NZ (Great Barrier Island) for 15 years and tackled a very ambitious project also. I appreciate so much your tremendous efforts made to beautify your little niche in Italy. Well done - I commend you both! :-)
Very nice renovation, considering that you have done it by yourself. I thinks it's quire respectful with the original. My personal tase, I would add some color on the walls, like art, paintings. You will have time to do that. Good luck.
❤❤❤❤❤❤ GREAT job!!👏 Really well done. It's rare to see projects, where people really have such a feel and sensitivity for everything in it's whole. Chapeau! 🤠 I would LOVE to hear about your experiences with the lime plaster in the bathroom and kitchen (especially in the shower) No issues at all with any humidity getting through??
Thank you that’s very kind of you to say. We’ve found the lime plaster to be great actually. It’s super easy to keep clean and so far haven’t noticed any issues with humidity. Would definitely recommend:)
Absolutely stunning! Love the art work💕
Thank you 😊
the perfect balance between a house and a work of art, I love that you kept as much as possible of the original home
Such a nice thing to say! Thank you 😊
